Subject: Warhammer 40K (Not) Fellowship of the Ring
Here's a little project I have been working on for a couple of weeks. I was watching Fellowship of the Ring a few weeks ago, and had one of my random hobby-related thoughts...
"I wonder if I could make the whole gang of 9 using 40K models?"
Turns out yes, in a way!
Lore wise there is always some way to explain the team composition, with the Eldar being a lot easier to justify in current time 40K. Whatever mission they are on I will work out later, because directly mimicking LotR story might be a little on the nose, even though I have DEFINITELY done that with the names, because of course I have!
The names are all comprised of a name and a nickname/codename, blatantly ripping off elements of the characters from the books/films.
In no particular order then:
Full Team
Argano "Longstride"
Spoiler:
Primaris Librarian in Phobos Armour + Eliminator Sniper Bolt Rifle backpack and Head + awesome torch to light stuff and fend off bad guys
Aulando "Viridus"
Spoiler:
Just Illic Nightspear...with a couple of blades strapped to his back.
"Glowing" Grimles
Spoiler:
Forgeworld Necromunda Ammo Squat...with a GIANT WULFEN AXE!
Grundulf "Greybeard"
Spoiler:
Primaris Librarian + staff from...somewhere + goddamn Emperor's Sword, oh and the coolest of hats (there might be a decapitated Gandalf mini on my desk...)
"Captain" Voramere
Spoiler:
Primaris Captain + changed hands + lovely lovely shield to stop all them arrows, and trusty horn to let the others know something's up.
"Baggy" Freddo
Spoiler:
All the "Hobbits" are just metal Ratlings, so not at all kitbashed, because sourcing 4 of the plastic ones from Blackstone Fortress didn't sound fun. They are however painted in such a way to take cues from their film appearance.
"Clever" Samuel
Spoiler:
"Amesec" Murdoc
Spoiler:
"Pinched" Falcon
Spoiler:
Groups
Spoiler:
Orc Hunters
Best Buds
Thanks for reading my waffle if you did, or at least enjoyed the pictures. Had a lot of fun with this one, and stretched the bits boxes to the limit.
"Unimaginably ancient xenos artefact somewhere on the planet, hive fleet poised above our heads, hidden 'stealer broods making an early start....and now a bloody Chaos cult crawling out of the woodwork just in case we were bored. Welcome to my world, Ciaphas."
Inquisitor Amberley Vail, Ordo Xenos
"I will admit that some Primachs like Russ or Horus could have a chance against an unarmed 12 year old novice but, a full Battle Sister??!! One to one? In close combat? Perhaps three Primarchs fighting together... but just one Primarch?" da001
Ripping off pop culture or other IPs using Warhammer minis is my new favourite thing to do. So far we have these guys and my A-Team Orks. Working on something "marvelous" at the moment :-)
