Hey all,
So I'm looking to start a Chaos Knights army because I am a dirty heretic. My birthday just came and went and I have found myself in possession of a Knight Castellen kit and a Knight Despoiler kit. I went online and saw that there is in fact no Chaos Knight Tyrant kit, there is just a Knight Castellen or Knight Valiant... which is disappointing. There doesn't even appear to be a Tyrant upgrade sprue or even like the old school "chains and spikes" sprue with icons and such that would be perfect to just "Chaos" the Knight up.

Adding on to this is that my Castellen kit only has the Castellen weapons, not the Valiant's Conflagration Cannon nor the Harpoon. Also my other Knight kit, while sufficiently Chaos-y, has only a single set of weapons also. I want to get the most mileage out of these pricey kits and Ebay doesn't seem to be a real option, as most kits just have a single set of weapons, there isn't a thriving knights bitz sub-economy.

So how do I solve this problem? Kit bash homebrew weapons? Third party manufacturers of knock off parts? If so, who makes them? 3-D printed parts? What about Chaos upgrades to make my Tyrant actually something scary, as opposed to a slightly spikey imperial jackass?

Thanks a million!

GW wants you to buy two Knights and swap parts between them. The slightly cheaper option is to go looking for someone like Hoard O' Bits on Ebay who buys the boxes and sells sub-assemblies thereof.

As to spiky armour plating the only official parts for doing that are Forge World resin armour plates; a quick search has turned up some folks called Legio Models (https://legiomodels.com/upgrade-armour-kit/) who appear to be Russian and do a variety of alternate armour plates, but they're not cheap.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

Theres no easy way to do it really. I thought I was gonna beat the system myself, by getting the Apocalypse box for the Castellan, free Armigers (for the cost of the box), and then just get a Warden kit and an older Paladin kit and kitbash between them. Then I grabbed a Spellcrow Gatling cannon.

But then realized the gun barre for the Spellcrow cannon was supposed to go on the same gun mount as the Battle/Inferno cannon, so I then had to buy a gun mount online too.

Then I realized I didnt have the complete gun mount so had to do a third order just for bitz.

Then I wanted a second AA gun (and also a Missile Pod, but I havent gotten that yet) so another order.

Long story short. Get the Warden kits, or the Sir Hektur Rex/Preceptor kit with everything in it.

I spent more money trying to save money.

Yeah thanks for the replies.

In response to first, I also found the Legios website and was suprised that that was like the only one! The bitz selling on ebay is a mess due to the small amounts people are actually selling. Either way I am considering those Legios kits, I mean what's wrong with turning a $150 model into a $250 model?

Second reply, I feel that might be the problem, spending lots of money and effort to try and save money. Sadly doesn't fix the Tyrant problem though. Thanks for the thoughtful replies.

I've got Legio stuff on my Rampager. It's pretty sweet. Just takes a while to get here. Worth the money.

There are some shape ways people doing knight stuff. Again it's not cheap. If you've got any armies that can use rhino's or land Raiders the Chaos versions of those come with a meagre helping of spikes.

Take a look at what I've been painting and modelling: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/725222.page
