With Halloween coming up I was motivated to see if I could kitbash together a custom made demon prince from all the spare bits I have laying around.

Disclaimer: I will not finish this in time for Halloween. I'm just too slow a painter.

I started off with some left over Tyranid bits from venomthropes, carnifexes, and a swarm lord. After much dry fitting, cutting away and re-thinking I managed to successfully get a disturbingly creepy looking spider body together

Spoiler:

Once I had that together successfully I really paused for a while to think about what I was doing, and wanted to achieve. I realized I wanted it to look a little more chaosy feeling so I added some suitable embellishments which I'll smooth in with green stuff later in the build. I thought about a spider spinning web and then decided I needed something suitable horrifying for some spider-goo to come out of. I had some left over bits from the deathguard squad set and found a face that belonged to a back pack that looked like it would be something I could later embellish on and have spider-goo coming out of. I also cut and then added some chainmail along the back of the thorax as an additional chaos-like embellishment.

Spoiler:

A little skull hanging can be seen in this shot

Spoiler:

Next I added a bit of liquid greenstuff to fill in a few of the glaring spots, and began cutting away areas to dry-fit my torso that's going to be the demon prince's upper body and head. There's going to need to be some greenstuff work to get it all looking together smoothly.

Spoiler:

I have a Talos Pain Engine from the Dark Eldar that I'm integrating into this as the main body torso and head. I've also added a tentacle from the same kit to the back of the spider. In this shot you can see a retracted tentacle holding a skull, while the other tentacle is out and looking for something to hold on to. In this same shot you can see a tail component from the swarm lord set along with a couple of pieces from the talos set that look like antlers. I'm going to be cobbling the three pieces together to get a spider-like mouth on the front of the model.

Spoiler:

Here's a shot of the upper torso so far. I've added a nice swinging chain with a skull on it to give the model some feeling of motion once it's all together. You can't see in this shot, but I've also added a nurgle tri-lobe symbol to his left chest area

Spoiler:

I still haven't figured out what to do for the arms yet. I have some left over close combat pieces from the deathguard squad set I'm currently dry fitting to see how it looks.

I must say you're certainly succeeding so far at getting Tyranid and Eldar parts to feel Chaos-y!

This looks like it will be very cool. Great idea!

Alrighty. I've finished up most of the modelling details and have now got a 1st round of green stuff done.

The whole front half of the model here is left deliberately messy and open. This is the spot where I'm going to be attaching the torso later so I've left it pretty much as is with the plans to add some tentacles or fleshy growths holding the torso down to the abdomen. Not sure how I'm going to achieve that yet with the legs in the way of modelling, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it

Spoiler:

Rear shot where spider webbing is going to be coming out

Spoiler:

Here's an initial shot of my torso. You can see there some horns forming a ridge along the back. I really wasn't sure what to do with this. I had played around with the idea of modelling some grand crown of horns but ultimately wanted to accept the limits of my ability.

Spoiler:

Instead I decided to add a little more character to this model and used the ridge of horns as a kind of basket to hold a pile of skulls. This will eventually be covered over with a spider's web as a kind of bag of skulls of the back which I think will look really cool when finished

Spoiler:

Spoiler:

And here's a decent shot of the front of the torso. I've got some initial green stuff work on the left hand nightmare-chain thingy.

Another round of Green Stuff a little chaos embellishments added.

After this round of Green Stuff dries I need to prime and paint the two body parts seperate before I can assemble and add a few final embellishments

Spoiler:

Next shot will be primed and base coats, and some shading

Interesting models; curious to see how well they'll come together painted!

A Squeaky Waaagh!!

Camkhieri: "And another very cool thing, my phones predictive text actually gave me chicken as an option after typing robot, how cool is that."'

Meercat: "All eyes turned to the horizon and beheld, in lonely and menacing grandeur, the silhouette of a single Grot robot chicken; a portent of evil days to come."

Got some priming and base coating done. Thought I'd post an update. Also any opinions so far?

Here's a shot of the torso base coated with a little bit of work done on the horns and skulls

Spoiler:

This was zenithal primed, so the base coat itself is also dark-to-light. First time doing zenithal. I have. This is all pre-shading and details.

Spoiler:

The bulbous boil-thing with the tentacles coming out on the right shoulder here is going to become an eye. You can also see some of the shading done on the skulls so far. There's some highlights still to apply and recess shading. A good chunk of this detail is going to disappear however. There's going to be a spider-webbing covering the skulls, but it'll be important to get the details underneath.
Spoiler:

Here is the body that's base coated. The blending is still to be done to get a transition between the body and legs. I'm really torn about what to do for the leg armour plate shading. So you can see here I've done two paint schems and I'm not sure I'm happy with either. One scheme I've done in green shading from the edges to the middle with a cream-to-brown transition with the blade on the leg, and the opposite on the either leg: shaded from top to edge of the plate in the cream-to-brown, and then the green shading on the blade on the leg.
Spoiler:

I think I'm leaning towards keeping the green shading on the leg blades and the top-to-edge shading but maybe using a red-to-yellow shading. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Lastely, here's a rough dry-fit of the two halves together
