We all know how much a great looking table really adds to the game so I though this would be a great place to share, discuss, and otherwise critique terrain.

I am specifically looking at terrain that can be bought- complete or un-assembled, unpainted, finished etc... I already know lots of people go with DIY terrain but I am looking at products that are already available.

To start off I have a few manufacturers that I have seen their websites but have no experience with them so feedback would be great.

The unknowns-

.death ray designs-these guys have the dawn of war marine buildings for 28mm gameplay

https://deathraydesigns.com/product-category/terrain

.blueforge terrain-these guys have some complete boards and a stunning array of pieces much of it looks like wood or resin.

http://www.blueforgeterrain.com/store/c1/Featured_Products.html

-The website is no longer available, i am assuming they are no longer in business unless they have moved the site.

.warsenal-I've got some of their custom bases the terrain likes like laser cut wood

https://warsen.al/collections/terrain

.secret weapon miniatures
another site that has fantastic custom bases (I own some) with a few very nice terrain items

http://www.secretweaponminiatures.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=52

The known

.micro art studios-

https://shop.microartstudio.com/en/159-scenery

cannot say enough great things about these guys I love the custom bases but I also grabbed some of their terrain. they do laser cut but also they do hardfoam as well as resin and they have fantastic stuff for tau, elder, necrons, and chaos including buildings army specific defense walls etc....

.ESLO hobby

http://onlineshop.gelaendestuecke.de/index.php?cat=c4_News---Offers-.html

I have to admit I am addicted to these guys. a german company that does finished hand painted terrain. it is a bit spendy but the quality is worth it.

for US residents noble knight games keeps them in stock with fast shipping at affordable rates(usually within 3 days basic shipping anywhere in the US mainland)

https://www.nobleknight.com/Publisher/ESLO-Hobby

-For those of you who dabble in small scale like epic 4Ok, battletech or any other game in 6mm

.novus design studo has a limited line of buildings and ruins

https://www.novusdesign.net/6mm-Terrain-Scenics_c_11.html

.brigade models

http://www.brigademodels.co.uk/SmallScaleScenery/index.html

These guys have a bit of everything, naval, airfields, forts, desert, tech, midevil
there is even more items in the 6mm section as well. reasonably priced to boot.

.vanguard miniatures who supply large parts of the epic 40K line also work in cooperation with gregsters lab for some great 40k gothic style buildings

https://vanguardminiatures.co.uk/product-category/terrain/gregsters-lab-terrain/

I'll just give a quick review of the stuff I tend to use mostly:

4Ground
-Pre-painted MDF terrain.
-Most detailed MDF buildings you're likely to find, includes double-layered internal walls, etc.
-Their sci-fi ranges are currently a bit limited, but they're about to launch a dedicated 40K line.
-Expensive and can be difficult/time consuming to build. The latest 40K stuff is way too expensive, in my opinion.

Example:

Micro-Arts Studios
-Variety of materials, including (as shown above), a number of hard pressed foam terrain pieces.
-These are great for quick and easy table set-up.
-Foam will be prone to damage over time depending on what you buy.
-Not particularly cheap, and tough to find in the US

Example of some "crate heaps" I painted recently:
Spoiler:

TT Combat
-This is probably the winner for me at the moment.
-Well designed and built MDF terrain.
-Extremely reasonable prices
-Built for gaming (easy to disassemble, and easy for model placement
-Free shipping to the US when over 100 pounds sterling is ordered (making it mega-cheap compared to almost any other company)
-Heaps of lines from 10mm to 40K gothic style, to Infinity, to Star Wars Legion, etc.
-Their newer stuff is better than their old stuff, so you can get a mixed bag if you order the older kits (which are far simpler, less well designed)
-Buildings tend to be very large for what you pay. Lots of table coverage.

Example of several tables which are 90% TT Combat MDF terrain:
Spoiler:

Spoiler:

Spoiler:

Spoiler:

Also pictured in several of the tables are modular (sectional) plastic bridges from Pegasus Hobbies, a company that is maybe going out of business or being restructured/bought out? They produce some nice plastic kits that are 40K thematic.

Only thing I can say about the above posts, sadly is that I would not trust Noble Knight Games with your money. While they're a large store and do a ton of business I've found that they consistently increase the cost of foreign products tremendously, advertising their MSRP as 25-40% more than it actually is, so they can discount it on eBay and still charge you more than the normal price. For this reason alone I will not support them, so buyer beware.

For example, the Victorian Police Station kit is currently available for $100.60 directly from 4Ground Publishing. Noble Knight Games's eBay listing states the MSRP is $176.00 and are selling it for $146.95

I simply cannot support any company who does stuff like that. It's a personal beef, but I think people should be aware there's some nonsense going on with Noble Knight Games.

I have actually found them (noble knight) to be very situational. some things are cheaper or more expensive than elsewhere. I also buy alot of general gaming items from miniature market. sometimes they have better prices. the big things about both companies is the ability to get things that are hard to find since the both rebuy out of print items as well as bits/single items sales(collectable game items like axis and allies) .

Sure, and there's nothing illegal about what Noble Knight is doing, but I think it shows a severe lack of character or respect for their consumers - so they do not get a dime from me.

Hey there, I like the cut of your jib...great idea for a forum thread topic.

I'm surprised Blacksite Studio hasn't been mentioned yet. They are based out of Texas here in the U.S. and do high quality, pre-painted, laser cut MDF terrain kits, some 3D printed, pre-painted scatter, and occasionally have custom built and fully detailed/painted terrain sets they sell in limited numbers.

Their Haven range is great for Post Apoc games like This is not a Test, Fallout: Wasteland Warfare, and Walking Dead, etc...The A.R.K. is a really cool modular fallout shelter/bunker complex perfect for Fallout games inside the vault!

Their Industria, Commercia, and Suburbia lines are great for anything modern, like Last Days: Zombie Apocalypse, or Spectre. Midnight City takes it more downtown for games like Batman, DC, and Marvel: Crisis Protocol

Spoiler:

Spoiler:

Their Arklight Metro set was made with Marvel: Crisis Protocol in mind, but could work well for Fallout, or any modern setting in need of a Subway station

They've also got some Warzone Europe stuff for Bolt Action or any other 28mm WWII themed games, and are starting to release 15mm versions of some of the kits that would be perfect for Flames of War...

Theyve got Sci-fi stuff that fits Necromunda type games, Fantasy and Medieval themed stuff for games like Burrows & Badgers, Rangers of Shadow Deep, and the upcoming Skyrim game from Modiphius. There are even middle-eastern, and fuedal Japan themed terrain options as well...

A little something different-

Since i was playing a 1:32 scale WWII game i broke out a bunch of the stores custom made "saving private ryan" terrain (there is a custom table for it but it is a pain to move).

I also remembered i had a bunch of old rubber JR miniatures roads so i made a city table.

I have not posted here in a bit but given we are in another lockdown for at least a few more weeks i have gotten to work putting together some terrain for my manufactorum themed map pictured previously.

This time around i have gone heavy in the 3d printed direction with quite a few nice items from "canvastemple"s ebay store

a 3 pack of storage tanks, a bunker, and a landing pad

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Command-Bunker-from-War-Scenery-Suitable-for-25-32mm-Science-Fiction-Wargaming/153727021700?hash=item23cad83284:g:C9AAAOSw4tVdz~yx

I thought it was only one, but i ended up with a 3 pack of the hard foam barracks from micro art studio via nobleknights online store-

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Micro-Art-Terrain-28mm-Barracks-Mark-2-New-/133616967065?hash=item1f1c311d99

I also grabbed this set of sector 0012 industrial buildings

https://www.ebay.com/itm/114362456730

Also a set of engineering scatter terrain from theprintpire

This gothic train set is also on my list of possible things to add later-
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Gothic-Train-Set-AKA-The-Heresy-Train-28mm-Wargame-Terrain-Warhammer-40K/254704849330?hash=item3b4d9791b2:g:9-gAAOSwVXRdNNmO

I look forward to getting it all painted up and set up on the table, pictures will be coming when i get to that point of course.

Shouldn't terrain have had it's own forum long ago?

Anyway, here's a guide to making a nice piece of necron terrain cheap. The plans call for cardboard but i'm sure foamcore will work. It's a star wars prop from what may be the worst star wars movie to date but it still looks great as a necron terrain or, scaled up, a centerpiece.

https://www.instructables.com/DIY-Starwars-Sith-Wayfinder/

I guess it could work with a few other races, eldar, tau, maybe even imperial. But it's clearly necron.|

You're welcome.

There are actually quite a few stores already out there that do terrain for necrons, tau, nids and eldar in various mediums from HDF, hard foam, and resin for reasonable prices.

Much of my tau terrain is from micro art studio(they also have nid, chaos, eldar and necron peices)

https://shop.microartstudio.com/en/159-tabletop-scenery

This ebay store i found recently has some incredible 3d printed terrain sets(and single pieces) for eldar, dark eldar, tau, chaos, necron and imperial in both epic and 28mm scale.

A little update for those of you with 3d printers

War scenery has a nice collection of 40K gothic/space marine style terrain straight out of dawn of war.

As well as a large collection of star wars legion based terrain.

If you do not have a printer, there are several 3rd party print services under contract to make their products.

I go through canvas temple, and they take requests for items from their partners if the item(s) isn't in their catalog.

You mentioned painting up the Heresy Train a bit earlier; how detailed is the model, and does it have any obnoxious mold lines or 3D print marks? That thing has been my white whale for a year or so, but since I'm not working on an Imperial board, I have no reason to buy it yet.

The only thing i had an issue with is putting on the wheels. they are not part of the print of the cars and there is no guide points to make sure it is lined up straight. my print was pretty average for a high-speed plastic printer. there are no mold lines obviously, but you do see the normal layering lines as one would get with a printer. No complaints from me. i am loving the 3d printing revolution. both for options and price.
