Over the last year, what factions have you been involved with for collecting, painting and/or playing for 40K? Choose all options that apply. Sorry if I missed any particular faction, there's a lot (added Imperial Fists to the bottom, missed them the the first go-around). If you're playing a successor Marine chapter, just choose the parent chapter.

Also, feel free to vent about how your favorite faction is failing to get any love, even if you're still collecting it...

I've been trying to play a vehicle and/or infantry heavy chaos space marines for the past year. After dipping into loyalists for a bit, and wondering if I should give up on chaos, I decided (against my better judgement) that I should just embrace the bitterness and serve the chaos gods with sheer stubborness. Surely, things can only get bettet.

Imperial Knights - built to work with the Ad Mech, but I guess you could count them separate.
Orks - well, I've built/painted some more. Maybe they'll hit the table in 2020. Maybe not.

honestly he proably should have just rolled all space marines into one for the purpose of the survey. I mean... what do I vote for for my Storm Crows. given they're an Ultramarines sucessor. Ultramarines or "other"?

Poll seems flawed to me for having all CSM Legions and SM subfactions but not subfactions from other Codizes. What's the difference between Nightlords, The Purge, Goffs, Khorne Daemons and Wych Cults? If anything the two latter ones' are more independant subfactions than most CSM Legions ruleswize.

Literally just expanding my Craftworlds army, and dabbling in some Drukhari but that's only a passive interest.

Main project at the minute is my Exodites force which is becoming expensive fast.

I am also working my way through Blackstone Fortress so add those in too.

Marines, both loyalist and traitor, DO have a lot more subfaction content right now. ignoring 1K sons, Death Guard, Blood angels etc (all of which have their own codex and thus clearly should have their own listing) Loyalist Marines and Chaos Marines have a multitude of warlord traits, relics and stratigiums by subfaction. whereas other codices, at least for now, have 1 trait, one relic and one strat per subfaction. thus Marine subfactions right now have a much clearer diffrential.

that said I'd be all fine dividing via codex myself. but I can see the OP's logic.

I was trying to go down the line of Codexes & Psychic Awakening support, but the split isn’t as neat as I would have liked, so I had to compromise.

I'm building my Marines back up after discovering a cache of formerly broken miniatures. I picked up Shadowspear, so I guess I'll be using some of those cool chaos units once I figure out which chapter tactic benefits me the most for weilding a bunch of hellbrutes/venomcrawlers in CC.

Sisters of Battle: I've been playing a lot of Sisters of Battle this year, and purchased a lot of the old models to get the ones I wanted before they went out of stock forever and make sure all my sections match model types. They're my main competitive army, but they'll be out of action for a while once the set drops as I need to re-base all of them to 32's and decorate them to be tournament-ready and that's going to be hard and time-consuming.

Imperial Guard: Are my oldest army, I rarely buy new models for them. I did actually buy one new thing for them this year [a section of Mortars], and I re-painted one of my old Leman Russ Demolisher tanks. I will probably be maining IG in 2020 while my Sisters get re-based and re-readied for action.

Space Wolves: Are my third army, and most neglected overall. I received them from a friend who was leaving the hobby. I've shown them more love than every before this year, buying a Predator and the Shadowspear set, and since I've got my eye on getting the Executioner, Impulsor, and Vindicators when I'm not buying new SoB units, they're looking at having an even better next year.

Adeptus Custodes: I bought into them when they first came out in Prospero and the Talons of the Emperor. I really need to get another box of infantry, because that which I own isn't configured for the current means by which they are taken. I haven't bought anything for them this year, but I do have a single Dawneagle Captain to finish painting and a number of Sisters of Silence who will probably never get done since they were left out of the codex.

Grey Knights: Are my newest army, I've been building them up to 1000 points over the course of the autumn and winter. I don't know where I'm going with them after that, maybe building some aircraft, dreadnoughts, and maybe more Paladins. Field experience will tell me what I need, hopefully.

I started 40k with Tau, IG came next and kept growing to be my main crusading force; I got some orks, then drukhari for them to fight; then some IK and deathwatch for reinforcements. I am starting a renegades and heretics soup.

I find it's harder and harder to summon up any enthusiasm at all for the whole exercise; I seem to be wildly at odds with GW's design team over what a game ought to be. I've gotten rid of a lot of armies but am still holding onto my Inquisition, Mechanicum, and Alpha Legion for now.
