Hello all!

Brand new to AoS and just looking for a little feedback on my first Beasts of Chaos list.
I know Bullgors aren't the most competitive option but I think the models are awesome and the 20 man Gor screen should keep them safe until I can counter charge with them.

I've also read a bit about the army and have seen that Tzaangor Enlightened on Disks are good but I really want to keep away from the Tzeentch aesthetic.

Any feedback would be awesome!

You look to have the right idea, though I would combine those ungor raider units into two units of 30, as they gain a bonus for being a larger unit size.

End of the day it will all hinge on how competitive your local meta is. A more casual meta you won't see any issues, whereas a competitive meta can get pretty bad.

Ah this is what I get for using Battlescribe lol, those two Ungor units are 30 strong, I'll edit the first post so it's clearer.

Can Beasts hold up to some competitive lists by playing the mission or will they just get swept?

They can hold their own quite well short of top-tier stuff.

I'd up the quantity on at least one of the Bestigor units. Outside of Enlightened, I always felt they were the biggest beat stick in BoC. They die/get battleshocked fairly quickly, so its better to have more.

Was never a fan of 6 strong Bullgors. Very rarely would you get all of them to attack at once, as their base size and lack of 2+ inch reach attacks(absolutely criminal imo) really limits their damage output. They get in their own way is probably the best way to put it. I liked them in small units with shields as they get much tankier but still with enough bite that most small objective grabbing chaff will regret being in combat with them. If you're dead set on taking 6, perhaps split them into 2 units of 3.

BoC can put a dent in nearly everything, but they are a middle of the road Battletome.

Dropping the Shaggoth gives me an Ungor squad to sacrifice at the Headstone and the points to bump a Bestigor squad to 20.

I'll try the squad of 6 Bulls (it also keeps the list 3 drops). I guess I'm more worried that someone activates and kills a squad of 3 before they do anything. The squad of 6 is more ablative wounds than anything? I'll have to test but you may very well be right, 50mm base is pretty big for a 1 inch range...

I would not drop the shaggoth--that is one of the stronger units in the battletome and provides some very good support for your list.

Hmm, I do like him a lot as well. Especially being able to hit himself with the mortal wounds for sacrifice then heal them back.

With that in mind, going from the original list in the first post, dropping 3 of the Bullgors lets me bump a squad of 10 Bestigors up to 20 but now I have 40 points left over.

Is Ravening Direflock worth taking on top of the Wildfire Taurus spell or should I stay at 1960pts to get a triumph more often than not?

Getting back into AoS and working on building up my BoC. How do you guys feel about Gors now that they're 7ppm? I think with the reduction 10 man units of them with shields might be decent at grabbing objectives while the bestigors do the killing.

Right now the infantry setup I'm looking at is

3x 10 man Bestigors
3x 10 man Gors
2x 30 man Ungor Raiders

I'm having my first game at 1000 points on Wednesday, trying out 20 Bestigors, 20 Gors, and 20 Raiders. I'll check back in here afterwards!

The biggest problem with gors compared to ungors is not immediately obvious -- the base size. 32mm is a big downgrade from 25mm, you aren't able to get nearly as many models within melee range. Gors aren't bad, but that base size really hurts them.

So had my 2 learning games yesterday and can confirm with the rest of the internet that raiders are amazing haha. Gors were definitely underwhelming, bulls were completely random in their effectiveness, gnarlblade beastlord was awesome too.

The other thing was 10 man bestigor squads being pretty underwhelming to be honest. I was facing ogors so most of the time they were hitting on 4s vs smaller units, but they are definitely glass cannons, if they were mispositioned they were immediately punished and wiped out easily.

Thinking about all of this I think moving into 2k points I'll aim for something like this:

Depraved Drove [1,380pts]: Depraved Drove

. Beastlord: General, Mutating Gnarlblade, Unravelling Aura

. Bestigors: 20 Bestigors, Banner bearers, Brayhorns

. Ungor Raiders: 20 Ungor Raiders, Banner bearers, Brayhorns

. Ungors: 10 Ungors, Banner bearers, Brayhorns, Ungor Blade

Tzaangor Enlightened on Discs of Tzeentch [320pts]: 6 Tzaangor Enlightened on Discs of Tzeentch

+ Allegiance +
. Beasts of Chaos: Gavespawn

+ Game Options +

++ Total: [1,990pts] ++

The Depraved Drove can help with rerolling charges within 12 of an enemy relic, and the allied Daemon Prince can really help dictate charges with his 18 inch half run and charge command bubble letting me get the charges I want and stopping counter charges if I miss.

What do you guys think?
