Subject: Rampart - Stylish and modular plastic terrain with Tank stretch goal!(Kickstarter)
Right so this is the second time Archon (who are the folk who were behind Prodos) are coming to KS with this, they've previously delivered most of the Cathedral theme and are starting delivery of the Aztec stuff
this is their legacy offering and they say they can delivery this within a month of the end of the KS
and new this time round is the factory stuff which is going to take longer
Haasbioroid wrote: I was coming to post about this! I'm so excited. For 100 bucks that is a ridiculous amount of stuff!!
Don't forget to add the $30 shipping to that (in the PM)
I got my 2 Kazumi sets last Friday. Overall I'm happy with what I got. It is HIPS but it's a bit softer than GW type HIPS for terrain it holds the detail well so no complaints there. The sets contents weren't quite as listed as they rejigged the tools after the KS but for anything lost I gained elsewhere so happy enough plus as the tools are done now what they list in this KS for legacy stuff is what you get. The pegs are hit and miss some too lose some too tight but I perma glued everything anyway. Not sure how the magnet versions would hold up. I did have to trim here and here to make some panels fit or sit flush. It would have been nice to get half sized (square panels) for shorter sides or turns but some panels can be cut in half to make that work.
The floors are the biggest let down for me they just don't look or work well I can see what they tried to do but I don't feel it works. I've made my own floors with 5mm Foam PVC. The floors will be cut up for rubble scatter and what not.
Out of the 2 sets an managed to make 3 2 storey part ruined buildings, a 3 tiered half Ziggurat (back is exposed for access) and 5 smaller ruins.
I'd get a another set but $23 on a $49 pledge just puts it outside what I'd pay for a single set.
Delivery was by UPS if you're wondering about the cost.
All is not forgiven for AvP but this for me was good start.

Sure apologies for the poor lighting best I can do for now on my phone. The other buildings need to be glued together so I've just photographed the finished ones.
Foam PVC is soft enough to score lines and patterns into and carves up well for damage. Building 3 shows where I split a panel on the upper floor and hid it with columns

Many thanks, that's the one i'm most interested in so it's good to see what somebody can make
(and useful to know the floor sections might well need to be discounted.... BoW ended up using card as floors with their cathedral stuff too, but I think that's as the floors hadn't been finished by the time it was done)

I followed the BoW build yes the floors weren't done but they'd never have covered the area needed with Rampart floors anyway as the buildings are so big that needed a different approach.
I felt the overhang of the floors was fine for Kazumi and minimised cutting and fitting but the Cathedral would need more work to make a custom floor fit.
I got the Kazumi temple today, I agree with DaveC. Really nice stuff, but the floors are a bit off mechanically and even if you got enough of them, the consoles that hold them are just visually jarring.
I will happily back for the new theme.

OK, this is tempting, but I'd like to clear up a couple of things:
1. There's no way to get a mix of regular and "solidified" sets it seems like? You either get three or one or three of the other.
2. The shipping table thing - is the "+13" thing on the top row the "2nd shipment at a flat cost" for stretch goals/the new theme? Or are you paying shipping+13 for the January delivery only, and you have to pay a second fee when the wave 2 stuff is ready?
3. How does this match up with the modern GW terrain kits? I'm not expecting a seamless match obviously, but are they roughly the correct height, thickness etc that you could use both as part of the same structure?

300mm wide at the base by 210mm tall by 210mm deep
For comparison the panels are 68mm high (including the floor/roof I made) versus 74mm for Warcry terrain and 130mm wide including 2 columns either end versus 110mm for warcry terrain. They are are a good fit as alternate terrain for Warcry.

My other bits arrived the other day so I started going to work on putting it all together.
I'd say the 50 dollar set is plenty for a Kill Team or WarCry board. The 100 dollars or up would be overkill for a board that size, but for a larger game it would be great.
I'm digging the Kazumi motif. Outside of 3D printed stuff I can't think of much else available for jungle temple type scenery.
Extra figure models are always a nice bonus as well.
Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!
many extra bits added on free (1 set per pledge NOT 1 per core set) for the 1st vs the electrohead statue won, the second the Olmec head and the third the portal (we don't get the loser)
and some add ons

Yeah I think I'll get a set of Cobalt and an gakton of stretch goal sprues. Really missed the option to buy extras of stretch goals in the last campaign.

The wall topper add on (5 for $5) plus the various Kazumi themed stretch goals might be enough for me to justify the $23 shipping for another set but I'd have to park what I've been working on until June (like I don't have a load of other things to work on!) in for $1 and I'll decide in the PM.

So, it looks like from the Reaper forum that this is kinda shaky on delivery and whatnot. Is it worth buying for the quality, even if it takes a while to show up?

I have no clue what those guys are on about. Projected delivery was May, I got wave 1 in June or July which Reaper itself can only dream of doing. Wave 2 delivered a few weeks ago. Communication was top notch, we got constant updates with pictures of molds being tooled and fresh sprues being cast. Archon has skeletons in the closet for sure, but Rampart is not one of them.

Okay. Follow-up question: Is the Kickstarter the only way to get the goods, or is it also for sale outside of Kickstarts? I couldn't find that info anywhere.

It depends what you went in for I just got Kazumi. There was no mention that I can recall that this theme would be done second meaning that it wasn't shipped until November on a May delivery estimate but 6 months on a KS isn't all that bad and the Cathedral theme shipped with far less delay.
They bought new machines and had teething problems, they made mistakes and corrected them as best they could, a few tools changed when they actually knew what they could make. They did make updates about these issues. 2 themes are already done and they should be able to get the Cobalt theme and the stretch goal sprues done with a 6 month turn around now they have more experience. The only potential issue would be if their Dungeons and Lasers KS runs late that would have a knock on effect here as they will be using the same machines for both - I didn't back that one so I don't know how its going.
Quality is good see my post above for my thoughts only issue I have is with the floors but I worked around that.
I'd definitely get more I'm just trying to justify the shipping cost for another set.

My Kazumi pledge came in a week or so ago. While that set got pushed back it was communicated to us early on enough that at least we knew what to expect.
I'm still undecided if I just want to go ahead and glue the pegs in. They don't fit as snug as I would like, but at least having them set in the main walls would definitely give it a bit more stability.
Personally I really enjoyed all the scatter terrain that's included. Wasn't too impressed with the floor/ceiling clipping system, but it is what it is. I'd suggest getting a few extra stairs as you don't really get any.
I've backed just about every non- Aliens vs Predator Archon/ LOAD/ Prodos campaign at this point and I've gotten everything I paid for. I'd had some errors on my Empires of Man models and they took care of those.

Also look at their previous Rampart customer comments. I'm not seeing many complaints.
Archon has a dungeon terrain KS whose PM will open in January.
I'm in no hurry to buy terrain and mebbe Archon will have additional KS with more and better interlocking terrain in future KS.
48 hour emails just went out so I re-checked what was on offer and ended up backing at the $149 level again. Looks like 3 sets of Cobalt will be joining my 1 Citadel and 2 Kazumi. Plus somewhere between 5 and 10 sets of stretch goals. The value there is insane.
