I'm sat on my dad's old collection of ww2 6mm stuff, there's a large british mid war force and late war german and soviet forces, and quite a lot of terrain. I want to paint it and start using it all but the rules he has with them look rather in depth and extensive, and I can't be arsed to learn it all when I'll probably not use it very often. Right now I'm thinking of just making my own simple ruleset, which I don't really want to do. It's pretty hard to find answers on google.

Then comes along the frakking Spinosaurus who kills the T-rex, and the movie says "LOVE THIS NOW! HE IS BETTER" But...in your heart, you love the T-rex, who shouldn't have lost to no stupid Spinosaurus. So you hate the movie. And refuse to love the Spinosaurus because it is a hamfisted attempt at taking what you loved, making it TREX +++ and trying to sell you it.

You could always use Flames of War rules.

I like Blitzkrieg Commander. Kind of Warmaster for WW2:

Maybe use a system akin to Memoir 44? Order yourself a hex mat and come up with some simple rules yourself? Skip the full wargaming approach.

Our group is partial to Battlegroup. It's intended for 15mm-20mm models, but can be played with 6mm without any changes.

Yep, Battlegroup would work fine at smaller scales too (since the ranges are often shrunk for wargaming tables anyway).

You want super simple and fun

forces of valor -battle tactics-yes the toy company.

they came out with a super simple (as in a total of 6 pages of rules including the expanded rules) color coded D6 battle system. with the data cards they have released you can pretty well extrapolate any vehicle in WWII or modern. infantry wise there are only 2 troop types-allied squads/axis squads and officer options.

the system was originally made for 1/32 and 1/72 scale but it can easily be scaled down for 6mm.

Pm me for the PDFs if you cant find the official free downloads

I'm quite familiar with memoir '44 (school champion of the strategy/boardgames club annual tournament 2 years running, no need to give applause) And had thought about it. A while ago I came up with a rework of command and colours that i quite liked, might rework the rework for ww2.

It's more or less all the same system by Richard Borg(?) right? Memoir/Command Colours/Battle Lore/Great War, etc.

I would only lean that way because you mentioned simplicity. There are obviously great wargame options there, but sometimes a hex-based simple game is what the doctor ordered.

Great D-Day batrep of "Rommel" system in action. They also have a review of the rules and ranked as one of the highest scores of any wargames rulesets.. 6mm. Plus these guys are what historic wargame batreps should be. They have set the bar for all of us to achieve.
