The description of the armament for the Chaos Warriors Regiment makes me think that I can select the weapons for each model individually and so I could have something like a 10 man unit with 5 sword/shield and 5 halberd/shield. Thoughts? Clarifications?

From a tactics perspective the halberd has a 2" range but is -1 to hit compared to the sword. So it seems like a good idea to have ta front row of guys weild swords and a back row of guys weild halberds for the pile-in.

According to the scroll, yes, you can. The Chaos Knight and Varanguard scrolls are the same (and there are others as well), allowing you to mix and match. Seems purposefully done that way. These are supposed to be elite warriors; they utilize the weapons that work best for them.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Thank you. That's how I read it but I wanted clarification as I'm just getting into AoS. Last I played was 6th edition Fantasy / 3rd edition 40k so I'm rusty

Its ambiguous at best. I'd wait for the FAQ

How is it ambiguous? Previous books specified “unit is armed with this or armed with that”. These units say “each [model] is armed with this or this”. Law of English combined with how they’ve done every other book (and already allow weapon mixing in units such as stormcast hammer/thundermace) means this stands unless they rewrite the scroll. I wouldn’t worry about an FAQ changing it unless people get extremely pissed.

FWIW - GW's Warscroll Builder seems to think the options are unit-wide (but that could just be a site restriction).

The wording is the same as the Tzaangor scroll so I’d be inclined to say you can mix them up.
However, it’s always possible a faq down the road may prevent it.
If you can, hold fire for a couple of weeks until it drops then have a look.
