So people keep saying "Warhammer is a beer and pretzels game" along with other such similar comments. Some even suggest it of other game systems - which makes me think Who out there DOES drink and game?!

Yes, I drink sometimes while playing. I just keep the can/bottle/glass away from the table!

A sound policy. I enforced this in my Command Post - no drinks on the Bird Table!

I rarely ever drink, and won't game while drinking or with people if they're going to get drunk. An occasional beer or two? Cool. But having seen people trip into tables and drop trays of miniatures while drinking too much...you're not coming near my table/miniatures if you're staggering.

Being drunk and falling over oneself is for children.

They’ve got a beer cart at Adepticon, seems like somebody’s drinking there.

Drinking and wargaming is like drinking and playing darts, or drinking and playing cards. If you think adding drinking means it’s not serious, or permissible to be drunk, you’re going to get educated.

I don't mind having a beer or two while gaming but I don't want to get drunk. But most of the time I don't drink beer, but a cup of tea. Not gonna drink anything stronger than beer though for sure.

Pretzels? Those weird dried up miniature ones? Yuck.

I usually don't eat while gaming. Gonna get crumbs or grease on my little dudes. Have something before or after the game!

I don't drink, alcohol is basically a poison.

But I can understand why people feel they need it to cope with life.

Alcohol IS poison.
The only drug that I know of that DIRECTLY kills brain cells, well, all cells really...
But sure.

I used to drink with a friend and play chess in the park.
Lots of beers, whiskey, coffee, pepsi, water you name it...

Drugs and alcohol do not make these sorts of games easier.
In fact, to play at a level with a buddy, trading shots or beers or whatever, can become a game of its own...

By the way, I answered "wines" because, well, if not in the GW then wine is where I am at when I take the time to even look at a model... work, see, work gets in the way and then usually a cocktail ends up in order...

At least in my opinion, 40k and Age of Sigmar are really about 5x the complexity of other games that are considered "beer and pretzels" games.

Sure, you can be pretty casual when you play either of them with good friends, but that doesn't make them the same style of games.

Back on topic, I'm like HBMC. Soda and snacks for me. I'm not like many people I know that have to drink during anything they might do - I can separate the two pasttimes. At the very least I might have ONE drink during a game with dad, if he's trying to get me to taste something new.

If that happens then either that stuff is nuclear or you are standing way too close.

Well, I guess it depends on the ventilation situation. When it has happened to me in the past was in Ireland, in rooms without air conditioning with the windows closed to keep out the draught.

Yes because everyone knows wargamers needs medical pot to deal with the crippeling depression and agony caused by the game. But I suppose it boils down to ones tolerance for drugs and such, witch is fine as long as its not forced upon folks

You go outside to smoke, same as with cigarettes.

Most North American municipalities do in fact make it an offence to smoke or vape inside a commercial premise, or even near one.

Toronto has 9m exclusion zones outside most buildings that you can't smoke inside of. You basically have to stand in the middle of Front Street to smoke lawfully these days.

Yes. No. maybe.

In my head it's a beer & pretzels approach. I don't like pretzels but many alternatives are available. In store, water maybe. At home, usually tea. At WHW a beer after the game.

I like winning but never been interested in tournaments.

If you substitute "beer and pretzels" with "good company and an entertaining game" then I'm there.

I will sometimes drink. Sometimes not. Part of it depends on my mood, where we're playing (usually my house, but occasionally elsewhere), and sometimes what game I'm playing. Star Fleet Battles? Coffee/tea/water thanks. Frostgrave? Screw it let's drink because this game is so horribly swingy and unbalanced anyway! Others totally depends on the mood and company.

Last year's "Drinxodus" at Adepticon (Wild West Exodus special event after the tourney that was just us idiots in the community) was a blast, though, and I polished off half a fifth of rum on that one alone. A) Because it was Adepticon, B) because the scenario gave you extra things each time you took a shot.

I don’t get drunk, but I do play games and drink. I don’t get drunk because I only drink craft beer and I introduce myself as a beer snob. I drink it like any other drink; because I like the taste, and I drink it only once in a while and stop at 1. I got drunk in college. Then I grew up about it. However, I do get worried about spilled drinks and minis. No thanks. If it isn’t kept on a separate table, then forget it.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

The FLGS has beer available, but I get a can/bottle less often than would I like when playing or painting there. I generally start playing around 1:00 pm which just feels too early and by the time I think it is late enough, it is too close to when I am going to leave and drive home. I don't hold my alcohol like I used to [could]. So even a single beer gives me more than a buzz sometimes. If I wasn't driving, I probably get have a couple more often.

Honestly, after drinking and watching the mandalorian I'm reconsidering my stance on not drinking socially. The little pedant in the back of my head shuts up half a can in and I can enjoy the big stupid show for what it is. Thinking of applying that to the big stupid game too.

The cakes at Bugmans bar are amazing, and they have a combo deal if purchased with a coffee so it tends to be a coffee and cake game for me. Works out about the same as a pint of beer. Sometimes I go for a dandylion and burdock soda with chorizo crisps if i want a savoury snack.

Very rarely I'll have a pint of ale, and Bugmans ales are delightful local brews, but drinking alcohol tends to seriously upset my stomach these days so it's never more than a pint or two. I don't tend to snack with the beer though, despite availability of pretzles.

Thats my warhammer world experience for warhammer drink/snacks.
