I've been thinking about ways to tackle Bonereapers recently, and one very useful tool that armies sometimes have is abilities that allow you to kill a specific model in an enemy unit. Killing the Mortek Guard leader stops them being able to reroll saves, etc. It's useful against other armies of course, taking out the champion/musician/standard bearer.

I thought it would be useful for others to create a list arranged by army of all such abilities.

So, what abilities do armies you play have that can do this?

As we get replies, I'll add them to this post.

Typically Bone Reapers just revive anything that is finally killed.

But in all of my armies, I have a single model who can crunch a model of my choice in a unit, and that’s my brotastic Dankhold Troggboss, Moglog Dankfoot.

So I guess, technically, Gloomspite Gitz get 2 units, as the Dankhold Troggoth and the Troggboss are seperate unit entries.

Gargants can also do this for gloomspite.

Nighthaunt have the Slitter artefact. Start of combat, choose an enemy model within 1". Roll a dice, and if its greater than the wounds of the chosen model, that model is slain.

Of course, the range will be very easy for the Bonereaper player to screen against if they know about the ability.

While the Hekatos may (will likely) be brought back there is still value in killing him if it is going to prevent the 6+ fnp and save-reroll just for your turn. Done right it could mean the unit is heavily damaged or even wiped out when it otherwise would not have been. Just don't bother if they are doing a harvester bubble because then it will come back immediately.

To add to the list, Morathi has a pick-out-a-model ability. Skaven Skryre technically have an option in the Brass Orb but realistically it doesn't work that way.

Consider; Games Workshop rules not so much games but as toolboxes for players to craft an experience from, and open/narrative/matched play just examples of how things can be put together.

Bonereapers have one of the best in their catapult. Add it to the long list of ways they force you into building/playing.

Theres nothing in Legions of Nagash is there?

The whole thing started with me trying to find viable ways for Legions to combat a somewhat optimised Bonereapers list. With no real shooting to remove characters and Harvesters it looks like an extremely tough matchup...

Unfortunately you will need to hope the Bonereaper player makes mistakes, because if he does everything right there is no way for LoN to win barring crazy dice.

This is kind of true for most factions I’ve found so far fighting Ossiarchs. They’re probably the most broken faction GW has ever produced for Sigmar.

Oh yeah, lol. I always forget about them because they’re a profile at the back of the book I don’t think I’ve looked at since I first got the book.

Shooting/Mortal spam/Fight before reroll saves goes up seem to be their only concern.

Entire factions are in tough against them for sure.

Yeah, this is what I feared but suspected.

I ran some simple math on a horde of Chainrasps against Mortek Guard. 40 models, 120 attacks with the command ability. Assume for this example to get the best case that they're all in range, but they probably wont be in practice. Hitting on 4s reroll 1s, wounding on 3s rerolling 1s, due to leader auras. That turns into 54 saves on average that the Bonereaper player needs to make, seems decent.

With a 3+ and reroll, that becomes just 6 wounds. Then the Harvester brings half of those back (and the rest come back too before next turn with close to zero effort).

It does seem pretty ridiculous.

It’s a stupidly tough match up.
Need to kill off the characters and harvesters as soon as possible.
Even then they are still insanely durable.
