There's been some great work on the new plastic Sororitas models lately... I feel like the Sisters community here on Dakka tripled overnight and everyone is showing off great stuff. A bunch of us got sidetracked in the Tactica sharing our paint schemes, and every new sprue that surfaces gets analyzed in the News & Rumors forum... but news threads die off and tactics threads aren't for hobbying, sooo....

How about a standing thread where we can get into the weeds on what's on each sprue, how to maximize the value of each box, which bits swap easily onto which models, where to find good third-party options, don't-screw-this-up-the-same-way-I-did admonitions, and so on? If so, sound off with what you're up to, buying strategies, lessons learned, feedback requests, and so on. If there's anything worth compiling here (sprues? links? paint scheme gallery?), let me know and I'll try to keep up.

For my part, I'm building on about 3500 points of classic metal Sisters, so I'll be building and painting a little bit at a time and probably doing lots of conversions to fill in gaps in my existing lists. I am building the Penitent Engine-- it's an awesome model, but it's built in layers and I'm very glad I painted as I built rather than afterwards-- and I'll be looking at trying to squeeze 4 multi-meltas out of the standard Retributer box, either by scratchbuilding or casting if I can get my head around that.

What are the rest of you faithful servants of the Emperor up to with your new goodies?

Would gladly support such a plastic sisters hobby thread.

Yes, the MM already seems to be a limited and sought after item being the only real anti-big guy option besides the exorcist. Swapping still might be another option to aquire two, since some are aiming for HF or HF squads, but building or casting sound more fun.

Still busy with standard troops myself, got about 50 custom putty heads (and the corresponding bodies) to play with. Further hoping to get a heavily mechanized, bolter rich and mobile force together this year. I know the current codex does not favor this, but I like the looks of it and am just playing with friends for fun.

In addition to the new box set, I have several squads of counts-as Sisters I've been working on the last couple years. Additionally, some Immolators and Exorcists made from a mix of GW rhinos and third-party bits. With the new kit coming out, I feel like these vehicles need to be rather more baroquely decorated, so I've been contemplating how best to do that. I may end up busting out the greenstuff and trying my hand at sculpting some bas-relief panels an other gubbins.

What are you doing for the white armor?

Right now in the building phase of the big box. Once spring comes and I prime, they will be white armor and black robes. Thinking contrast paints for the white.

yeah the white armor is contrast paint over wraith bone. that stuff's a mircle for getting good looking armor. you might want a bit of normal white (I use Valejo cold white) for edge highlighting but you really don't need much, it's really good stuff

Awesome, I thought there was some good energy in this direction.

BrianDavion, those models look fantastic. I've messed with the "cooler" version of white-on-contrast with my White Scars, but the "warmer" version is awesome. Great visor, too... I've been debating red vs. blue lenses for mine.

Hankovitch, how about something like this? Baroque Photo Corners I haven't messed with it myself, but they seem about the right scale... but they're metal and maybe harder to work with. Maybe some SVG files to print and trim?

MaxMoray, I'm glad you dropped in... it was your mini-tutorial on casting Sisters heads that got me thinking "there should be a one-stop place for all this good stuff." Do you think we could cast multimelta barrels using the same approach? It seems like we should, but you might have a sense otherwise...

I'll receive some soon, will give it a try probably next week and post it here. So far looking at the sprue pics I see no reason why not, probably would just copy the entire MM depending on how the bit actually looks. The stormbolters in my latest squad and I think almost all meltas of my older domnions are putty, too. If it's too difficult and the quality lacking, a frame (e.g. from lego) around the press mould can also improve the quality. For happy little mistakes there's also purity seals with parchment and battle damage. The power lines should be easy with green stuff and a Roll Maker tool (or a comb), then there is only the proper backpack, but this should be doable, too. The surface of the MM pointing towards the sister in the 360 degree image on the GW page look quite bland. If one is going to make a MM from putty this could be a spot to add something (a fleur, I)...

Macphail: gonna have to check those photo corner things out, they look potentially very useful! I've used the bead/charm section of craft stores to find fleur-de-lis bits in particular, as well as a number of other useful shapes. A ship's wheel, books, chains, etc.

Here's my first set of GW sisters. I need a better lightbox though.

Colour Symbolism in Christianity

it's pretty useful in that it details what colours symbolize in christianity (sure the ecclisiarchy aren't christian but it's no secret they borrow a lot from catholicism)

it's a good way to devise a colour scheme for an order and make it mean something.

That's an interesting link. I didn't consult it beforehand, but my sister's colors stand for hope, christmas, Trinity season in the summer, trust, Advent and Lent

I like that green armor scheme a lot. I've always been a bit disappointed that all the canonical Orders are variations in black, white, and red. Lacks a certain amount of variety.

On to this week's experiment...

I had some leftover shields and heraldric pieces from the Raging Heroes heavy-armor teams. They have great details and I wanted to duplicate the iconography, but didn't want to start chopping up the only bits I had.

So I got out some thermoplastic and made a couple basic press molds. Wasn't concerned with the reverse side of the shields, they were going to be trimmed and sanded flat anyway to serve as decorative applique on Rhino hulls. I used fine Milliput, and think they turned out pretty well. I'm going to trim the shape a bit to give them as more symmetrical profile, but I think these can go on largely as-is.

So my new ones apparently stand for earth, monks' robes, signifying humility and god’s connection with the commonplace and theordinary. Can live with that.

Looks good. Great minds think alike some say.

Those shields are simply great and fit an Adepta Sororitas army so well. Used them on tanks, crusaders, statues... Was hoping for CC sisters (Celestians) to use more, but the codex says: no. Maybe I'll make some one day.

Do you mind IDing the other add on pieces? Looks like a wargames exclusive turret base, and the armor panels from the GW Repressor or exorcist?

You are right. The passenger compartment is said modified part from WGE, headlights are also WGE. The Dozer blade is slightly modified from Kromlech. The Gunner (I call her Tank girl) is made from Brown Stuff and Magic Sculpt with press moulds from Celestine, Amalia and a Sequitor’s head (made it prior to the army box and the announcement of the new exorcist). The flames on the exhausts are copied from the metal Canoness backpack, the shrine on top is from a Bretonnian banner and the fleurs below the headlights are press moulds from an earring, armor and other details from the Immolator/Exorcist box. The girl on the blade is based on a piece of art by Liam Hammond.

More pics here:

Really would like to repait it for more grit, but am not sure how, yet. Got 2 more of the same to assemble and will try with one of these first.

A repressor is what I count it as in this setup. The dozer blade and the passenger compartment are magnetized. The gunner girl and the Stormbolter turret are on corks and can also be changed, so this vehicle can still be used as a Rhino.

Those door badges look great, and the whole rig in general. Raging Heroes? I may have to check it out. Here's a few of mine... much less baroque, and probably harder to match to the new stuff for that reason. But for those looking to source trim bits, I can recommend the etched brass fleur de lis kit from Hasslefree Minis (top doors and blades) and Zefig's shop on Shapeways (top plates and turrets).
Spoiler:

What I'm in need of is a big pile of Sisters scale power swords and chainswords, not too clunky, to drill and pin to basically every Superior in my army and to covert the army box Seraphim to Zephyrim... who's got a favorite third-party weaponsmith?

it's not third party but It occured to me today the MK 3 space marine bits box would be a fantastic box to raid for chainswords.

Thanks. I'm also a bit disappointed, that - as good as they look - there are not many interesting official color schemes. But that's what I love in this forum, we've already have blue-grey, yellow and earthen ones kicking about.

Thanks, it's really easy to do, just Leadbelcher and the Terradon Torquoise over it.

You could built CC sisters and then play them with the crusaders rules. Not perfect, because they wouldn't have <ORDER>, but maybe one day we'll get some in a Psychic Awakening kind of supplement.

I have about 100 metal sisters, including Celestine and Seraphim, all painted in black armor with red with gold trim robes, not including two DCA, a Penitent, an Exorcist, and two Immolators and three Rhinos. Picked these up over the years because I like painting sisters. (I seem to have lost my Hospitaller though which bums me out).

I love to play wargames - KOW (current game of choice), Hail Caesar, Warhammer Ancients back in the day, but unfortunately could never get into 40k. It doesn't seem like a wargame (to me!), and the scene here appears very competitive. However, I am willing to try again.

The question here though is more for you painters and modelers. I am tired of painting black. Would you just paint new sisters in a new scheme, and I would continue to get old sisters and paint them in my old colors? Would this bother people if I ever played? I dont want to be 'that guy'. I just like painting Sisters, they are some of the best miniatures out there.

I was thinking either a white (cream) and red, or maybe a silver and red? What would look good in combination? Or do I just continue in the old style?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Done my first batch of Sisters of the White Raven - these are from the starter box so they'll be split up into different squads once I get today's releases assembled and painted.

Amalia's chainsword (half buried in snow) is an Imperial Guard one with the army symbol and hand shaved off.

I fully support such a thread
It's nice to see different schemes painted up.

I'm working on an army for my Store and I've my own metal army for 2nd Ed as well to work on.
I'm yet to finish a mini fully but I should have something to share next week.
I will be getting at least one of every kit so it'll be interesting to see what's spare at the end.

I'm almost done putting the Triumph together - lovely minis.
There's no reason why you couldn't use the Sisters as Simulacrum's and use the actual SImulacrum's in the Sisters kit as Imagifiers.
That would give you some Sisters spare to go towards a squad and you could use the body of the Shield sister for a Canoness kit bash.
The Sister with the shroud and the book could easily be a Dialogues.
Then you could use the Tomb as a fancy Objective marker or add it to a standard ruin for the Shrine terrain piece.

The Retributor kit is lacking with only two of each.
I guess you could cut off the Heavy Flamer muzzles and swap them with Meltagun ones to create Multi-meltas?
As for the heads you can simply cut off the tabs and use them however you like - loads of spares there in every kit it seems.

Trolls Under the Bridge do some nice sets for Sisters:
https://www.trolls.cz/collections/conversion-corner?page=1
The Meltagun set in particular is very useful.

I've a hunch that given time third party bits for sisters are gonna really pick up steam. some of the arms options in ther current Battle sister kit are limiting so arm bits that can work as subs will be popular

I currently repaint my old ones so the entire army has one color scheme. I would not be bothered by different color schemes in the army of an opponent, but if you field detachments of different orders it might become a little confusing.

For your own scheme idea, maybe try it on one test model and ask for feedback. White and red as well as silver and red work and can be combined e.g. with gold and/or black among others.

What i have been working this weekend. After 13h assembling and about 14h painting new this is state. 40 slsters so that first 3 steps for red and white are done on bottom half(i figure places i can't reach once glund should be darker anyway so lack of last highlights aren't issue). 23 more need ulthuan grey layer on white parts plus gluing. Can i get them tomorrow for game?

Sisters started today primed, cherubs with bases part done needing trim, glue, priming and magnets.

Busy weekend but soon back to reqular 6 model at time paint schedule. Need to move fast though. 4 weeks to paint 2k for tournament assuming canoness and imagifier gets announced next sunday.

I always said when GW got around to redoing the line, I'd buy some AS. Now that they are here, I've kept my end of the deal and bought some troops and an exorcist. I'm looking at these new models and wondering how well magnetizing the Canonness, the Heavy Gunners, and the Retributor squad models so that we can switch around heavy weapon and specialty weapon options would work. It seems like a bit of a pain, but I'm going to be using the models for kill team and would rather have the ability to swap setups than a bunch of static models. Anyone attempted it yet? Any thoughts from more experienced magnetizers?

Well not single one done ;-) Lower half of armour and cloaks/whatever got 3 steps out of 5 only. Bases have got 2 steps out of 6(plus base edges) only.

Bare minimum to get to playing stage so that the insides of cloaks aren't pain to paint.

That's great use of those Shield bits - I think a unit of Sister-style Crusaders would be supreme.

I'm not great at magnetising but I'd say even experienced guys would have a hard time magnetising these minis - it's the arms/hand joins and the way the backpacks glue together.
They're so small they'd be very tricky to magnetise.
They're great minis but multi-pose they are not, head swaps and occasional hand swaps are doable for most I reckon, but beyond that it's getting into more green stuff territory.
I could be proven wrong though.
The most I've done was put a combi-melta on a Sister Superior using the Sanctum Imp. mini as a base.

I've got a bit of a WIP picture dump in the spoiler tag.
The Triumph is a bit tricky thus far - those cherubs are going to be a real pain!
