Anyone else feeling blue affected by the horrendous weather preventing priming ?

I've been building like a man possessed but there is no way to prime any of my things as its absolutely chucking it down all the time :(

My grandma is staying in the spare room so busting the airbrush booth out is out of the question.

I hate this time of year. Mainly because after the holidays is when I give myself my "bonus" (long story, but let's just say I have a certain goal for my annual budget and a requirement for my savings, and if I exceed those I get to treat myself).

I've been beating it by getting a box fan, turning it backwards and putting it in the window. Then I'll get a cardboard box, make myself a 'screen' and prime the models indoors.

When I start seeing three space marines in my hand, it's time to stop and go outside for some air.

Where I'm at currently, it wreaks havoc on the primer. It'll clump and get 'grainy', no matter what distance you're at or where the models and primer were beforehand. Best you can do is get in the garage most of the time.

Rainy, cold season is why I started using an airbrush to prime. Now I can do it any time I want, and I get better results to boot (and makes zenithal priming a lot easier).

Well, at least that's how it was in Ireland. Dear God, that was the only vacation I went on where I'd rather have stayed inside the entire time and watch television. Going outside it was like I had a soundtrack that repeatedly played 'Mad World' by Gary Jules...

...until I went to the bars, at least.

Definitely feeling it here. Feel like I can't get anything done because there's hardly ever a good day to prime anything. No airbrush, no garage here. Been trying to get into assembling things but pretty much everything I have to put together is a monopose kit (cultists, crypt monsters, etc) so it's hard to get excited when the old LEGO feeling is missing.

maybe get creative and do a bit of chop and change into more dynamic poses ?

It is tricky. When I lived in Ireland, I always snuck into my Dad's shed to get my priming done. Here in Germany, it gets too cold to prime some years (like 14 below). Often you can manage it if you have like a multistory car park nearby or something.

Simple, do it under a dry open air shed or something with the can running under warm water.

Living in the West of Ireland during Winter really puts a stop on my priming, humidity is between 75% and 90%, which means a very small window of opportunity for priming. I may have to invest in a Airbrush, seems like a must for this hobby in this part of the world.

I managed to get some priming done last week, for the first time in about 2 months. It was nice to have some fresh models in my 'to paint' box, despite it already overflowing.

I just have to keep telling myself that every little action is another step towards the end goal

I've never not been able to prime anything because of the season. at my current house, I have a side porch storage with no door, so I can spray in there if its raining. In my old house I used to just spray in the kitchen, with the can aimed towards the open door. as long as you let it vent for a bit after it really wasnt an issue.

So I really dont understand when people have priming issues. maybe those in extreme climes, but not in the oh so average UK.

Also, if it is raining, you could always get a box and turn it sideways, to do quick primes if it is raining.

I am also struggling. I should have primed between Xmas and new Year as in London we had 4 or 5 days that were perfect.

Typically on the 2 days I wanted to prime it rained heavily....

I did manage to get some priming done on Sunday but it was colder outside than expected and even after warming up the can i still ended up with a slightly rough surface.

Never found priming an issue in the winter, in a shed with the door open or under an umbrella even if it’s raining. I find it’s more about where the dry than where it’s sprayed, prob not at -14!!!!!!

I spray outside and move them into the kitchen to dry. Lovely. U can always paint on primer too. Works great with Vallejo primers on plastic.

Yup. This time of year sucks. Building all sorts of stuff I want to get paint on, but have to wait. I do make an effort to stockpile a good variety of stuff in the fall, but that doesn’t help with winter releases/acquisitions.

Problems with priming because of the weather is why I use brush on primer. It's so much easier for me as I don't have a good place to spray, and I don't have to check temperature or humidity to get a good result.

It was 65 degrees here in Boston the other day. I went through three spray cans, and the last can I did was a light rust brown. My partner said I had discovered donald trump's skincare secret.

So, it's Army Painter Rust Brown everyone, in case you're looking to replicate that orangey tone.

Living at the top of a block of flats in South West England, the rain and wind from Storm Brendon means I can't even prime minis on my downstairs neighbours' roof, which is my usual priming spot (although not technically covered by my contract...)

Yeah while I can prime on certain days, those days usually don't line up with my time off. As a result the project I'm currently working on is on hiatus until I can get a nice day on the weekend.

I offset this by having a bunch of minis on my desk pre-primed that I can work through while I wait.

Last year I prepared for winter. By the end of October I had 120 infantry and 6 vehicles all primed, base coated, and ready for paint. I painted all winter and clear coated them in the spring.

This is something I forgot to do this year, and it's frustrating. I think I'll use my heat gun to warm up the garage, plus a dehumidifier to dry it out a tad. I think that should be just enough to avoid the primer lifting.

I pay for an underground spot / small garage I can use and spray. I still prefer hand priming on infantry models

Ive primed in the humidity of South Carolina for years, I just bump the air conditioner down a notch and let it all dry in a room with a ceiling fan on.

I brush undercoat. I hate brush undercoating.... but sometimes you have to do what you have to do.

Since I live within the Arctic Circle (an exaggeration) it is never priming weather......

Same kind of weather around here. This 'winter' has felt more like spring so far. We had a little snow a couple weeks ago, but mostly its been in the 40s-60s (5-15 C). Ground is saturated, but it often isn't raining, just not drying out for days at a time.

This is my first year in the American Deep south, and I have to say, I love year round priming (and cigar smoking).

Yes.... I had a friend who had a great room for priming just move away so I no longer have my outlet. I recently started airbrush priming, which helps keep my solos and the like primed, but doesn't help when I've got 100 grotz to prime.
