Hey all

I have just seen the "battle mat" that comes in the Know No Fear box set by GW. Whilst I'm aware it's not a 4ft x 2ft mat, placed on a 4x2 sheet of MDF, and glued down using PVA, I think it would make a great looking gaming surface, put two together and you have a half decent looking almost 4x4 gaming area.

I'm wondering though, how to protect it?

Would anyone here have any ideas on a cheap, very inexpensive, widely available, way of protecting such a surface?

It really depends on what the surface is made of, often it get scratched by moving miniatures and placing terrain, then there is the odd drink spill; protecting from dust you can get a canvas or dry cleaning plastic or similar; though you’re better off getting a 6x4 rollable mousepad surface from varied companies.

Several brush coats of PVA (thin coats, wait for it to dry avoid dust) will work as a cheap varnish. Its not waterproof though. If you can get hold of cheap varnish/varnish spray that would be superior. If Poundland don't have the varnish, they will have the PVA.
