So, I had glued bmy box bundle. Now I have tons of bases to glue my models on. I organized them according to size and to my surprise, there is no markings of their size. Just glue this to 60 mm base. Seriously? I have to eyeball this nonsense from instructions and intuition? Is GW too busy printing pointless information under its bases to bother providing such basic help for people? I'm a new guy and I'm certainly lost without clear instructions.

Wait, so is the criticism that the bases don't say how big they are on them?

Yeah, generally bases match the size of the miniatures.. But if you had issues, you could just measure them.

The thing is, I shouldn't do such basic stuff. I'm an engineer and a programmer with specialization in mathematics. I love precision and correct ways of doing stuff as you could imagine from such person. Having to eyeball what is supposed to fit where is really annoying, especially assembling a big box. Finding some measurement tool is also not easy. I would have to go and buy it for something as simple as that. What I have done was to take biggest model and smallest four legged one. Look at their instruction manual and solve this issue this way.

Yet, I'm still deeply disappointed with quality of GW product. It is like some cheap Chinese knock off. One pack of bases was not packed and let loose in my box. It is also missing one base. Like seriously? Instructions are half done. Some of them are missing numbers in some places, others do not have them at all. SImilar situation is with plastic sprues. Random location of numbers to make your life more difficult and sometimes there aren't any numbers on them at all. Sometimes there is a mistake somewhere and one or two numbers are missing from plastic sprues. In a same way I had noticed mistakes and in assembly guide where number of a sprue does not match with a number indicated in a guide. I also would like GW to have common sense to print english AoS and W40k rule pages on same two pages. Now sometimes I have to go through all that foreign nonsense to find page which I want to see. There is no consistency in these guides.

if youre an engineer then I'd suggest you should be able to eyeball the difference between a 32mm, a 40mm and a 60mm base.

I've never has any issues with the GW product quality. did you buy direct from them? if so maybe talk to their customer services.

As for the rest, well all model sprues have numbers in random places, scale, wargame miniatures, that's just life. I tend to just build the model without instructions so I cant really speak to the quality of those, but the GW ones always seem pretty good.

This really calls for a commercial with an exasperated actor fumbling with a pile of bases in an exaggerated manner, then throwing up their hands and shrugging into the camera.

BaseSizer(TM)...just $19.95 and they'll throw in a second one if you act now.

I do find GW is lazy with their packaging more often now days. However...I can't see how this is a difficult problem. Hell, I have a Fiskars cutting surface on my desk with handy little 1" squares meaning I can plop a base down and immediately determine it's size just using the grid of the cutting mat.

Is it a minor annoyance to you? Sure. Worth getting actually riled up over on the internet? No...and I'm a guy who more or less dislikes Games Workshop.

I second the comment: if you’re an engineer and you can’t eyeball the difference between a 50mm and a 60mm base (hint, the 60mm is bigger), I think you should get your money back on your diploma. That’s...such a non issue for anyone. Ok, I get being annoyed at the missing number on the sprue. Or instructions that have you put stuff together backwards (I’m talking to YOU, original plastic 5th edition Drop Pod). But spelling out that the 60mm base is bigger than a 50mm or 40mm is ridiculous. GW isn’t required to print “common sense”. Otherwise I’m gonna tell them to put “remember to breathe” in their instructions so I don’t forget and accidentally pass out.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Well eyeballing 25mm and 28mm wasn't as instant without comparing them side by side. Albeit tiny issue since there was all available for comparison

Well yeah, but 3mm is a little more excusable, but when you're getting to 10mm you should be able to tell the difference side by side.

It might be worth passing this feedback onto GW rather than shouting it into the internet-void.

Personally in over 30 years (on and off), I've never had any problems with GW packing, instructions (where needed), or bases.

Some of their older stuff didn't even come with instructions - you got a box of sprues and figured it out for yourself for the simpler minis.

And involves a scene trying to put a Riptide on a 25mm base.

The only time I've made a mistake with bases was with Wrath and Rapture, as I got the bases mixed up. Very much my fault though, and easily fixed as I realised quite quickly.

I do think it would make sense for GW to put the size on the bottom of the base, however...

What kind of engineer doesn't have a ruler? or a tape measure? I hope you aren't planning on playing the game.

It may make sense to have base size on the underside of the bases but I can't imagine them retooling the injection moulds for ALL of their base sizes and ALL of their scenic bases; it's just not practical when yer just a ruler away from determining sizes.

Who? Me? Should be Finnish fairly regularly except during summer when I'm in Japan(not this year I think though). If it's been changing recently then it's dakkadakka oddity. Haven't gone outside Finland since July and never used VPN in my life.

it wouldn't hurt them to stick the size under it, though this being GW would expect more of a "type A", "type B" etc

No Ernestas. This one says russian fed, and in the other thread it was Netherlands Antilles, and then a different flag further down the page.

I'm struggling to see a thread in which a self-proclaimed engineer and mathematician claims to not own a ruler as anything other than some bizarre troll attempt.

Moving on.
