So I couldnt stop myself any longer, ordered the starter box (the one with the full rulebook) yesterday. Dunno if theres any activity about it on here, the game doesnt seem to have gotten traction anywhere really but Warlord does seem hellbent on keeping it going.

Im not sold on its aesthetics as Im not really big on the clean and neat look of it, but the little I gathered from the lore makes it interesting at least. Its far from the amazinsanity of 40k though.

But the ruleset, oh man does it look fun! Bolt Action but with a little more crunch and variety, and im already a sucker for Bolt Action.
I really wish the best for this game and just thought i would throw a topic up here to make the name shown a little more.

I hear great things about the game, it is just the model range that seems to turn people off of it sadly.

Having played it a few times, it's a good ruleset with somewhat bland miniatures (the plastic Freeborn don't exactly inspire me to paint them, and I really wish some plastic Isorians would be released as they're far more interesting looking). It's a bit clunky at the moment with a lot of extra stuff added on and various updates, so it really needs a clean up rulebook.

Problem is, Warlord seems on a perpetual chase for that next hit, so I don't see a lot of push on the Antares front.

That last bit makes me so cautious about ever supporting Warlord stuff. I gave my heart to too many Spartan Games products that were forever doomed for exactly that same reason.

How long has it been since their last plastic kit? Was it the Freeborn?

When i discovered Spartan a few years ago they were in the middle of developing the new Dystopian Wars.
I went allin on their kickstarter (or was it some other crowdfunder?) and waited eagerly...
Then they went under...

Luckily I managed to get my money back but it sure left me cautious.

I am about Antares as well but i can live with wasting the money for a core and rulebook. I just wish this ruleset was attached to more interesting setting. But im willing to give it a chance, maybe it grows on me.

At the moment, I really wish Antares would do what Rick did with Warlords of Erehwon, which is release a points value document that lets players make their own unit profile. I really like Antares' rules but tying it down to their universe is problematic when it's Warlord in charge of the development and release of new miniatures.

The setting itself is a good one. It feels very “sci fi novel” for a wargame setting, not grimdark or po-faced. The stories I’ve read so far have been pretty fun.

Great point! A points calculator would be absolutely amazing!
