I am a fairly inexperienced player who will be playing a casual 500 point tournament tomorrow and wanted to run a tervigon list. Normally tervigons I feel arent very strong but in a small army where they are regenerating a decent chunk of your army every turn, it can work. However, because of my lack of experience, I'm trying to finish the list and could use some advice. Here is a breakdown of what I have to consider:

[180] Tervigon w/ massive scything talons

[8/each] Termagant w/ devourer

[4/each] Termagant w/ fleshborer

[12/each] Genestealer

[115] Broodlord

I also have ripper swarms and gargoyles that I could include but that's it based on the max of 200 points per unit rule. I am trying to find the ideal comp with enough devourers to make the tervigon worth it but need other supporting units so I dont get wrecked in melee.

Example list:

185: Tervigon w/ adrenal glands

200: 20 devourers, 10 fleshborers termagants

115: broodlord

Another:

180: Tervigon

115: Broodlord

120: 10 Genestealers

84: 6 devourer, 9 fleshborer gants

I could also remove the broodlord from the above list for more gants and genestealers. Any suggestions?

I'd recommend replacing the broodlord with more bodies for all options. The broodlord and tervigon take up 295 pts together, which doesn't leave a lot of room for troops.

Remember that Tervigon's can only replenish Fleshborer models, so you probably don't want too many devourers.

I'd consider perhaps running one block of 30 Termagants (all Fleshborers) and a basic Tervigon, then spend the last 200 points on Warriors to lend a bit more shooting and some melee capability (can get 8 with Boneswords/Deathspitters).

Couple hypotheticals:

List #1 Patrol:
Spoiler:

HQ: Tervigon with Massive Scything Talons, Stinger Salvo

TROOPS: 30x Termagants with Fleshborers
TROOPS: 8x Warriors with Boneswords, Deathspitters

List #2 Battalion (MSU Warriors):
Spoiler:

HQ: Tervigon with Massive Scything Talons, Stinger Salvo
HQ: Tyranid Prime with Boneswords/Deathspitter

TROOPS: 23x Termagants with Fleshborers
TROOPS: 3x Warriors with Boneswords, Deathspitters
TROOPS: 3x Warriors with Boneswords, Deathspitters

I do think regardless one does want to keep the Termagant unit fairly large. It isn't hard to loose 15-20 in one go but as long as you have at least one left you can replenish them.

I would be going with List #2 from the above, but really think that one of those warrior squads should be rippers, then put the rest of the warriors into the one squad. Definitely need some buffs for those units, but could be fun
