... along with this Tyranid list, I'm also considering a 13th Company Space Wolf list geared exclusively for fighting using the Cities of Death rules.  Here's what I have so far:

++Mani Grimblood's Night Runners++
1,850 Pts - Space Wolves 13th Company Roster

++HQ++

Wolf Lord @ 310 Pts
Terminator Armor; Wolf Pelt; Master-crafted Frost Blade; Storm Bolter
7 Storm Claws Pack @ 177 Pts
Bolt Pistol & CCW (x5); Bolt Pistol & Power Fist (x2); Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades

I took the Terminator armor for my Wolf Lord since I plan on using the Logan Grimnar model.  He's one of my favorite Space Wolf models.

Rune Priest @ 122 Pts

Wolf Tail Talisman; Bolt Pistol; Rune Weapon

The Rune Priest will join one of the Grey Slayer packs and will use The Gate to get them into position.

Wolf Priest @ 120 Pts
Iron Wolf Amulet; Healing Potion & Balms; Bolt Pistol; Power Weapon;

The Wolf Priest will join the Wulfen, naturally.

++ELITES++

7 Wulfen Pack @ 168 Pts

Along with the Wolf Lord and his retinue the Wulfen will be the main close combat punch.  Normally I'd rather have this unit be a little larger but I'm not sure what to drop in order to do so.

++TROOPS++

7 Grey Slayers Pack @ 208 Pts
Bolter & CCW (x5); Flamer (x2); Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades
Wolf Guard Pack Leader
Auspex; Bolt Pistol & Power Fist; Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades

7 Grey Slayers Pack @ 208 Pts
Bolter & CCW (x5); Flamer (x2); Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades
Wolf Guard Pack Leader
Auspex; Bolt Pistol & Power Fist; Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades

7 Grey Slayers Pack @ 208 Pts
Bolter & CCW (x5); Flamer (x2); Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades
Wolf Guard Pack Leader
Auspex; Bolt Pistol & Power Fist; Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades

A good solid base for the army, IMHO.  The flamers will help root out the enemy and each squad has a hidden power fist for close in work.

++FAST ATTACK++

12 Fenrisian Wolf Pack @ 120 Pts

12 Fenrisian Wolf Pack @ 120 Pts

Wolves will help bulk out the army.  Would I be better off running three packs of eight each?

++HEAVY SUPPORT++

4 Long Fang Pack @ 248 Pts
Lascannon (x4)
Pack Leader
Bolt Pistol & CCW

My sole long-ranged firepower.  They'll be vulnerable to enemy shooting so hopefully I'll be able to find a good place to set them up to provide them with lots of cover.

Total Roster Cost: 1,832 points

That leaves me 18 points to spare in case I missed some otherwise obvious piece of wargear or whatnot.  As always, comments are appreciated.

With the short lines of sight, you may be better off giving the longfangs melta/plasma guns and keeping them close to your packs. It would also shave some more points for adding more wargear to your pack leaders or another unit.

Thanks for the reply.

The idea with the Long Fangs was to get them into an elevated position where they can snipe at their targets at maximum range and be out of range for return fire. Kitting them out with meltas would place the small squad too close to the enemy for my liking.

18 points huh?

How bout the wolf tooth necklace for the lord, a pelt and fang of morkai for the wolf priest?

And I would split up the fenrisian wolves into 3 units of 8. They're more flexible that way.

Would the Wolf Priest have any use for the Wolf Pelt? Do Wulfen have the Counter-Attack Universal Special Rule? If not, then the Wolf Priest will not be able to make use of the ability while a member of their pack.

I was thinking that, but I was also thinking they would be a bit tougher in a larger pack.

Ok... then give the pelt to one of the pack leaders.

Acutually, I just read through the Wulfen entry (as well as all the 13th company special rules) and yeah, the wulfen get counter attack just like all other units in the 13th company, as they use all the special rules from C:SW, except "Drop Pods".

So yeah, give the pelt to the wolf priest.

With the abundant cover and short lanes of sight, the lascannons wont have good lanes of fire and wont be as useful as you think. Meltas/plasma let you move, and have the same chance of killing models. In CoD, movement and short ranged deadly fire, followed by CC is the name of the game.

Again, I plan on placing them in an elevated position. That should give them enough line of sight to pick off their intended targets. Meltas would require me to be too close to the enemy and a five man pack would never survive that long and plasmas are not strong enough and are too tempermental with the Gets Hot! rule.

I will admit that I've only played a handful of cityfight games so far, and with my Guard rather then my wolves, but I have had big problems making lascannon fire useful in those games. Normallly a heavy weapons platoon or an IF platoon can concentrate fire to melt any unit, but in the City fight games I've been involved in the area terrain rules and densely packed buildings conspired to prevent my heavys from getting line of sight even when mounted on the 3rd floor of a building.

Remember that area terrain will block LOS through buildings to any unit behind them. Unless you are lucky and your opponent puts models high enough for you to see over to them or you have wide fire lanes in the terrain you will not be able to shoot much at long range. Every table I've played on has limited most fire to about 24' unless you fire right down a street.

Your long fang pack will also be all on their own vs any deep strike or sewer rat units who come up behind. The rest of your army will be surging forward to get within 12', leaving the long fangs unsupported and alone. If you are that afraid of taking return fire have one of your other packs near by. Wipe out a unit and leave your long fangs and a unit of grey slayers too far behind cover for your opponent to get a clear shot.

That's why I've only taken one squad. And just because the longest line of sight I might get is 24" doesn't mean that I can't use my lascannons. They're still S9 AP2.

And unless they come out on the top floor of the building I won't have to worry about that. Plus I have a Rune Priest that can gate in all of the help I'll need.
