I'm testing the following list next. What do you think are it's most downfall? Any alterations you would suggest? I play in a too competitive environment for my taste. Missions vary with a Mix of ITC/maelstorm games.

Here is my thought counter:

Have to say that the death company are more of a filler for 114p. Also the incursors might serve better as something else? They are for some board control and mines are there for the rule of cool.. so there are atleast these two places to free up points. Also had a debate with myself between second smash captain and sanguinor buffing the sanguinary guard. I hope I can bring the sanguinary guard in T3 to benefit from savage echoes so a solid alpha strike potential from two smash captain won.. this time.

Thoughts? Any experiences with competitive blood angels? The Internet is lacking content for competitive blood angels, hopefully not for a reason..

I'm most certain my next opponent will be an Ad Mech gunline, but I'm not building this list in one opponent on my mind anyhow.. so this is something for longer though. Although next LGS tourney in few weeks is at 1,5k and I'm sick of playing my Raven guard..

Some advice I've been running a mixed admech/ba sang guard bomb army,
Give the scouts combat knives + chainsword on sgt (55 pts you get 17 attacks on a charge wounding at worst on a 5+)
You lose the bolt pistol on the sgt but he can throw a grenade

Axes are amazing on the sanguinary guard str 5 means you wound at worst on a 4+ and ap 2 gets most enemies to their invuln saves, consider a libby with jump pack and quake bolts to deepstrike with them (also asteroth with upon wings of fire with the +2 to charge and exploding hits makes the guard extremely dangerous)

After a long weekend of gaming, I'm altering a bit my list.

Here's where's it at now and going into test game within couple of hours.

...changes due to. To play better the second turn approach, I want more dakka, so added 10 lascannons. (was troubled between triple whirlwinds for indirect fire vs. the lascannons) Two blobs of sanguinary guard are for target saturation and increased chance of maximising the stratagem usage on a full man unit.

We'll see how it goes.

I'd suggest picking up a jump pack librarian with quickening and unleash rage to support your sang guard
Quake bolts are a good upgrade as well counters the -1 to hit with fists/hammers
(Out of deepstrike if you get quickening off you only need a 5" charge give him the angel wings for deny overwatch and reroll charges for more fun)
Ps in this case you can take pinion on the smash cap so he can fall back then charge something else

More games on my belt with just to test out some units so I thought I could share some thoughts. The BA tactics thread is dead anyways so don't think this is any worse place to put those thoughts. There's also my evolved list to field in my next games.

So in my lastest games I've struggled with only having one true melee threat so I'm heavily leaning on two 10man SG blobs in the near future. One coming starting on table or dropping T2 and one on T3 to benefit from our chapter tactics.

In my last game against drukhari should make my BA problems (and my skill to play, hehe) visible.

I was going second, so I castled and hide my Smash cpt, mephy, astorath, tacticals squads with lascannons, contemptor dread with las and cyclone. Some scout infiltrate and my melee go in the deepstrike.

How my enemy deployed I had a super chance to uwof my smash captain to drop a ravager and a raider. So I tried to seize, getting it and failing the reroll for 8" charge, leaving my smash cpt 9" away from the enemy as a sitting duck.

I pulled my contemptor and two squads of las tacs away from the cover to shoot at the pesky eldar flyers, but with -1 to hit and further lightning reflexes I only did so little damage. Well for 6 las + 2 missile shooting you can't expect much anyways.

We were playing a new maelstorm mission with custom decks, so I created a more killy and secure X deck, with no defend, supremacy etc in it.

The eldar's moved, shot my dread, then I dropped the half dam strat and it sustained all the incoming fire at 6 wounds, which should have been a dead dread.. so maybe a solid 1cp here.. My smash cpt was easily killed with really bad fnp, save rolling.. I think in on average rolls it would have sustained.. I tried to fight when I died against a homunculus, but I just couldn't get through the 2+ inv.

The second turn I kept shooting, but no real damage done. I brought my death company (small unit) inside my opponents deployment zone, killed a unit and consolidated on another 5man troops.. only to get fled and shot to pieces. Wrapping one would have needed one more inch or so..

I brought Mephiston from the cover to approach a venom and some troops, we played overwatch (you can't overwatch with open top vehicle passangers) wrong so I got super lucky dual shot (two 6's) with a relic pistol to drop Mephy in 1 wound, but I massacred the venom in the melee.

My opponent got his missions better than me and he finally shot my shooties.. dropping three units of those winged guys in my back to make short of my contemptor and badly exposed Astorath. (I used Astorath for two turns to give +1 to wound aura on the contemptor failing T2 the litany, that's the only contribution from him).

At the start of turn three my opponent had most of the board control and points lead like 7-4. I bring my cavalry 8man SG blob, along with SG ancient and priest. (we were playing the overwatch wrong, so I was scared to charge a raider with like 40 shots incoming). I did 27 damage on the ravager in melee, killed the homunculus with my SG ancient. I shot around 5-6 damage on the ravager before charging in with my angelus boltguns without any strats.

Mephy wrecked a unit again, having the 12" move in the following turns movement phase is huge and you can wings him again in the psychic phase.

After turn three my intercessor squad with auto bolt rifles had killed two units of wracks with combined shooting and melee, 5 power fist attacks from the sergeant is crazy. Also my 3man boltgun scouts killed a 5man T3 troops squads on the charge with 11 attacks with +1 to wound and -1 ap. Mephy continued with his rampage to only eventually kill 4/5 troops from a critical objective for me, which would have gotten me two points.. but not make a true difference.. I shot the damaged raider with bolt fire with remaining with my 4 remaining SG (1 was revived by the priest, just to die in the overwatch).

We decided to stop playing when we revealed our left missions I couldn't just keep up.

The things I took from this for me was:

- Don't use CP for a reroll, just don't. You need all those CP to juice up your main power which are those deepstrike units.

- 5+++ from the banner of sacrifice for the SG is great, so don't go for that kill with your SG ancient, atleast when it's super cheap HQ.

- icon of the angel is great...

- some shooty vs. no shooty and more melee... Those lascannons really didn't do much..

- primaris troops are far superior over tac/scouts.. Incursors, intercessors are my go to troops from now on.

- I'll keep the plan for going second and then just don't seize! idiot! We both agreed that if I would have went second or just got the smash cpt charge in the game would have been a lot different. Also I the bad dice rolling day.. with spectators feeling sorry for me.. for example enemy shoots overwatch with two dice -> two sixes.. then he rolls two sixes for to wound and I roll two ones for the saving throw.. Also failed every 5+ rerolling 1's with my smash captain, rolling only 2-3's.. T1, even a single fnp might have saved him to survive till T2..

- Mephy, T3 any unit getting into melee, SG angelus boltgun shooting even without the start were my MvP's.

So here's my evolved list.

Mephy > quickening, wings of sanguinius, shield of sanguinius (unleash rage seemed unneccesary)

lieutenant (for 1 more CP)

13x death company, 3x fist, 10x chainsword, 13 boltguns (this will be another 10x sanguinary guard when I get the models done)

I'll try if my minor shooting is just indirect and focus on surviving untill T3 when my troops and deep strike threat start their killing.

My fears are the the CP will run out too fast and I really need to focus on saving em' for getting my charges in with DoA, maybe 2 min dam start for SG and uwof 1-2 HQ's.

Weirdly long post, but hope someone gets something out of it.

@Fulgrim if needed I will use Mephy to buff up SG with the shield.. with mass volume they don't need another attack.. I would bring the Sanguinor if I would really need those attacks. Quake bolts is good for sure, but it's just on fourth place with veritas vitae on my to go relics list.. I hope the spring update will get us the regular SM relic cost.

this 1k times this. I'm still amazed anyone's using anything else. I'm using the same 6 troops sans fists as they haven't been converted yet.

Totally agree on ditching DC they're just not hard enough now. Also using the sheild on SG is rarely usefull as you don't come across more than -3 often in my experience.

I'm not convinced on whirlwinds but then I don't have any. I'm seriously considering Impulsors now maybe at least 2.

I also agree on the usage of CP I get my re-rolls from somewhere else or just accept them as they fall. I also found that I don't need DVoS and now I've moved to primaris I don't need a 2nd relic, saving me another point, however you can save them, do it. Also no DC means no forlorn fury to spend on.

Now that the errata dropped I suffled my list a bit even before trying the above one.. Trying the following on saturday (proxy time, no time to build the 2nd SG..) impulsor or two could be great here too, but going heavy on 2w wounds for some games atleast..
