ITC tournament list Idea I had. Making a stormlord into what Id imagine a hellhound would be if it was that large.
Tell me why this list would suck, or maybe how it can be better. Because I really want it to be good.

Strategy; All Command Squads load up in Stormlord and barrel straight towards the enemy. If I can get within 9" range, I unload 9 Heavy Flamers, and 14 flamers into enemy. Rest of Army does Imperial Guard things.
Yes, this list bleeds victory points for enemy.

My question is how survivable is a stormlord really? With Astropaths hopefully better, but Im still scared Ill face space marines and have the castle demolished turn 1, and then everything else just fall apart.
Thoughts?

Rule of three. You can not bring 4 commanders or 4 command squads into the game.

That being said, stormlords get blown up on turn 1 before they can do stuff, almost every time. Its going to be a bit better in the current itc where one team knows its going to be first when it sets up, but its still easy meat for lascannon fire from angry chaplain dreads, or the repulsor over there.
So, I would rework this. Tallarn doctrine for the win, and no side sponsons. Viola, you can actually ambush strike the baneblade class tank with troops in it!

Thanks. Just getting back into 40k for the first time in a couple years so I expected there to be some oversights.

I like the Tallarn doctrine idea, but removing sponsons cuts out four of the heavy flamers, which feels pretty rough. Anyway around this? Is it really just impossible to use the doctrine with sponsons?

With command squads cut and sponsons cut, what other ways do we have of stuffing the stormlord full of flamers? Im thinking maybe veterans.

Incidentally, and its going to soudn bizzaro, death korps of krieg has some small infantry units that can pack heavy flamers, I believe in their heavy weapon squads.

I wasn't aware heavy flamers could even be taken in command squads, in eigth regular imperial gaurd.

Since in new ITC competition you either setup first and go first, or setup second and go second, you have a natural defense against the baneblade being killed before it can do anything -- start it offboard if you are the defender, slide it on the side of the board somewhere and open up.

BUT.

you have to start the tank 9 inches from the enemy, and flamers are an EIGHT inch weapon unless you are marines and cheating.
So you can't actually shoot any flamers that way on round 1, for the tank, which sucks.

catachan. *(the command "burn them out" is pretty awesome for gaurd, as stripping cover from marines doubles your actual effectiveness.)
3 command squads with 4 flamer each\
3 special weapons squads with 3 flamer each\
3 veteran squads with 3 flamer and 1 heavy flamer each
would be the cheapest route to 31 flamers in play, for about

To piggy-back on Duke's advice:
Since Castellan's wrecked things (ha!) early on in 8e, most ITC lists are going to have enough guns, Smash Captains, haywire or whatever to drop a 24 point T8 target in one go.

That's just how the meta evolved when Imp Knights really landed hard, 2.5 years ago.

Hit Frontlinegaming's site and look over the ITC missions. Be aware they (that is, we the community) are beta testing revised missions for the last two weeks, getting input from the community and likely to release a 1.2 version any day.
