Welcome all to the 61st round of the Dakka Painting challenge. This month's round marks the start of the challenge's 6th annual rotation, kicking off another 12-month rate to the top of the League, and a whole lotta painting along the way! For the unfamiliar, this is a friendly painting competition open to members of all skill levels and experience, whether your entry is your first or you thousand-and-first time painting miniatures. Each month, finished entries are collected into a thread where the community can vote on their favourite pieces, and those votes go towards an annual overall League that runs for 12 rounds, ending in February next year.

This month, the theme, as traditional for the first round of each year, is Space Marines, those ubiquitous space-borne fighty chaps with all that armour and whatnot. But, as always, the only limit on your entry is your imagination in interpreting that theme. In the past, we've had Orks in looted power armour, Space Marines adorning the bases of alien monstrosities, and even a bemused collection of/modern-day marines who found themselves suddenly in space... So go wild, and as long as it's at least somewhat related, you're good!

How To Enter

- You may enter up to 5 MODELS as a SINGLE ENTRY, and are permitted one entry per member per month. If you enter multiple models, they should ideally be related in some way, such as part of the same squad, unit or scene if you are doing a diorama
- You MUST post a 'proof' picture of your entry in the thread of the state it was in before you started working on it; this must be either unassembled, unpainted, primed or coated a single colour. Entries that do not submit a valid Proof Picture will not be eligible for voting.
- After this, you may post WIP pictures in this thread and your own if you wish, and on completing the entry, you may post up to 6 final pictures IN THIS THREAD that will then be used for voting. Please note that pictures in a montage or collage picture will be considered individual images for this purpose, so while these types of presentation are certainly acceptable, please keep the image limit in mind when compiling them. For example, a collage of 5 images and one separate image would count as your 6 picture allowance.

So What Do I Win?
- Points... and points mean... bragging rights for the next month! Following the vote, points will be awarded to every entrant. This year, the Points you receive will be equal to the Percentage of Votes your entry receives in the final Voting thread; if you get 10%, you get 10 points, if you get 6% you get 6 points, so on and so forth.

These points will be used to form a league table, which will be updated month on month as the results come in.

How Long Do I Have?
This challenge begins 1st of March and will end at midnight UK time on the 31st of March. After this, I shall compile the finished entries into a new thread, and voting will run for 5 days.

Ahh man just my luck! Tbh, if I had bought it off you it would have probably got lost in the post or something! That's an absolute steal though!

Yeah, I've had him knocking about for ages. It's a lovely model but I have tons of other things I'd rather paint, so I'm trying to offload some of my junk. People are so stingy though. Got tons of watchers on ebay, same with a NIB angron I have up on there.. He's on for £8 less than retail and I'm taking offers, but people still want more off. Ridiculous.

I'll be painting flamey skull dude from the Shadowspear box. Just realized that the last Chaos marines I've painted were the Space Crusade ones and 'painting' then actually meant using permanent markers, LOL

I was going to enter a couple of Tyrant Guard dismembering a space marine, but was inspired to make this angry person instead:

I'll paint my first ever primaris marine for this month - a Deathwatch Intercessor. Just need to decide which chapter he comes from now - probably one with an easy to freehand chapter symbol

Long time lurker, first time participator. I promised myself as part of my 2020 hobby resurection year I would enter the Dakka Painting Challenge once the annual rotation kicked off. It has still managed to sneak up on me, but here we are. I'll only have two weeks available this month (three from next month) - so we'll see how I go. Luckily I have this Dark Vengeance Dark Angels Terminator that I prepared five (probably more) years ago. Unluckily I undercoated it black back then. He has been de-dusted for his "proof" picture. Good luck everyone!

Here's my entry for the month. After Beastman Bounty hunter and the Kellermorph, Cypher will close the trilogy of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (Who's who depends on your allegiance or level of cynicism).

Gonna throw my hat in the ring for the first time with not one, but 2 WHOLE space marines. Aiming to finish these guys and complete my first unit in who knows how long.
Thankfully, with these being black templars, they're what, 50 percent done already, no?

I'm sure I've got a space marine somewhere for this. Gotta do a heckin quick one because of how full my March schedule is (Trance Unity this weekend, Adepticon the last week of the month, and I have my Creature Caster model and 10 Revenants still to finish).

This one is going to be really tough, as I have no Marines, not even parts other than some Rhino bits.

What if I did a Sisters of Battle Rhino...it is a Rhino like the Marines ride around in only with more bling.

Wait a minute...it is a Marine Rhino kit...rummages around...there is a Marine...well most of one.

An objective marker for recovering the gene seed.

Cheers,

CB

Are posting update WIP pics allowed in here?

Thanks fellas! In that case! Day 2 - as I like to call it, the 'false sense of progress phase' Base colours are going down nicely, and the minis are starting to take shape. I'm even thinking of being arrogant, and throwing another marine into the mix! Ooh my!

...but when the proper detailing starts, that's when these two will slow down, along with all the other stuff on my workbench. Gonna try to keep posting, to keep my motivation up! Name and shame me if I'm gone for more than a couple of days!

I should have thought about this thread sooner! First attempt at such a challenge and also first time painting a vehicle, this month a Night Lords Rhino.
Im hoping this doesnt rag on too long...my Helbrute took many months to get finished.

Here's my proof pic, the heroes from the labyrinth of the necrons board game. I haven't painted imperial fists, salamanders or space wolves before and the only ultramarine I have painted was Guilliman so this should be interesting, I have had plenty of practice with blood angels though.

Arakasi,

Of course you can. Month always starts with the proof pictures of your basically unpainted model(s) and during the month some work in progress shots are nice and then near the end your finished figure(s).

Cheers,

Thanks Captain Brown. That was more a rhetorical question about my ability to finish (and a WIP) than permission to compete (proof picture posted earlier).

Should be simple enough to paint just one dude, right? Plus I have good motivation beyond this challenge since I might just be using this guy in some lists.
