Hello all,
I am working on getting all of my armies up to at least 2500pts painted and thought it would be fun to share some pics as I go. I have an army of everything except Tomb Kings and Bretonnia. My son had Lizardmen so I will be leave those alone as well just about everything else is a possibility. I may add to armies as a breather between full armies.

Last month I did the Painting Pledge on the Square Hammer Facebook group. It was a good way to get motivated. I decided to get started on my Orc army. Orcs are the first army I use the Minwax method on. I was quite pleased with how they turned out. I may try it for other armies in the future. I am definitely going to touch up my 40K Orks with it. This is what I managed to get done.

All Da ladz,

Warboss Shaz McNasty and his Battle Standard Bearer.

Two Shaman, mostly run as a level 4 & 2.

Some nice 3rd party Mangler Squigs I picked up on Ebay.

Rock Lobbas and gitz

40 Orcs with spears, will probably mostly use them a Big’Unz.

32 Arrer Boyz.

32 Ruglud’s Armoured Orcs. It took a while to get this many and 7 are converted. Ebay prices for Dogs of War units had gotten insane.

50 Black Orcs. These were the first unit I painted in February and before I started using Minwax. I may go back and give them the Minwax treatment, but they are good for now.

I wanted to get a new Giant finished too, but time slipped by. As it was, I didn’t get started until half way through February, the wife doesn’t let me take models on vacation . I a pleased with this much in 17 Days. For March I am going to try to get more units finished for my Nurgle Daemos, hopefully that will be just as productive.

Very nice! That huge block of Black Orcs is very intimidating (though posing all those so they rank up must have been worse!).
What ruleset do you use?

Thanks. Yeah those Black orcs are a pain to rank up, sometimes it doesn't work so well. I am a dedicated 8th ed fan.

Hey all,
Today I thought I would share some pics of my Troll Horde. Originally this project started as a troll horde for my Orc army and it blossomed into an army of it’s own. They ended up being my fall 2019 Project.

Throgg's Horde

It took a while to get to this point. My original 4 metal Stone Trolls were painted about 20 years ago. I mostly bulked them up with Reaper Bones Cave trolls.
I added some variety to them with some extra Ogre bits and some slight arm adjustments. I also used Green Stuff to put noses on all the Reaper Trolls. The Reaper sculpter made them with Pug noses and I didn't care for that.
The noses also help them blend in more with the GW models.

The Reaper trolls fit well with the GW models. I also picked up an old Blood Bowl troll to act as a kinda troll champion. I know they can’t have them but someone has to look like they are in charge.

The guy with the big hammer is from a Dungeon crawler boardgame, I think it’s called Massive Darkness. I just love the model and he fits in well, he is defiantly in charge of this unit.

Originally, I didn’t plan on having any River Trolls, but in building the army I stumbled across some good deals on Ebay, so BOOM! We now have another unit.

I think I had the most fun with the characters in this army. I wanted models that stood out among a sea of blue/grey. I had always liked the old Confrontation trolls, so I thought they would make good characters. Though I was shocked to see the prices of them online, people want crazy money for them. Fortunatly I found a Cadwallow Miniatures. Through means I don’t want to know they are reproducing much of the old Confrontation catalog. So for a good price and a few weeks through customs, they arrived. Just FYI, be careful cleaning them, they are all lead and weigh a ton.

I still need to think up something to go on this banner but this guy was fun to paint. I’m thinking a big question mark would be funny on the banner, basically he forgot why he is important. In games I use this guy as Scyla for an added Leadership boost to the trolls.

I thought this model was perfect for Throgg and I’m not a big fan of the GW model. I love the single big eye. I modified it a little. I added a crown from the old 5th ed Azhag model. I also gave him a club from an Ogre Tyrant. When using some Bluetack I tried pose him with that arm raised up, but I found it often got in the way of the model next to him. So when I glued him together I put that arm in a downward pose. That’s Ok, I like that he is leading the charge with his anchor in the air.

With all that Stupidity around the army needs a BSB. The other big guy was originally going to be the BSB, but I read some good advice that Scyla could really help a Troll Army. This model happened by accident just messing around with some bits. He slowly took shape and I am happy with the results. For the banner I thought what else could you expect from a troll. I usually play him as an Exalted Champion on a Palanquin.

After the nose job.

For a sorcerer I wanted a troll to convert but I couldn’t find a model I was happy with. In messing around with some bits I came up with this. I was inspired by the old Arcane Fulcrums. I wanted something that looked like a sorcerer on a tornado of souls. It was also a good use of all those clipped off troll hands. I was very pleased with how this turned out. I usually play him as a Nurgle Sorcerer on a Palanquin, but in the right situation he could also be used as a Tzeetch Disc.

For some added muscle the army needed a Shaggoth and a Chimera. I consider this one of my lucky finds. I snagged this complete METAL Shaggoth on Ebay for $15. He was only listed as “Chaos Monster”, a nice find. I came up with the color scheme on the Dragon Ogres first and then applied it to the big guy. I don't care for the GW Chimera model and I love the Jabberslyth, so he makes a good stand in. I think he fits in well with the trolls.

Almost forgot, the Dragon Ogres. The newer plastic models are nice but these old school metal models have so much character.

Last but not least are my old school orges. They go well with Thogg's army. I probably painted these guys over 20 years ago. They could use an update, but I'll keep them this way for nostalgia sake. I have a standard to add to them that has been waiting years for paint, maybe next month.

So that’s the army for now. I have a few more trolls in the bits bin that I may add in sometime and possibly another sorcerer. I like keeping the army as mostly monsters, so there will be no warriors in this army. Though from time to time some trolls may appear in my Orc army.

That Shoggoth was an awesome find. I love finding deals on eBay like that. You know someone probably wasn't using it if they just put it down as "Chaos monster". It's like your adopting the model. Feels great when you make them your own! Your army has a lot of character.

For your "Nurgle sorcerer on Palanquin" do you know what model the actual sorceror is? I bought some random minis and found the same model but cannot find the name of it anywhere. I love the look of it though.

I too love those kinda finds. From the seller's profile I think it was more of a thrift store/junk shop. So they probably had no clue what it was.

As for the sorcerer, I believe he is just a generic Chaos Sorcerer. I don't think it is aligned to any specific god.

I woke up early yesterday and I needed to paint something. I was going to take a break from Orcs for a while but, it hit me that they needed more variety.

So I present Azhag and his Orcish Air Force!

I really like the 6th ed Wyvern. They are just beefy looking.

Azhag was fun to paint. As with all GW models from this period they went a bit overboard with the skulls, 17 to be precise. I do like this model a lot. The only thing I don't care for is the weird little puppet tide to the banner pole, it is just really out of place on the model. If I had noticed it before I started painting I would have clipped it out. I left one banner off on purpose. 1) it looked too busy and 2) one less thing to paint.

Usually all my orcs have red eys. However I give all the orc casters glowy yellow eyes, as if the magic changes them, Azhag is no exception.

Continuing on, today I would like to share some pics of my Chaos Dwarfs. I love these guys, one of my favorite armies. To me they tick off all the boxes, everything there is to love about Dwarfs plus magic, monsters, and big guys. I started this army around the beginning of 7th. It’s all made out of the classic 5th ed big hat models (really the only way to go). In 8th I play them as the Legion of Azgorh, so the army is currently built to that.

The painted army so far.

Two units of 18 old blunderbusses. I still need to glue some shields on the back unit. I field these guys as Fireglaives since I like their rules better.

30 Infernal Guard with Great Weapons. These guys usually form the hearty center of my army.

Some Hobgobbos with bows. These guys were painted back in 7th when they could have units of 10. In the Legion of Azgorh they have to be 20+, so on the rare occasion that I field them I just combine them. Some day I’ll paint up some more to make two units in the same colors.

The Bull Centaurs, one of favorite units. These guys are a lot of fun to play. I need to paint up some more soon.

Here is a good shot of my war machines. So far, I have 2 Death Rockets and a Dreadquake painted. I finished the Ogre over the winter. It’s about time, the poor guys has been sitting around for a few years unpainted.

My BSB and Sorcerer Prophet. The Sorcerer is the old Astrogoth model. It’s a shame he didn’t get rules in the Legion of Azgorh, but if you play around with the magic items you can get pretty close to what he used to be.

Two Castellan (chaos dwarf heroes). The guy with the eye patch is an old unit champion, but I think the model has so much character that I elevated him to Hero leve.

Two Daemonsmith Sorcerers. The one on the left is converted out of a Bull Centaur standard and the one on the right is converted out of a Blunderbuss.

That gives me a lot to work with for most size games but when I get back around to them there are still plenty of Big Hats to work on in their biz bin. Some day when I get around to it, I would like to try a list with a Lamassu mounted Sorcerer leading and army of Bull Centaurs. I have another 30 some Bull Centaurs so, I think I can pull it off. Will it win, probably not, but it will be fun as HELL!

Thanks, no school like the old school I enjoy older models more than the current stuff. Older models have so much character, newer ones tend to feel very stale to me.

I love the Leion of Azgorh list, it's ver well rounded without being OP.

They are balanced by their point-inefficient infantry but their warmachines are brutal and the K'daii destroyer is arguably the best monster in the game. I would place them as a solid top tier army

I have always found Hobgobbos to be on the Meh side. Even in huge blocks they will eventually run. The K'daii is on bit he is a major points sink at 325. Like most monsters 1 cannonball can do him in. His attacks aren't magical so ethereal unit will hold him up all day. The Burning Bright rule can also be a pain if you are having an unlucky day. An nice thing about the army is it has the elements to support just about any play style.

If you pair them with high enough leadership they just don't move, I've had had blocks of them tie up saurus and temple guard, Khorne halberd warrriors, Swordmasters etc for 2-3 turns. Their artillery rivals vanilla dwarfs, especially the dreadquake mortar - a S5 large template is frankly ridiculous, it basically cripples any unit it hits. Iron Daemon's are brutal, relatively fast, easily able to pick off monsters with their multiple wound cannon and in a pinch serve as a decent combatants. Oh and I think their magic lore is savage, especially with this army. Ash storm basically guarantee's a dead unit

The movement effect is nasty for sure. I've actually shut down a Slann templestar blob from casting and moving multiple times. Plus planting flammable on a unit then nuking it with every fire spell, weapon and unit you can possibly muster is a lot of fun

I have always been a Von Carstein fan. As with most of my armies it will also be in mostly pre 7th edition models. I don't care for the look of GW products now and always preferred that Hammer horror movie look to undead.

From the cold land of Narggaroth, today we have Dark Elves. Way back in the day I wanted to have a Dark Elves army, it never really materialized though. A few years back I came across a good deal on a large 5th ed stash of Dark Elves and jumped on it. The 5th ed style was always my favorite so most of the models are from then.

What I have painted so far.

These spearmen are great. Being uniformed they look very menacing and paint up easily.

I have two units of these polystyrene crossbowmen. They aren't seen as much now days but still fun.

I love the Dark Rider models but didn't think the punck horses fit with them. I like the idea of Dark Elves using different giant lizards for different jobs and it give my Dark Elves reason to fight my son's Lizardmen. So in short for my army skinny lizard = horse.

So continuing on that we have fat lizards. Fat lizard = cold one. When I was gathering this army I didn't come across many deals on the 5th ed Cold One Knights, but loads of folks where unloading the 6th ed ones. It turned out well in the end because they help distinguish between the dark riders and Knights. I need to go back and hit them some Nuln Oil but they'll do for now.

Even though I mostly prefer the 5th ed models, there is something solid about these 6th ed Black Guard. These guys just scream ELITE to me. The champion is just a simple conversion to Mengel Manflayer. These guys are probably my favorite unit in the army.

Some Shades with Great Weapons, just the old Mengel's Manflayers.

My general is usually those great 5th edition Sorcerer and his apprentice is a High Elf defector.

The guy on the left is usually my model for Kouron of the Black Guard. He is the body of the Manflayer musician, the head of a 5th Cold One Knight General, and the arm from a 40k Incubi. The BSB on the right is just a 6th ed Executioner standard with a metal Sea Dragon Cloak added.

GW never made a Hydra model I liked. I found this guy at Michael's Craft Store among the toys. He is kn a slightly bigger base which is more to the opponent's advantage but I think it's worth it for a model I like. For the paint job I was inspired by Snake Mountain from the old He-Man cartoon.

Lastly this was a simple conversion for a Bolt Thrower crewman. The body is a 4th ed Dark Elf and the head from a 5th. He originally has a weird man bun thing, that looked ridiculous, much better with a helmet.

I have a lot more in the bits drawer for these guys so I will get back to them in time. I started collecting these guys when the 7th ed book came out, so I never bought or converted anything for Doom Fire Warlocks, Medusaa, or a Kharibdyss and probably never will. I don't care for what these bring to the army and they just aren't my cup of tea. I always liked to think of the Dark Elves more like a well drilled Roman Legion rather than a bunch of crazed half naked punkers. I have a unit of Witches and a Cauldron (both 5th) but they are low priority for me. I have a ton more of the metal spears and metal crossbowmen, a few chariots, and more knight. When I get back to these guys I will focus there.

Just a quick question though:

Today I share the pox ridden followers of Nurgle. This is a relatively new army for me. I started collecting them last year because I wanted to try something different from my other forces. I really do have fun with Deamons. I actually like the goofy randomness of their magic phase. I also love the fact that they can be used in Fantasy and 40K.

The backbone of the army is 105 Plaguebearers. I cam across some amazing deals and was happy to have all metal.

Ah Nurglings, will I ever need 20 bases of them, who knows? But it was fun to pain them and I plan to use them in 40K as well , so I can see a giant swarm of them holding up my son's Space Marines.

Beasts of Nurgle are just lots of fun. I like to have a bigger unit of them and have one or two on their own to use as redirects or go war machine hunting. If anyone else out there has put these old 5th ed ones together, you feel my pain. It's basically a metal triangle with nothing to hold it together, ugh.

The model on far left is actually an old Citadel Shambling Horde model from the 80s. He fits in nicely, but always reminds me of the Trash Heap from Fraggle Rock.

This is one of my favorite models in the army. It took a while to find this guy on the interweb in good shape. I actually had to order this one from France. It was worth it though because he was in pristine unpainted and unassembled condition when he arrived, and YES he's lead. I love the bike of Nurglings standing on each other.

For Heralds I wanted models that stood out from the regular plaguebearers. I notice in a lot of Deamon armies I see that the characters blend in too much with the basic troops. The model on the left is my BSB. I hadn't planned on having another on foot until I played a game where I turned my buddy's Firebelly into a Herald, so BOOM, I wanted to make sure I had a model to cover that the next time.

This is another of my favs. He is one of the few resin models in the army. He was an extra Great Unclean One that came in a batch I ordered online. I started converting him to be a Demon Prine, that's why he has the wings and armour, though most of the time I just use him as my Great Unclean One. The mace was an extra bit from an Ogre Tyrant and the helmet is some bits from a Stonehorn kit. Sculpting the eye was a lot of fun.

This big fellow is my Soul Grinder. Though I can't take all the credit for him. He cam partially assembled in a big lot of Beastmen I bought on Ebay. I think the person was trying to make a Jabberslyth. It was originally a metal Brain Bug model from the Starship Troopers line with some wings and legs added. I repositioned the legs glued the wings on him and sculpted the big eye in the center. I think he came out really cool. Even if a Soul Grinder can't fly I think the wings help him look menacing. Though with those stumpy back legs maybe he needs the wings just to get his basic movement.

So that's it for the Nurgle. I plan to add some Rot Flies to them at some point. I don't care for the GW design but I have some fun proxy models in mind for them. I occasionally field some Furies but I will save them for when I share my Khorne Daemons.

Stay safe everyone.
