I'm starting up a Sylvaneth warcry band and I have inspiration to do them in a Redwoods theme. Here's a picture of some:
I need some help figuring out what colors/paints I'll need. I'm hoping I can make the basics of this fairly simple to execute since I'm pretty new to painting and I want to get these on the table fairly quickly. Ideally this would be the big areas being a couple thin coats and a wash, or like a couple contrast layers or something. But I'm open to doing new stuff. So, the questions:
For the basic bark color, I need a reddish brown, that's not super dark. I'm most familiar with painting contrast so far so I was thinking maybe a red coat (flesh tearers? or maybe something non-contrast) then a coat of wyldwood on top? maybe the lighter cygor would work better? Or would this be better done with brown undercoat and a red wash?
What would be a good way of doing the "glowy" bits that are inset in some of the bark? I'm thinking about a red here, but I don't want it to end up looking too sinister.
Do you think that the little sprites should stick to a reddish, or should they be a contrasting color, maybe green or blue?
And last, I'm actually thinking golden/wheaten colors for the kurnoth/treerevenant weapons. Yay or nay? The other option I'd been thinking more of a flater green.
