Saw these for sale on the lanes armoury site and thought someone on Dakka would jump at these! If my birthday was any time soon I would be dropping hints all round. Doing Warhammer with the Romans

Co-incidentally it's my birthday today however I fear the wife may baulk at shelling out £300 for some Roman dice.

Happy birthday! Yes my wife would think I’m mad too. Still, perhaps worth an ask?

They're neat, but you can also buy really nice modern "bone" dice replicas for very cheap...and as cool a part of history as they'd be...that's a tough ask.

You lost me with replica. I would rather have something that looks new or a genuine relic. Anyway I’m not buying these sadly. I just like the connection with gamers of 2000 years ago. I wonder did they get irate about rules back then?

The big question is if they can deliver when making armor saves. If the dice are cold, it doesn’t mater how old and fancy they are!
Pretty neat.

I'd ask for a significant amount of documentation proving their authenticity, myself. They're in absurdly good shape for bone from a river-adjacent encampment, an oddly uniform in size at 6mm.
A quick check of other sites shows various dice at about a third to half of that price, too.

The lanes armoury are you one of the most reliable sellers of military related items in the world if not the most reliable. I’ve been collecting militaria for over 20 years and buying from the lanes would be considered the peak, the quality of their items is unsurpassed. Problem is they are well known for knowing how to charge. It would be extremely unlikely the dice are fake. Expensive yes fake no.

You cats in the UK are incredibly lucky. So much History. If I lived in the UK I'd be out metal detecting every chance I got. We just don't have that opportunity in Australia. There are houses, let alone castles, in the UK hundreds of years older than the entire History of settled Australia.

It's neat, but i would not want to buy them. I lose things. I break things. I should not be trusted with old things, much less 2000 year old things.

I prefer the Sumerian Dice or the Egyptian D-20. Roman dice are so modern.

I laughed when I saw some authentically ancient dice at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. They used the same layout for pips we use today.
Have to dig up that picture.

I want to see the 3 side. To see if the pips are arranged in a diagonal line or a triangle.
So far the orientation of pips is identical to a modern die.

A quick image search shows they all seem have three pips in a line, none in a triangle.
