Hi all,

It's been a very long time since I've been involved with miniatures. Played Space Crusade and Hero Quest as a kid and then got into Warhammer and had some small armies (Skaven and Space Marines from memory)

I decided to get the Know No Fear set in an effort to get my eldest son (8) off of the screen all the time. The effect of this was that I realised how much I enjoyed Warhammer and it's somewhat rekindled my interest in the whole thing. So far, we've decided that I am taking the space marines and he is going to have the death guard.

I am after a bit of advice about painting more than anything. I decided to dive into buying the contrast paints as I've heard it was easier and quicker and with limited time I thought it would be the best option. I also want my son to really enjoy it and not get too bogged down in the painting as he mainly just wants to "battle". I've so far painted a few of the space marines using the contrast paints and considering I haven't done any of this sort of thing for a very long time I am pretty happy with it.

However, I feel like the finish could be a lot better and wondered how people go about highlighting the models after using contrast paints or does that slightly defeat the object of using them in the first place?

Also, I have no idea where to start on bases. I was going to just get some varying grit/sand sizes and have a play about gluing and painting over them.

Any advice much appreciated.

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka
