Hi guys. I’m looking for a way to differentiate between my drone squads without having to paint them differently. I’ve seen some using stickers on their bases when they’re transparet, I have based my drones and don’t want to clutter the bases.

Just use quick and easy squad markings.
Something as small as a stripe on the drones antenna will work perfectly.

Maybe glue a small magnet under the base, paint some other magnets specific colors for specific drone types, then you can stick the magnets that you need to the base.

Some coloured tape on the flying stand pole thingy? Should work with whatever material you have used for the stand.

Hah... or even a pennant on the drone aerial

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Paint the side of the bases in different colors.

I think this is the way to go for me. I’ll probably use masking tape and some different colour sharpies. Thank you

I've seen plenty of people using coloured rubber bands aound the flight stands.

And very ugly. I hate this with a passion, especially when combined with 3 colors minimum paint jobs or grey plastic

What size are the bases on drones?
I use 25mm plastic counters that I blue tac to the bottom of my cultists to differentiate squads. Reasonably subtle and easily swapped around.

I've seen fluorescent rubber bands around pulse-weapon barrels and that looked good. Different colours for different squads, and it worked for Fire Warriors too. Mind you, I saw this on nice painted ones.

These rubber bands would Have to be very small to look good?

Rubber O-rings?

Maybe... most drones seem to have a halved circle "badge" somewhere. Embed a coloured magnet? (tho a paint spot seems simple enough)

That's what squad markings are for, like in real life ! Pretty easy to do and quite efficient. No need to buy extra stuff

Separate them by the height of the stand. There's at least 4 different height of stands available for flying stands.

Edit: Pictured, 3 different heights.

Rubber bands around the bases or a small sticker to the edge of the base, so that you can easily remove that after every game.
Anything that involves paint is a more permanent solution and it simply doesn't work with Tau, considering every unit can bring drones and you don't know how you'll bring them in your future lists.

The tau players at my store have their drones with different coloured antena ends, and the same colour used as borders for the bases.

If you have to kill, then kill in the best manner. If you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. Let one of you sharpen his knife so his animal feels no pain.

I think I’ve landed on using some page markers from post it and mark the flight stems with them.

The ones I have are only 4 different colours so I’ll write 1, 2, 3 and so on, on them.

Could use an acrylic marker on the side of the base. To change, go over with other color, or remove with black.

Really like this idea. Is there a spot to buy tokens in various colors?

Keeping the hobby side alive!

I never forget the Dakka unit scale is binary: Units are either OP or Garbage.

I got mine from Amazon I think. In the UK we tend to call them counters and kids use them in primary school etc. Try Amazon, or school supply stores. Think you tend to call them chips in the US?
These are 100 for £5, sure you can find something similar in the US:

Why not just paint part of the antenna, of use different transfers? The same as differentiating any other squad in the game from one another.
