Been on my mind the last few days, thought it might be a bit of a long shot but there is a chance some one here on Dakka might know what this is and prove I've not got a twisted mixed up memory from my youth.

Trying to track down an old game from my teens, I played it a lot with a pal in secondary school so this would be late 80s, but I have a strong feeling it was his dad's game so might be a lot older, possibly 70s or even 60s.

It was a tank based game. It was played on a coloured map that came in the box, I think with some kind of square marking system, may not have been squares, I can't recall the rules or how it was played, I think dice were involved, not sure what type. The key feature I recall however is that the pieces each player used were red and blue, and they were on flat see-through counters, so small crudely drawn red and blue tanks, there might have been other units I have a feeling there was a static antic tank gun, can't recall if it could move though, but it was very stark as you had this lovely coloured board and they'd made the counters see-through other than the tank drawing on the counter but they were bold red and blue outlines. So it was supposed to look like the tanks moving around on the well drawn map not the counter, but they didn't look like real tanks just these odd little coloured outlines.

Not a lot to go on, and tbh I fear someone is only going to know this if they have owned it, I've done a number of searches asked other gamers, Tank Attack by MB is often brought up but those had 3D models, a game by Avalon Hill from their early years that has the map but the counters are not see though and much more defined drawings on them, but can't find anything that matches up with those clear counters with the basic red/blue tank pic on them.

Anyone out there ever encountered such a thing?

edit - oh and it was set in WW2, not sci-fi at all.
