For the interested, on this date in 1968 according to my media feed, the movie 2001 premiered, changing SF forever, blowing minds and as I have heard triggering a a spike in sales of LSD.

Anyone want to take about this movie? I think it never got the credit it deserved for inspiring computer display technology. At the time it was made there were hardly any computer graphics at all, let alone color graphics. In the 70's when technology made graphic displays feasible a lot of engineers wondered how to do it the best way and those that had seen 2001 said "Hey, how about we do it like that?"

Today a lot of people don't get that the 'graphics' seen in 2001 were hand drawn animation filed and rear projected on the display screens.

It also started the belief that a video screen would project clear images on faces of people watching it.
