Hey everyone, I've finally gotten around to posting some of my armies. The goal of this was always to create 3000 points minimum of each army, and possibly more of certain favourite armies like Dark Elves and High Elves etc. I've been busy building and painting even after the End Times trying to keep this Fantasy world alive, and now that GW has announced that Fantasy will be returning in some capacity I don't feel as pressured to obsessively horde and purchase any Fantasy models I can get a hold of.
So far I have 3000 points of Bretonnia, Vampire Counts, Dark Elves, High Elves and Chaos Warriors. I have 3000 points of Wood Elves currently being worked on between my 40K projects, and 3000 points of Empire assembled but unpainted.
I'm starting with Bretonnia and Vampires because they match my fall themed gaming table. When I get around to doing my winter themed table, i'll do some photos of my Dark Elves and Warriors of Chaos.
The Army of the Midnight Aristocracy:
I've always been a fan of the Blood Dragons, although Vlad Von Carstein is probably my favourite Fantasy character, he's always so classy. Either way, I've created my own Vampire army but I've thrown in a couple characters here and there just for fun.
Lore wise the army is lead by a Vampiric Elf of all things, and ex-Asrai by the name of Illsandor who received the blood kiss from one of the Red Duke's generals after falling in single combat during a failed campaign into the forest of Athel Loren. He maintains his eternal vigil in a formidable castle on the coast of Mousillon, where he has amassed a large army of vampiric thralls and the undead.

The Realm of Duke Rosslyn:
Lore wise, House Rosslyn presides over a dukedom in close to the northern boarder of Quenelles which brings them into conflict with the Wood Elves quite frequently. Duke Jarod Du Rosslyn is known by his people as fair and just. He is known for his gregarious personality and fearsome skill with the sword. Though some nobility see him as being overly sympathetic to the peasantry, Duke Jarod knows that the love of the people will carry him further than the fear of oppression.

I like how you made your knights uniform. The carapaces are beautiful.
The sword on the Lord is very nice. Where is it from?

Thanks everyone.
The Sword on the Bret Lord is just from the Greatswords box. Simple conversion with a Space Marine purity seal glued on.
Actually, I bought up all the Bretonian stuff as it was going on last chance to buy so I didn't get a chance to purchase Grail Knights so all my Grail Knights are just Realm knights with purity seals glued on.

Absolutely fantastic work, beautiful armies and scenery. A very inspirational thread. I too cannot wait (as much as I may have to) for the old world to return. I'm hoping for some minor factions to emerge - Vampire Coast, Norsca and Cathay come to mind, its looking good with Kislev on the way. Even if the concepts GW have submitted do sound god awful

That's a busy graveyard. Great collection, mate.
I was one of the hoarders you mentioned when the Old World blew up. As soon as the dire news reached me, I bought all Dark Elf boxes which I wanted for my collection.
Don't trust GW with their claim to visit the Old World again. Why? Well, those new models will either differ in size or aesthetic and won't mesh well with your old minis.

It's possible that they won't for sure.
However, I feel like GW has seen that there is a niche for this game and are looking to keep some of the old guard happy with the continuation of the game we all love. That includes keeping the game more or less with the same aesthetic and size so we can all keep purchasing more models.

Aside from the Kislev war women with blades made of ice which make no sense in lore

I assume he is referencing to the fact that the Old World is based in a rather low-fantasy environment which limits the abundance of magic and magic items.
This means that you shouldn't have units running around with conjured weapons. Even if you take this for granted there are still exceptions to the rule like the magic weapons of the chaos knights and the grave guard.
Another point of critique that I read about is that they could port over the aesthetic from AoS to the new Old World which would be a disaster.
What's my take on this? Well, I finished my collections several years ago and don't have to worry about nonsensical new stuff. I hope that they bring back iconic new models for the franchise like they did in 40K with Marbo. So what about for example a new Skarsnik & Gobbla? Or a new Kemmler? That would be great.

I don't disagree that WHF is rooted low fantasy and should definitely stay that way. I just don't think Ice Weapons are necessarily lore breaking or out of the scope of the warhammer world.

They are ice witches, named the ice guard who wield weapons made of ice and serve an ice queen who lives in an ice palace. You seeing a theme here? GW really ramming it down your throat for good measure. It's reminiscent of the overwolf nonsense they inflicted upon the space wolves and completely add odds with the relative subtlety and depth of the old setting. Also in Kislevite lore women are forbidden from positions of power and any female magic users are exposed to die at birth, thats what makes the Tzarina so exceptional, she is a powerful, strong queen in a rigid, well defined patriarchy. The Tzarina's bodyguards used to be huge musclebound men bred especially for the role, they had huge twin blades sheathed within the skin of their own backs and were terrifying to behold - now that would be awesome. Why GW felt the need to retcon this and introduce something frankly baffling and lore contradicting in their place is a mystery to me. It doesn't bode well so far. Also i don't like their aesthetic, it looks cool but its not Kislev, it looks like an ice version of what Araby should be. I just really hope they dont screw up the winged lancers

That's straight from GW during 6th edition via White Dwarf. It is literally meant to be all things for everyone. If you view it as low fantasy, that's how you view it, but just like D&D it's never exclusively been one type of fantasy.

I never suggested that was not a part of the fluff, I feel that it is becoming ALL that Kislev is now. The overice effect

I feel that's not something we can determine from a single unit that is specifically pointed out in their introduction as being rare and singular in purpose.

Hmm actually according to the lore (mostly WFRP) I have read ALL male magic users are tracked down and killed by the state leaving it to the Wise Women and Ice Witches to be the magic users of Kislev and who even have special dispensation to practice their magic in the Empire. They also form a powerful cabal in the nation almost like the Lahmian Sisterhood but much more overt
Cna you tell me where the bit about female mages being killed is from? Drop me a PM if you can - much appreciated
Going back to the great looking conversions - I have a Elf Swain in my Lahmian led VC army with the Black Knights being once proud Silver helms - really enjoy seeing similar conversions - the undead have such a rich vein of possibilities
Look forward to more

I finally got around to getting photos of my Dark Elves.
These guys are my ultimate favourite army, and were my first fantasy army when I started all the way back in 6th edition. I've basically built my own Malekith, Morathi and Malus Darkblade. I put a lot of effort into this army, and actually I have roughly 9000 points more of Dark Elves sitting in a box ready to be painted one day. I might make that it's own blog.
So here he is, the Witch King of Naggaroth himself:
