makes me want some historical human minis for Benin even more
i was impressed when i learnt of these cultures, i mean, all i knew (because didnt invested time in africa, searching for inspirations) was the typical nubians and moors, but when i started searching, was shocked how complex LONGLASTING (Benin kingdom lasted about 6 CENTURIES from 1200 to 1800) , they had crazy cities, standarised army composion.
I've cleaned up a bunch of off topic tangent posts and I'll open this back up for discussion. I didn't issue any warnings, but I will if this thread gets dragged off to weird places again, if anyone has any questions, feel free to PM me, thanks!

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.
New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights! The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.
There were a number of comments there that weren't really political and that contributed to the conversation w/ what I felt were pretty civil discussions of information... I don't know if something erupted overnight, but I'm sorry to see some of those notes disappear.
In all my 30 odd years of gaming, those are the coolest things I have ever seen. I think I'll be looking into getting an Orc army if these for Kings of War.
The objective of the game is to win. The point of the game is to have fun. The two should never be confused.

Yes, the mod told me PM. There was some cultural-related questioning. i totally understand it and all i can say is that "wait", i started previous month with french/breton dwarfs. I am all about doing non canon stuff, but as i told the Mod , if i come here and show "high orcs" (english orc) who would get them? not as main faction but maybe as mercenaries because of the "no way that place ("high "X"") could be taken by muscled and big fangs creatures".
However that doesnt mean that there will be not europeans "non humans-like", it means "Just give me time", first i have to do things closer to the "expected" aesthetic. Then i will start with yet lesser canonic mixes of cultures and fantasy races.
There is another point (for those political related comments) that i think is conditionating these kind of debates: eurocentrism in design is not only in the fact of making dwarfs-human-elves european, and the rest orcs, ogres, rats, lizards etc etc, it also is in the cultural belief that the only source of civilization is in europe, thus, considering making orcs African as a "cliche" in terms of making them another look, but SAVAGE. And that is just some thinking carried from past centuries (when explorers that came back to their countries claimed seing GIANTS, CANNIBALS, people with fangs dancing around the fireplace) to the present days and reinforced (without bad intention) by movies, novels, 2d art, etc. So i would like to share that my POV is that i DONT believe that, since i have read a lot of history in general, and with this specefici subject (african orcs) i choosed benin because itthey were not "tribal savages", to the contrary, they had quite a huge kindgom, trully organized military forces, lots of commerce , diplomacy, art and of course religion. All those items allowed them to exist more than 6 centuries (as empire).
My point: i made them considering that benin/west african cutlures were actually very civilised, complex. I have actually made aztec elfs, indu humans, asirian elves, mongol orcs, arab dwarfs, so like i said : just give me time and you will see cool original content

Glad you like them! i was impressed by the looks and organization of the military of Benin when looking for references, that sold me!

As an extra here you can see a Mongol Orc Ambassador (or royal guard) i made as sample for when i make the full faction.
Love to see a new take on fantasy tropes! Best of luck with the Patreon effort and keep up the unique work!

I think you’re doing great work. I particularly like that you’re doing enough different poses to make a unit for wargaming because a lot of creators only do a few sculpts more suited for skirmish or rpg.

exactly!, my patreon is aimed to "rank & file" instead of monster and characters pakcs because there are 1 trillon of these patreons.. and because i love doing it, i love it so much that from the 10 minis (super modular)a month i originally planed to do,i am doing about 35 models!!!! (less modular, more beautifull) haha!

Now we need big guys in fish and dragon armor!
haha yes, those are from 16-17 century but its almost the same.
i think i would enjoy making demons with a mix of berserk and El bosco (15th century crazy painter). I may make them after having couple more factions in this line/world

My one request would be to not be too constrained by ranking up for old school warhammer on small bases. I’d like to see you take advantage of how you can pose on a round base - look at old chaos warriors vs new chaos warriors for instance and how much better the new ones are. Personally I would be using your models for games like Saga with about 70 models per side but all individually based. Maybe split waists or ball joint arms could be a compromise?

Hello! well, there are units that could have more open, dynamic poses, and othersthat dont, speaking in relation to their roles. So for instnace a WARRIOR, is actually an open formation individual that goesto battle with other similars, kinda skimirhers. But a soldier ,also with heavy armor, probably is going in close formation, with polearms , not open or super dinamicbecause that would make that spot in the froamtion easier to break. You can imagine hoplites, the average man at arms in late middle ages, roman legions.. as example of med/heavy units that needed close formations.
in the other hand, units like "rodeleros"(spanish sowrdmen) or landsknecht, yes, they were more open formations as they role was to break enemy formations so that fellow compainons holding hte line with the close formations could get into that breach.
As you can see with those ffew examples, soldiers with large 2 handed weapons better go in close formations.. other with swords and axes, amces, warhammers, yeah! go rampage on the enemy! and htose will have more versatile poses, and will fit better a game with round bases.

The increase in size of minis combined with acrobatic poses has made it ever more difficult for those of us still using square based Oldhammer style units.
Just my opinion, but I like them as is.

Some quick photos. These guys will fit in great with rank and file models, oldhammer, historicals, and all sorts of RPG purposes.
Plus they're all pretty modular if you want to fiddle with those kinds of settings.
L to R- Mantic, Peculiar Companions, Oathmark/Frostgrave, GW
L to R- Reaper, Oathmark, Peculiar Companions, Mantic, Peculiar Companions
L to R- GW, Shieldwof, Peculiar Companions, GW, Impact/ Heartbreaker
I didn't adjust any sizes or settings either, and as is I think they fit in pretty good with both old and new models!
Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!
