Yeah, Necrons are getting new models so they are the face of 9th edition.
Also Sisters are the face of 9th edition too!!!

Eh. The king is such a late addition to the fluff, its hard to care. But if it means a new codex to fix the the glaring problems of 8th edition necrons, sure, fine.
Bring some durability back to an army that got hit by the nerf hammer, just in time for the most lethal edition ever.

Perhaps Necrons are the big bad going into the new edition, and the last PA is setting them up as the other side of a new starter box. That's why they haven't been unveiled until they're ready to show 9E.
I bet that video was going to be the final reveal at Adepticon, with the next big preview being the one we're getting May 23rd. It also seems like GW are pushing forward to get their release schedule back on track before the end of their fiscal year next month.

Brace for flayed ones and a lord both of which are overpriced.
It's nice for Necron players to get something but personally I suspect it'll all go straight into the "ignore this because it's dumb" pile for me unless they start retconning crons again. Then we can have newcrons, oldcrons and old oldcrons.

He'll be a LOW, primarch sized, can be taken by all dinasties.
Pretty sure we'll see the muscle necrons as a model too.
And almost certanly a new codex. Necrons need it as much as Death guard. Maybe a little less because at least they have something that can be called a competitive list but still.... they need help.

So he'll be on a 60mm base like Guilliman...

Very cool, hopefully this would be enough to dust off my Necron army, which sadly hasn't seen much play the last year. I hope he comes together with a Necrons 2.0 codex, they need it.

Perhaps something more like mini diorama, like the ossiarch bone king for AoS, or SoBs the triumph of st katherine. Seems like the new cool.
Hold on, summer of mini diorama. Reincarnated Tau space pope diorama coming up!
Oh god I hope it isn't another mini diorama. That is a trend I am not a fan of. I wouldn't mind him being atop a floating Dais like Vect, but some group on a hunk of masonry standing around would be bad.
I actually would like a diorama type model. I know people aren’t all fans of them and I understand why, but the Ossiarch Mortarch and the Triumph of St Katherine are some of my favourite models of recent years.

Now I’m sad Calgar just got a basic primaris upgrade. They could have brought back his RT model sitting on a throne!
(just kidding, that would be silly, like most of these dioramas)

I love the way they look, I just feel they are out of place on the battlefield. No slights against the models themselves, which are spectacular.

I'll kind of explain myself better, because I actually agree with you in a vacuum, I just think they make for bad game pieces. I would have no issue him and his retinue being a box with an optional diorama base for painters to tack them all on. I would like if they were separate though.
I also don't really picture a Necron supreme phaeron walking around, hence the Dais being mentioned by me.

I can understand wanting to get rid of the not-so-finecast, but what's wrong with the green rods? I've always thought they looked kinda cool.
Two points. First is that not all of the units that should have the green rods have them. Second and more importantly, not all Necrons use green rods (e.g., the Mephrit Dynasty uses orange instead of green).

That seems like a good middle ground for models like that. Separate bases that slot into a diorama base.
I think a dais is fairly likely seeing as he was on a vehicle in the trailer.
