I am not sure if this belongs here, so MOD please move this or delete it as necessary.
On my way to take a break, I saw an email from GW with the subject line "For One Week Only!"
Fan that I am, I followed the link to see a book deal, to "relive" the destruction of the Old World.
I thought about it, and here am posting a simple poll to gauge interest in this history. I figure if many people are into the book deal, then many people are interested in how AoS begins. Conversely, if many people are NOT interested in this book deal, then (maybe) this means that we might expect the return of the Old World to be met with more enthusiasm, instead.
So, simple poll, with some discussion about why you answered one way or the other, and perhaps what you expect from the franchise(s) going forward and how this will play out in your own community or abroad, now or in the future.

I won't buy it because I already bought all of them. If you're not too precious about the lore, they are a fun read with a lot of good art.

Everything I heard about them is they were a quick and sloppy attempt to put a fluff bandaid over a business decision.
Hard pass.

If I got them I'd be dipping in and out rather than reading cover to cover and I find I never do that with digital stuff (plus I've got the nurgle volume already)

No, because I have little interest in the Black Library side of the hobby. I might give one of the audio dramas a go( Titan's Bane sounds like Storyteller with tanks ) but thats about it...

This is me as well. Lore/art books are best in physical form. Digital is great for cover to cover reading, but I vastly prefer physical material for stuff that you dip in and out of. The price is also quite high and whilst I'd like to own them for the art, I'm of a mind that its just too much for me to justify right now. Esp as I'm wiating on the next reprints of Inferno to appear at any moment which could be anywhere from £25 to £50

Great point on the value of physical print, both for being able to come back to a physical place in a physical book after some time away, which is intuitively easier to engage with than the digital form that has no such sense of position, and rather everything shows up in the same place, and on the presentation of the art as a sort of coffeetable artefact, as a piece of conceptual furniture so to speak.

No, as while I LOVE some of.the models AoS have been giving us (warcry and new elves in particular) the fluff for.me is still pretty bad, and I truly disdain both stormcast and the bone golems. (I know and am fine with other people living them, but for myself I dislike them both)

Never got the impression they were well enough written to be enjoyed as a story - interesting as a novely when the events unfolded, but of limited value afterwards.
The ending had been decided upon, so the authors were just tasked with finding some way of getting there, with roles or cameos for any known character they could rememember existing in the setting. Not the greatest recipe for an intriguing storyline. So in short, no.

We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

That's kinda how I felt about the whole end times thing. There was a lot of potential in ending the old world and Archaon winning, as a story, but the way they went about it felt really forced and silly.

I LIKED the Old World.
That sounds about right.
I tried to read the Black Library End Times novels, but they felt forced and very “business decision”-like. Once Karl Franz died (apparently) like a chump and Nurgle forces waltzed through everything, I was out. The Old World didn’t work that way, and I didn’t want to remember it that way.
Related note: Is the Archaon duology of novels tied into End Times? Or can I enjoy it more as a prelude to Storm of Chaos?

I have to say that I am not surprised by the poll results so far. I wonder if people would respond similarly to a book deal including say all of the WFB main rule books... those were also beautiful books imho, and better in physical form, so maybe also such a deal would be met with a similar reaction.

The 7E Collectors edition rulebook is a masterpiece work of art, I keep it around just because it's so cool, even though I picked it up well into 8th

I think another part of the nay side is that this is a short term sale. If they were under the £10bracket that's well into very casual change for most wargamers; a value that they can throw at something non-essential on a spur of the moment kind of thing. Once you start talking about £30 and higher values your'e into quite significant hobby money. At that point people are more discerning on what they spend on.
It's the same issue when GW does one or two week "print on demand" or "cast on demand" or short term art books and the like. The price is often steep, but its more the fact that they often come out of the blue without much advanced warning. You don't get 2 months to self justify the cost and save up the money. You get a week or two to suddenly find the money and justify it all in one go. That can often mean that something you've been saving up for and already justified has to take a back seat; or that you've just spent the money that very day or week before the surprise appears.

The End Times "story" was basically a bloated mess that was far too sprawling to accomplish anything satisfying for the reader. I think the first book was pretty decent (grading on the regular curve of GW's fiction) but they rapidly went downhill and just became more and more rushed and sloppy as time went on. I don't think the deal is worth it.
