Hi, DakkaDakka'ers

I'm thinking of coming back to '40K since leaving the game in 2013/14

Everything appears to be on fire.

Bob Guilliman is awake, Cadia's dead, my Guard are now Astra Militarum, and God knows what's happened to WFB.

So, having not played since 2013/4, I assume things have changed. Can I still use all my Cadian miniatures?

I hear on the grapevine that a new rule book is out soon, be this true? I'll wait and get that before starting again if that's the case.

They advanced the storyline

Guard are still Guard, and refered to as such in the Lore as often as not.

yeah looks like 8.5 smae as they did with Age of Sigmar - rules rebalance and fixing bits and pieces ready for new wave of codexes

You can still use Cadian minitures because many words were colonised by Cadian refugees after it's destruction and they still identify as Cadian. Also, many other planets use Cadian pattern armour. Even though Creed is MIA in the story, he's still playable on the table top. Ironically, Cadian are still the most supported line by Geedubs despite their planet going boom while other regiments like Tallarn, Mordia and Vostroya aren't.

No, not today. Coming soon. Today was just the announcement that the new edition is coming.

The biggest change to Guard minis if you last played in 2014 is that the simplified vehicle rules no longer make you fire either your Leman Russ' main guns or its other guns, so sponsons have become nigh-mandatory instead of sort of a waste. But it may be worth magnetizing them in case GW changes their mind and makes them pointless again.

Just saw the announcement trailer for the new rules.

Very cool.

I never get tired of seeing Guards(wo)men get slaughtered

I wonder if this'll mean future female guard minis. Good to see the Battle Sisters kicking bum. They're surely overdue a mini redesign by now.

So, have these Primaris (spelling?) Astartes completely replaced the normal space marine?

Not yet, GW got a lot of pushback when they replaced Fantasy with Age of Sigmar so they're doing more of a slow boil with space marines.

So old marines still exist, but as GW fills up all the niches with new Primaris stuff I expect the old units will disappear.

I prefer to buy from miniature manufacturers that *don't* support the overthrow of democracy.

keep in mind that's just guesswork, it's also possiable GW'll continue to double dip as long as old marines are commerically viable. and thus only retire the old stuff when/if people no longer buy em

Indeed. The world is on fire, and the only thing I can think to cure it is a large application of las.

To be honest the only reason I stopped was because it was getting too hard to enjoy it with the people I played with. I was the only one that read the rules or his Codex; they used to just slap every weapon they could in a squad, they never measured properly and when you call them on it you're the dick, ya know. Why am I bothering?

Hoping this'll be a good time to restart
