The regular kill teams are 22x30 boards. New 2000 points 9th edition need 44x60. That would be 4 kill team boards, right? I have one of those boards. I would need 4 to make a full 2000 point game, right?

I am a dyslectic, so bear with me.

Yes. Kill Team boards are 22"x30", so all the minimum board sizes are the sizes of multiples of Kill Team boards.

Thanks.

Some quick googling shows I might be better off with some form of battle map for the wallet.

Probably, unless they release more Kill Zone boxes or the boards separately for a reasonable prince.

I was going to suggest the Moon Base Klaisus box, but it says it's 5'5" × 3'7" which is 65 x 43 - so the wrong size.

These are the minimum sizes.

Yeah, I notised that as well. If I am spending money on it I can at the very least get one that fits.

6x4 mats are all over the place, and you can use them as-is, tape them off to make the new recommended size, or cut them down as you prefer.

Eventually the minimum will become standard. Tournaments are already doing it. Some mat making companies have already started making smaller mats to fit the recommended standard minimum size.

If you don't think this is happening and what GW expected/wanted/intended, then I still have those lovely bridges up for sale.

And that is their choice as third party producers/affiliates.

If you want to blame anyone for "forcing" people to change sizes, blame them. They have no reason to cut down a 6'x4' board when it fits around the minimum size just fine. Hold the TOs to account for their completely self-imposed changes.

Bridges?

You can't still plug in an old headphone jack. You can still play on a 6'x4'.
Your analogy is more like "this change of board size is like adding bluetooth for wireless earphones" - you can still do all the old ones, but there will also be people doing the new stuff.

Considering how pretty much every playtester keeps repeating how important the smaller tables for balance are, 6x4 boards are probably going to die out.

A year from now, "you should be playing on a smaller table" will be common advice whenever someone complains about shooting being too powerful, similar to "you should play with more terrain".

But it is not the way GW tested the game to be optimal though. that is like saying that in 8th, if you want you can play 500pts games. And it is true you can do that, but those games are not going to be very fun. Saying that it is a 3ed party thing that tables are 6x4 is a stranger counter argument too. From what I have been told the tables were that size for multiple editions. GW being suprised that people may not want to change the size of tables is a bit too faced. Though GW does seem to be suprised by many things including their own rules being put to use by players other then their play testers.

Less back pain from reaching into the middle of a table is all it needs to convince me of playing on the new table sizes

If people are getting that hung up about a recommended size, just buy some good quality masking tape and tape off the area. You've now got a nice, narrow margin to precariously balance your dead pile of OOP metal models. Or put your can of coke/beer on.

While I'm not one of the people who's all "GW NEVER PLAYTEST!", a lot of the people complaining about this are the same people who complain about GW's "playtesting".

I'll be honest, I personally don't think the size difference will be that bad. And, if it is? You can always mark out the play area on a 6x4.

A year from now, "you should be playing on a smaller table" will be common advice whenever someone complains about shooting being too powerful, similar to "you should play with more terrain".
Perhaps - but it's easier to just mark off table areas than add terrain you might not have. People don't need to hack apart their old tables.

But it is not the way GW tested the game to be optimal though.
Again - do you believe that you trust GW's "optimisation"? Not saying that *I* believe GW are as incapable as many people do, but I'm asking you.
that is like saying that in 8th, if you want you can play 500pts games. And it is true you can do that, but those games are not going to be very fun.
Some of my favourite games in 8th were 500 points/25PL. So, yeah, absolutely not seeing your point here.
Saying that it is a 3ed party thing that tables are 6x4 is a stranger counter argument too.
I've never said that?
From what I have been told the tables were that size for multiple editions. GW being suprised that people may not want to change the size of tables is a bit too faced.
GW haven't asked anyone to change their table size. It's the push from TOURNAMENT players who see "minimum" as "only appropriate option" that's leading to more people change their table size. GW have explicitly said that you don't have to change table size, so it's not two-faced.
Though GW does seem to be suprised by many things including their own rules being put to use by players other then their play testers.
It's not hard to see that, considering that GW staff tend to be very casual and "un-optimised" - there are things that some players do that they'd never consider doing. Spamming isn't really a word in their vocabulary, because they don't really consider spamming their own armies.

You're right that it will become standard in public play- in stores and tournaments. You're also right that it's happening already.

But I think the disconnect in this argument is similar to the disconnect in many; there are way more home/ garage hammer players than Dakka gives credit for, and to that crew, this change means nothing. Nothing that happens in tournaments and stores affects us. Since we only play with friends on 6 x 4 boards some of us created in the 80's, we're not even going to notice.

But again, I agree; if garage hammer is not your game, this is a bit of a big deal.

I suspect the 40ks at my club will stick with 6x4 or 4x3 due to the tables we have access to are 6x2 or 3x2 and our mats are grassy textured tablecloths around 8x10ish the truely dedicated might spring for their own mandatory fun mats

Well that is good for people in countries where games are being played at homes, or who have , for what ever reasons, underground garages where no one calls police or security on you, if you stay for too long. It sound bad for places where playing at stores is what the majority of people do. And I think that the number of people who can buy a flat just to play table top games is rather low, even in countries that do not suffer from permanent lack of housing since WWII.

99% of my games, a lot of the board goes unused anyway. I’m all for the size change, as 6x4 feet always seemed a little too big to me

Hopefully this means there will be more killzone releases as well. GW terrain is expensive, but those boxes were okay value.

The stores aren't being forced to change though. If your local store changes their table size, that was their choice, not someone from GW coming round and demanding it.

If tournaments and stores change their sizes, that was *their* choice.

Yeah, I'd love more killzones to be released - another sector mechanicus would be nice.
