Hello Dakka!

I am very excited to announce the launch of a new company, a new model line, and a new sci-fi setting!

Seedy Tea Publishing is pleased to present Simulacrum Protocol - a 32mm resin model range depicting human-controlled vehicles clashing against AI-operated drones.

Humanity is extinct. Wiped out by wars, diseases, and uncountable natural disasters. Upon reaching inevitable extermination testing conditions are reset and the experiment begins anew. Each attempt is dictated by the Simulacrum Protocol: a hypothesis regarding humanity's worth dictating the obstacles faced to prove the species' value. Successes and failures coalesce as data points and endlessly the trial grinds on. In such a state, resurgent consciousnesses cling to mortal bodies testing inscrutable theories of humankind's unseen masters.

With each new Simulacrum Protocol human beings are evaluated - probed for flaws and refined through a grueling process of controlled annihilation. Success may ensure survival of the species and humanity's inclusion in a galactic whole. Failure is a road repeatedly traveled and perhaps a foregone conclusion.

The Simulacrum Protocol universe is set in an alien future. In one of the endless test-realities in which humanity exists, biological life is under attack: Artificial Intelligence is rampantly surging across the planet, absorbing all organic human communities in its path. Out of fear some communities aligned with the AI, negotiating their gradual assimilation while others defiantly fight back. Humanity's fate now lies in the resolve of brave vehicle crews risking their lives in a desperate war against unrelenting machines.

Spoiler:

Gaia First! is one of many human-led communities challenging Shangri-LA's violent expansion, and is the focus of the initial release of models.

Filled with volunteers from communities all across the continent, Gaia First! has one goal: stopping Shangri-LA from eradicating all life on the planet. Equipped with a motley mix of out-dated technologies grafted with bleeding edge weaponry, the crews of Gaia First! courageously throw themselves into the maw of Shangri-LA's sophisticated war machines.

Who am I? A long-time fan of tabletop miniature games and avid miniature collector, who chose the magical year of 2020 to start a miniature-based business! I guess I like a challenge?

More seriously, I have been playing miniature games since I was a child, and love miniatures both as a hobby and an art medium. I have previously published within the tabletop industry, working with Hyacinth Games as a writer and editor and now I am looking to tell new stories with Seedy Tea Publishing.

Going forward I hope to expand the SImulacrum Protocol model range to include other factions in the setting - starting with the unfeeling Shangrilese AI constructs known as Centaurs.

This model is a prototype, and the first fully 3D sculpted miniature in Seedy Tea Publishing's catalog. 3D printing is an exciting new method for creating models and Seedy Tea Publishing is working with some very talented artists in this new medium.

The Centaur is shown with some Games Workshop models to give a sense of scale. Centaurs are towering avatars of destruction - roaming the dead highways leading into and out of Shangri-LA looking for prey.

Spoiler:

And of course scale shots with some of the other models in the SP range:

Also, links added. Dakka didn't like me adding links to my initial post.

Thanks!

I have been lucky to work with some very talented artists and one of the primary goals when creating these units was to retain as much realism as possible in terms of how things mechanically functioned. There is certainly still a lot of "it's the future, it just works" hand waving, but generally we've been trying to have things make sense whenever possible.

If anyone would like to see one of Seedy Tea's models in action Holt Miniature Painting was great enough to make an assembly and painting YouTube video where he tackles the Badger scout tank.

Happy Friday!

I am happy to announce the addition of the Moose Battle Wagon to the Simulacrum Protocol line of models.

Also, free domestic shipping on orders of $100 or more, and for non-US buyers free shipping unlocks with purchases of $150 or more!

The Moose Battle Wagon began its career as a mobile science research lab. Initially designed by Sheldon Specialty Vehicles as a custom order meant to operate in extreme hazardous environments – specifically the irradiated caldera of the Maw. The original specifications called for a spacious, heavily reinforced compartment on a drivetrain powerful and rugged enough to traverse broken, uneven ground.

The armored compartment could fit up to five crew stations, with a sixth crew member located in the vehicle’s front cabin to drive the Moose. While the original configuration filled the main compartment with scanning equipment, analysis chambers, and a single external prehensile robotic arm for collecting samples, when the vehicle went into regular production the space was left modular to accommodate a wide variety of operating needs.

Sheldon Specialty Vehicles began regular production on the Moose in 2047 and the first two runs were entirely commissioned by Sapphire Earthworks for mining and large-scale excavation. This design featured a front dozer blade while the main compartment contained two prehensile arms with modular attachment heads for drills, scoops, and trenching tools. Dubbed the A variant and shipped to Sapphire’s mining operations across the continent, the Moose performed well in diverse terrain and feedback from operating crews enabled Sheldon Specialty Vehicles to continue refining the design over decades of regular production.

Gaia First! primarily uses a Moose configuration known as the “Battle Wagon” which removes the two robotic arms and replaces them with heavy weapon mountings while a ram bar substitutes for the dozer blade. The already fortified compartment and front cab are further reinforced with depleted uranium layered ceramic plates. Combined with the chassis’ standard aerogel insulation makes the Battle Wagon an extremely resilient weapons platform for Gaia First! spearheads into Shangrilese territory.

The venerable Centaur is one of the more commonly encountered defense unmanned security vehicles tasked with patrolling the borders of Shangri-LA. Outfitted with both a rapid-fire heavy laser and meter-long tungsten blades on either arm, the Centaur is a swift and extremely deadly combatant which has claimed the lives of hundreds of Gaia First! vehicle crews. It is unsurprising that Moose escorts are the most requested weapons platform among Gaia First! raiding parties. Able to shrug off multiple direct hits from a Centaur’s laser and resist killing blows from the arm-mounted blades, the hardy frame of the Moose provides the crew inside enough time to bring the vehicle’s tremendous weapons into play.

Battle Wagons have two primary weapon ports located on either side of the driver’s cabin. The large footprint left behind from the original design’s and A variant’s robotic arms allows for otherwise cumbersome weapons to function well in the main compartment. Weapon loadouts on Moose are dependent on both the availability of weapons and the preferences of crews. Fusion cannons and rapid-fire 40mm grenade launchers are popular for their effectiveness against the automated legions of Shangri-LA as well as their ease of procurement. However, requisitions for plasma carronades far exceed fulfillment, as the powerful weapon can all but disintegrate a Centaur at point-blank range. However, the weapons are difficult to produce and expensive to acquire – forcing some crews to turn to black market sources for their solutions.

April 6, 2087 - after weeks of military setbacks and the loss of the nation's primary food processing centers around Bell Mountain, the AI network running Shangri-LA arrived at a simple conclusion: life jeopardized the nation's survival.
In the span of less than 100 hours Shangri-LA became the first nation to break the biological barrier ushering humanity into a new phase of existence.
In the span of less than 100 hours the automated legions of Shangri-LA's internal security apparatus initiated what apologists have dubbed the Singularity Upload - others called it genocide.
In the span of less than 100 hours more than 4 million lives ended - extracted and fed to Shangri-LA's quantum network.
-Gaia First! recruitment propaganda posted 21 February 2088

New artwork featuring the rise of Shangri-LA as a fully quantum nation. This image features a single-use B.E.D. (Brain Emulation Drone) attached to a Shangrilese victim. Affectionately called B.E.D. bugs, these devices attach to a victim's skull and drill into the skull cavity before scanning and chemically absorbing the tissue within. Once processed, the host's thoughts, memories, and personality are uploaded into Shangri-LA's massive quantum network. There the consciousness is unraveled and redistributed to become elements of code within the larger AI.

Happy Friday!

This image depicts a Shangrilese Devil Ray tank patrolling the flooded canals of the Silicone Islands, June 2072
Spoiler:

Shangri-LA was not always an empty nation. Its cities now sit virtually silent - long gone is the boisterous, bustling energy of humanity. The cacophonous choir of voices and their plummeting depths of emotions replaced with the incessant thrum of machinery endlessly producing.

At its height, Shangri-LA claimed domain of the western-half of North America - stretching from the Pacific coast eastward to the Maw and south along the Fractured Plains. Acquired through a series of short but devastating conflicts with its regional neighbors, Shangri-LA spent the decade between 2075 and 2086 invading and consolidating gains made against the Silicone Islands, the Trade Unions of Fleishstadt and smaller bandit kingdoms spread along the Rocky Divide. Known as the Great Expansion, it was believed throughout Shangri-LA that their conquests and absorption of neighboring populations was a humane and just action to share the wealth and advances Shangrilese culture had to offer.

Shangri-LA achieved military success through a hybrid-force of human soldiers fighting alongside L-AI (Limited Artificial Intelligence) constructs. Organizing their military in this way allowed Shangri-LA’s ruling council to minimize a major weakness: shortages of willing soldiers. Due to the nation’s prosperity and cultural preference of the virtual over the physical, those who chose to enlist in the militia were viewed with both respect and a bit of distrust. The common perception of militia personnel was that they were noble, brave and a bit regressive. Anyone who would prefer sweating in the dust of the Mojave rather than gliding effortlessly in a quantum server was considered peculiar, resulting in low enlistment rates.

The Shangrilese enjoy a high standard of living relative to the remaining North American nations which often lack both the natural resources and re-engineered environments that made Shangri-LA an economic power. The appeal of Shangri-LA’s territory was its primary asset in the cultural wars which flared up in the 2050’s and 60’s – precursors to the hot wars which would follow in the 2070’s. Terraformed coastlines, printed forests and even the grand floating city known as the Sphere, were fantastical wonders unmatched anywhere on the continent. Along with the nation’s high quantum technologies Shangri-LA was an attractive destination not just for tourism but immigration - leading to claims from some nations that Shangri-LA was waging a clandestine war targeting specific populations with innovative, targeted advertising. Scientists, engineers, and retired military veterans from other nations flocked to Shangri-LA between 2050 and 2070.

Well, I'd rather the comparison of Gizmo Duck than those things - at least Gizmo doesn't look like he had the robot equivalent of a stroke.

But yep, you correctly identified another mono-wheeled robot. Swing and a miss on the tractor one - sadly it lacks a mono-wheel so it doesn't count.

You matched the colors perfectly and got close on the shapes - someone deserves an extra juice box!

Happy Monday everyone!

Some cool items came in over the weekend: vehicle schematic cards!
Spoiler:

These 4x6" full-color, 2-sided cards feature vehicle artwork on the front and schematic information on the back. Each model will come packed with its own schematic card.

Also new this month are thematic multi-model packs which will come with a discount versus buying the models individually.

The Badger Patrol is the first of these themed packs and comes with 2 Badger models at a $10 savings.

This pack is also eligible for the DCM discount to really stack the savings!

Badgers typically operate in patrols of two vehicles to increase the likelihood of persevering in an encounter against Shangrilese forces. While the Badger's Lancer ATGM is capable of crippling a Centaur drone in a single hit, Gaia First! crews swear by a set of rules for survival with the second being "double tap that Shangri-LA crap!"

Of course some patrols prefer to mix Badger variants and the R4's RAG-88 minigun provides tremendous rates of fire which can quickly overwhelm a Centaur's defenses allowing for kill shots from the second Badger.

Happy Friday everyone!

I am excited to share a sneak preview of the next vehicle release for Simulacrum Protocol: the Tapir! Carrying a devastating laser cannon, the Tapir can blast through fortifications and materiel with ease.

The model is cast and completed, but the schematic card artwork is underway and the talented Adam Barker shared his sketches!

Spoiler:

Also, another themed vehicle pack, the Special Recon Team, was added to the Seedy Tea Store!

Special Recon Teams deploy behind enemy lines in attempt to locate and destroy key targets, or identify targets of opportunity for supporting forces.

This pack is an excellent entry point into the Simulacrum Protocol line and provides 2 Badger ATVs and a Locust Support Vehicle along with a handsome discount! This is a limited time/quantity offer.

Here is a Special Recon Team in action!

The wastes of the Mojave are home to dangers beyond Shangri-LA's ruthless security forces - small bands of mercenaries, along with the desperate and abandoned, prey on anything that moves along the broken wasteland highways.
Armed with a motley array of salvaged weaponry, these unaligned forces are simply called "Repudiators" by the continent's remaining nations - and exterminated with extreme prejudice by all but the most egalitarian societies. Considered failures and remnants of doomed nations, Repudiators are believed cursed or otherwise too damaged to meliorate and bring into the fold.

Happy Friday everyone!

I wanted to take a closer look at a piece of Shangrilese technology I previewed a few weeks back. Created to forcibly upload a human's consciousness to Shangri-LA's quantum network and deemed a terror weapon by the nations opposing Shangri-LA's expansion, I present the foul Brain Emulation Device.

Frighteningly sophisticated technology merged with crude killing power, the Brain Emulation Device truly embodies the nature of Shangri-LA’s diplomacy - voracious brutality gilded by advanced materials. B.E.D. units combine common Shangrilese technologies like anti-gravity propulsion and quantum computing, allowing for cheap, efficient domestic mass production - crucial to prevent manufacturing stoppages due to foreign embargoes.

Designed as single-use tools tasked with carrying out the final stage of Shangrilese invasion, B.E.D. units swarm over a conquered region before individually anchoring to a victim's skull. Once attached, the B.E.D. unit drills through bone seeking the soft neural tissues within, which are liquified and suction transferred into the B.E.D.’s lower processing chamber for analysis and coding. Once analyzed, the victim’s consciousness is uploaded into Shangri-LA's massive quantum network where the thoughts, memories, and personality are unraveled and redistributed to become elements of code inside the ever-growing intelligence. After the upload is complete the B.E.D. unit will go inert having completed its function.

Millions of B.E.D. units were used against Shangri-LA’s own biological population and tens of thousands have since been used against warbands of Repudiators and smaller communities throughout the northern wastes.

Here is a B.E.D. in action during the AI take over of Shangri-LA.
Spoiler:

Enjoy your weekend, get some rest, and don't let the B.E.D. bugz bite!

Tapir are dangerous siege tanks mounting the powerful Xolotl laser cannon which is capable of punching through most modern reinforced defenses - posing a direct threat to Shangri-LA's quantum AI network housed in the bowels of the San Bernardino mountain range. Shangrilese forces make it a point to destroy Tapir whenever the opportunity presents itself necessitating multi-layered screening forces to keep Gaia First!'s remaining Tapir operational.

Happy Wednesday everyone!

As 2020 crawls to the finish line I wanted to share some previews of new vehicle weapon bits and the first character model which will release for Simulacrum Protocol in the coming weeks.

Also, just a reminder that our holiday sale is ongoing with savings up to 25% and free shipping on orders of $100/150 (domestic/international).

All orders in December will receive a free gift - some samples of our new range of stowage bits and other kit to add verisimilitude to your vehicles!

Teased last month, Bartholomew "Half-Machine" Krenshaw is the initial offering for Simulacrum Protocol's character line of models. These models are 32mm and scale with the Simulacrum Protocol line of vehicles.

The model will be based on the following art, depicting Half-Machine in all of his augmented glory. Also releasing alongside this cybernetic brute are weapon bits to customize a Moose Battle Wagon to act as Half-Machine's personal ride, Papa Bear.

Krenshaw's background:
Spoiler:
Bartholomew ‘Half-machine' Krenshaw, a charming and wholly violent nomadic warlord who currently terrorizes the death zone between Fleishstadt and Shangri-LA with his self-proclaimed ‘Bear Legion' – cybernetically altered, and chemically-crazed warriors numbering in the dozens. Originally from the Floridian Isles, Krenshaw was one of thousands of citizen-turned-repudiator when the Georgian Republic forfeited its claim over the vanquished league of island states. Bereft of national claim, Krenshaw and the other surviving Floridians were classified as repudiators and onboarded as indentured staff by United Negotiations (U.N.) where most remain in perpetual service decades later.

Krenshaw rode in a vehicle crew as a gunner working the dangerous Everglade trade routes and seeing frequent combat in his 5 years with the U.N. Krenshaw’s career was seemingly cut short after sustaining catastrophic injuries in an ambush, resulting in extensive trauma to parts of his head, torso and legs as well as the complete loss of his right arm. U.N. policy stipulates that indentured staff grievously injured while performing their duties are entitled to immediate forgiveness of all outstanding time-debt. The only stipulation is that the victim’s after-action report must be verified by a supervisor.

While in a chemical induced coma in a U.N. medical facility, Krenshaw’s section supervisor signed up the incapacitated man for bionic organ transplants and cybernetic limb replacement with high-density epidermal plating. The supervisor justified these surgical measures citing a need “to obtain verbal confirmation of staffer’s involvement in incident” despite ample audio and video recordings of the ambush from U.N. drone assets, as well as sworn testimonies of Krenshaw’s surviving crew members. Without the credits to cover the numerous surgeries, U.N. Human Resources auto-enrolled Krenshaw for additional tours as an indentured staffer to cover the augmentation and rehabilitation costs incurred. Outraged at what amounted to 13 years of additional service charged without his consent, Krenshaw vowed to exact his revenge on his section supervisor and that vendetta would eventually grow to include the entirety of the U.N. To make matter worse, the now heavily augmented Krenshaw was promoted to squadron chief overseeing a group of four attack vehicles tasked with escorting convoys through even more dangerous trade routes snaking through the Georgian swamps.
Krenshaw endured 9 grueling months running those trade routes before setting in motion a cunning escape which took him and a dozen vehicles and their crews west into the continent’s wastelands. The crews, largely other indentured staff and all heavily augmented to survive in hazardous environments, formed a loyal and dedicated war band around Krenshaw's charismatic leadership.

Top down of the weapons: 20mm rotary cannon, 450-MJ chemical laser, and smooth bore "hail storm" shell launcher - Half-Machine's custom weapon!
