Before the Great Rift, the Galactic Core was a mixture of warp storms, planets with precious metals, and some other stuff. Now if you look at a map, the whole area is consumed by the Great Rift. Is there any information on what is going on? I wouldn't be surprised if it was more corrupted now than the Eye of Terror and the Maelstrom combined.

I don't see why it would be worse than anywhere else that got swallowed by the rift. I'd still think the Eye is the worst place as that's been there for a bit over ten thousand years.

In older lore the core was a mess of crazy and exotic phenomena like ionic reefs, nomadic singularities, null-zones and a huge amount of black holes, since those are supposed mess with and nullify the Warp around them. Making the region almost impossible to traverse using warp travel.

Post-GR, I dunno. Maybe they decided to retcon it and black holes are now concentrating the warp, or maybe the black areas in the newer maps ain't actually referring to the Warp but are simply unexplored blank spots.

Or maybe the writers got black hole and warp rift mixed up. Kinda like when whoever was writing those FFG rpgs expanded upon the Hadex Anomaly, turning it from an intriguing "Red Hole" into a bog standard warp rift.
