So for some reason or another I have the urge to work on a themed terrain table for the new edition. Specifically themed around shipping/logistics/warehouses. Mostly as an excuse to make a bunch of shipping containers and have them fit in. It's also on my mind to have them both make sense within the environment but also function well with the new terrain rules we'll be playing with.

So far i'm working on shipping containers to fill up space and provide line of sight blocking. As pictured below I made them fairly chunky, able to hide tanks and midsized monstrous creatures. Sitting at 3" high it's easy enough for infantry to climb it to get fire positions and be somewhat safe from assault. Where as stacking 2 would block line of sight to quite a lot of things. (Sadly not checked if it blocks out knights or gorkanaughts yet.)

For ruins I could easily make some bombed out warehouses, use some left over corrugated card to make unloading doors, second floors with gantries to use the defensible trait and block LOS(Though these are more interesting with the new engagement rules, making it harder for things to simply be out of reach.)

What other things do you think would be ideal terrain in 9th and fit within the theme of a 40K/modern day distribution centre?

For reference here is the terrain rules for 9th. Figured it may help on advice. https://bloodofkittens.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/terrain.pdf

Not an expert on 9th ed rules yet, so won't speak to that. However, I think a loading dock with some recessed entrances could be cool, and provide interesting LOS spots.

A train track running across the yard might be cool- or taking it a step further, it could be a maritime dock, and you could add in a water feature where a shipping container vessel could or would be?

Edited to spoiler the photos:

Cranes and flatbed transporters. What about some articulated lorry cabs and associated trailers?

I went for the walker approach for my Necromunda scenery.

Also you need a burger van... or several. Portaloos or a converted toilet block of some kind. An administration building and a security/guard hut would also fit in.

I used a GW container as a basis for my ablutions block. Vitally important in the underhive... or totally ignored depending on your gang and point of view

Also some wrecked containers could probably be of use. I boiled this poor container then smashed it with a hammer. The flipping things are tough!

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

A train depot is an interesting idea. I could probably mount it on one of the mdf placemats I use to base bigger terrain pieces. Two sets of tracks, one side having a raised platform that can act as a hill with barricades, the other being for container forklifts to do their deal. Would fit nicely on the edges of the boards.

As for food trucks/guard/checkpoints, could work too, though most of them would be rather small no?

Update on the current state of the terrain, got 5 containers done so far and will likely work on a pair of warehouse ruins.

Fairly happy with how the containers look, big chunky boys that when stacked can hide a gorkanaught with ease, should be fairly good to play around and with.

Tempted to make a second batch after the ruins, be able to make 2 decent sized piles in the midfield with a handful scattered around the board as well.

Been working on and off with the table. Focusing on the plating of the table, making it look like the spaceship decking i'm aiming for.

So far it's some buildings that need to be painted and detailed beyond basecoat. The crates which need more painting and the pipes that I think I need to shorten up and then do some riveting work and some details added like valves and ground bracing.

Still thinking of other things that are A useful for gameplay and B add some personality to the game. Like aquilas, marine iconography and on some of the buildings things that allude to their purpose. Like the red building with double windows is going to be a tuckshop or lunch place with menus above the windows.

Any ideas for additions?
