Greeting,
As a topic of discussion, I thought it would be fun to talk about what OOP games or editions of games we still play on a regular basis? I am a big proponent of "If I bought it, I am using it". However, I know that isn't always the case with many gamers.
RPGs:
Red/Blue/Teal Box Dungeons and Dragons
Star Wars 2nd Edition
Shadowrun 3rd Edition
Wargames:
Necromunda V1
Aeronautica Imperialis V1
All Quiet on the Martian Front
Warhammer Ancient Battle
Gorkamorka
Various 40K editions
Strange Aeons (?)
Stargrunt/Dirtside II
Force-on-Force/Tomorrow's War
I'm sure there are more but those are the ones I can think of right now....

Definitely in the bought and use camp, and that newer isn't necessarily better, although can't deny the attraction of new shiny things from time to time!
Mostly older GW stuff really:
- 1st ed. Space Hulk
- Epic Armageddon
- Blood Bowl (know the new one is almost identical but still have all the pitches and things from the original so have stuck with it)
- Necromunda (playing a hybrid of the new version and the original's campaign and balancing system)
- Am collecting a 2nd edition 40k army although yet to play with it
Other than GW, 2nd edition FoW (prefer to the later versions)

Oddly, none of the games that I (want to) currently play are OOP. Mostly interested (haven't really been able to play much thanks to the Rona):
* Star Fleet Battles (yes, super old, but still in print!)
* Age of Sigmar
* Twilight
* Moonstone
* Warcry
That said I have a host of games I don't really play, too, since I collect rulebooks.

And, of course, random minis to go with games I've still yet to play or even assemble the models... Figmentia is a thing, and it's terminal.

Deranged Necron Destroyer

Playing a V1 Necromunda campaign right now, slowly repainting my Redemptionists as they each level up and get new equipment.
I haven't played a game in a while, but myself and a friend each have sizeable Dystopian Wars armies (version 2.0). Really fun game, sad that Spartan Games went under. Skimmed through the 3.0 beta rules but haven't been inspired to try them out.
Gonna play a game of 8th edition Fantasy this afternoon.
Other than that mostly contemporary games. I've been trying to expand out beyond GW lately, picking up Wargods of Olympus and about to grab the Blood and Plunder starter kit. That said, I really enjoy Warcry and what little of AoS I've played.
Our regular RP group has played Soulbound, Call of Cthulhu (7th ed), Rifts, and Witchhunter (1st edition) - only the latter two are OoP.
It seems to me like there is a long-term trend towards simplification, which isn't always a good thing for its own sake. More important is that the rules are intuitive, the book is well laid out (with a good Index a MUST), and the rules are immersive. I love a good chunky ruleset that gives you lots of options as long as the choices are interesting and grounded in some sort of consistent rule logic.

Necromunda v1
Battlefleet Gothic
Mordheim
Aeronautica v1
Mighty Empires - card tiles and real empires!
Space Hulk v3 - first I bought
Warhammer Skirmish
Warhammer Ancients
Warmaster and Warmaster Ancients
Trafalgar
The above are the standards in our group, and with 9th hitting, I'll likely be going to an earlier version of 40k or just playing 7th 30k. I finally put paint to the Legion.
I've also got tons of rulesets from all genres, I can't help myself in checking out what the "newest" mechanics are.
|
Legio Suturvora 2000 points (painted)
30k Word Bearers 2000 points (in progress)
Daemonhunters 1000 points (painted)
Flesh Tearers 2000+ points (painted) - Balt GT '02 52nd; Balt GT '05 16th
Kabal of the Tortured Soul 2000+ points (painted) - Balt GT '08 85th; Mechanicon '09 12th
Greenwing 1000 points (painted) - Adepticon Team Tourny 2013

Main one for me is epic (original SM and NetEpic)
Find it more enjoyable that some of the newer editions of 40k and AoS.
Always fun to play and quick and easy.

Not much on this front, but Lost Patrol 2nd Ed and FF's Space Hulk card game.
I would say the Way of the Tiger series, but thankfully they were revised for a new print run. Glad to have them back, with two new books no less.
At a stretch, Space Crusade and Hero Quest, but no longer have the originals and made a new game incorporating elements from both. I missed the Eldar Attack expansion back in the day( regretfully ) and focused on the Eldar, with Orks as the "aliens".

I have an obscene amount of Star Wars miniatures and cards.
Also play the 40k RPG's.
I also have recently played Mordheim, must admit it's pretty cool.

The 40K RPGs? Like Dark Heresy? I recall seeing a second edition at one point. Did that go out of print too?

They all did when GW and FFG did not renew the license.
That said, you can actually still get the PDFs through DriveThruRPG, so maybe it doesn't technically count as "out of print".

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 1e + AD&D 2e. 1e is the core & we add 2e stuff as desired
Pathfinder 1e + a shelf full of D&D 3/3.5. PF is the core & then we add whatever from the 3x editions of D&D
Space Hulk - all editions are oop, so it just depends upon who's house we're playing at.
Blue Max - a WWI Biplane model based game. Not sure if it's technically oop as I've only ever seen PDF prints, but it's extremely rare to find another BM player outside Historical minis cons.
Dawn Patrol - speaking of oop WWI plane games....
Angels 20 - WoTC WWII plane game
Flames of War 3rd ed
Warhammer Fantasy Battle 3rd ed.
Any # of board games - too many to list here. At least 1/4 of what's on my shelf is looong oop (I have my Dads Avalon Hill collection), another 1/4, maybe more are definitely oop, & I'd have to look up each of the remaining 50% to be sure. So let's just assume most of what I've bought more than 3 years ago counts as oop.
And soon: WH 40k 8th ed - I'm sure there'll still be 8th ed games within my circle July 26th+

All of them! I made a point of collecting many OOP GW games that I remembered from my youth; those I had played before and those that I missed. I still play:
Man O War
Battlefleet Gothic
2nd Ed Epic
Warmaster
Dark Future
Legends of the Old West
WHFB (various editions)
Advanced Heroquest
Mordheim
40K (every edition from 2nd Ed onwards)

Blue Max is the mother of all airplane games. Seriously, most of them take ques from Blue Max.
Great game!

Contingent on when I can get a willing opponant:
WAB
WFB - 6th only
40K - more interested in 4th and 5th, but willing to play others
I want to get into BFG, and that is scratching my cool itch for some reason.
Perhaps an OOP gaming convention might be a good idea.
