Stalwart Ultramarine Tactical Marine

Hello!

The goal of my first blogging experience is simple:
1) finish the batch of unpainted plastic laying around
2) get better at painting in the process

I tried to create a video, maybe I'll stick to it, maybe not, who knows. I'd call this serie "The Unpainted" (for obvious reasons) and episode by episode we should go through the pile. There's a special edition noise marine waiting at the end of the season like a final boss, and I want to have perfected my art by then, so he can be awesome as he deserves to be!

C&C is more than welcome, a couple of things I noticed by myself:

  • sculpting/prepping the mini, I don't do that, and the miniatures are full of scorches, mould lines, etc..

  • I'd like my highlights to be thinner, should work more on that

  • in YouTube you can't upload the same video with higher resolution, the first upload should be the only one (lol @me, noob), next one will be 1080+, this one is just 720

  • The current WIP is a MKIV space marine captain and the standard bearer by forge world, quite hyped because I like ultramarines and the banner will be the largest free hand I've ever tried.

Finally, my name on reddit and YouTube is Sc1enc3, but I was lurking on Dakka earlier than that with a different name. I thought about making a new account with the proper name, but all my galleries are connected to this account and it didn't feel right.

    Stay frosty!

    Second video!

The current target is a Forge World Command Set that will become the head of my Ultramarine army! Later on there's also a Primaris Captain that wants to have a word about command position, but for now he lays.. unpainted

    In the video there's:

  • color blocks phase, where the main colours are put down on the components with a light glaze. The early glaze is to give an idea of there I want lights and shadows on the miniature

  • shadows, the tight contour of armour parts and more glazing to create smoother blends on the power sword and the cape

  • As per the serie scope, C&C more than welcome, let me know what I messed up or what can be executed better/faster. The next video will be the wrap up with highlights and the freehand standard!

    Stay frosty!(?)

I like the power sword. Very clean aesthetic. Not sure if you said it in the video, but what colors and glaze did you use? Also I'm very interested in trying that technique now.

uh, I should put the colours somewhere indeed..!

  • Thunderhawk blue for the base

  • Baharroth blue for the light glaze

  • Sotek green for the dark part of the glaze

  • Drakenhof Nightshade ink for the center

  • I think it's just the basic technique it requires patience because the paint needs to dry completely before applying a new layer, so I do one layer and something else, one layer, something else, etc.. Please share on the forums how it turns out for you!

The command set is now highlighted and assembled!

There was a bit of panic when I splattered metal paint all over the pieces, in particular on the power sword, but turned out the black and golden bracer was cool and after correcting the obvious errors it turned out pretty nice!

    C&C more than welcome

Now I'm scouting the next project, I want to change a bit from the Command Set (the freehand banner will arrive, worry not) and there's a special edition Chaplain in Terminator armour already coated...

I took a picture of the two pieces, a part from the banner now I need for sure to add the varnish and make them matte, because the paints and inks reflect a lot of light. Also, I just can't take a good picture.. what is the perfect seupt for photography?? Anyway here they are!

I've just returned to HQ, so last week I had only some footage of the unpainted pile:

Currently I've started the Chaplain, I never realised how many skulls are on that terminator armor.. borderline khrone if you ask me..
