Warp-Screaming Noise Marine

I felt inspired to try to create some themed terrain for my chaos space marine army and I looked for inspiration, but the closest things I could find is a picture of an iron warriors fortress world, that Helfort from fantasy, and the dawn of war chaos buildings. Would the chaos space marine faction build mostly on top of old imperium (gothic architecture) buildings, and defile it (spikes and blasphemous iconography) and would they replicate crude mockeries of it on their worlds outside of the imperium? Or would their own architects build something completely new, different, and wildly radical and infernal? Or chaos, by it’s nature, pretty much encompasses the whole spectrum of possible solutions I offered and so much more?

The primary “brand” for the CSM faction can be summed up as a(n even more) evil version of the Imperium. So architecturally, start with the normal gothic style of the Imperium and add the spikes, corruption, decay, vandalism, etc. Keep in mind that the Warp also plays a role: parts of desecrated structures may become daemonically possessed and thus develop “organic” features. Use the model line as a guide.

There's a few things to consider - if it's a pirate band of renegades like the Red Corsairs, they're going to be appropriating a lot of Imperial technology and distorting it - so their strongholds and space stations are going to be more like your "standard" Imperial materiel with extra gribbly. If it's a group that is building their own strongholds on random planets from scratch, then you'll get a lot of variation - anything from the plague factories of the Death Guard to the flesh fortress of the Night Haunter. If they're building on a daemon world in the Eye of Terror, then there's limitless possibilities - native daemon architecture, warped Eldar architecture from one of the Crone Worlds, even buildings forged from the raw stuff of emotion like in ADB's The Black Legion.

So really there's lots of options, depending on the narrative behind Your Guys - from recent renegades to full-on warp worshippers, and everything in between.

Be sure to remember that the aesthetics are going to vary considerably between which Chaos god one follows. A fortress of Khorne is going to look very different than one of Tzeentch.

Battleship Captain

Best recommendation - look into the Black Crusade RPG. It's intended for parties of chaos followers, and shows a lot of art of daemon worlds, dark forgeworld, frontier worlds, etc. that aren't currently at war.
