I heard there was a demo version on TTS and was wondering about the game.

Is it a pretty unique setup or is it Kingdom Death: Gundam battle assault?

The kickstarter pops off on the 25 of this month if you haven't heard of it.

The models look great from what I've seen so its probably just gonna be a price point thing for me.

An online search for 'Core Crash' didn't turn up anything by that name. It did turn up the similarly named 'Core Clash', which is also a mecha-focused combat game. The release date for it on BGG (where the search engine directed me) was next year. But virtually no other information (not even a website) was available.

It's actually launching the 25th of July.

This coming Saturday.

And yeah, it's a mecha game. Gives off a Transformers/ Super Robt vibe.

To be honest I like the sculpts. We'll see how it's priced and what's included.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

Well, at the very least I could really use the minis... I'm not lucky enough that they offer stl files, right?

lol probably not. And yeah sorry about the lack of info on my end, but its been fairly well kept under the radar.

It was just a few guys on reddit that i saw had played the demo on TTS so it might have been just a small selection of people that got to try it.

Man, the miniature renders and painted samples do look really good to me! I just don't have room for another miniature game though. We really are spoiled for choice these days.

There's a lot of Gundam other giant robo stuff in there but so many basic Transformers design elements it's hard not to see the Optimus Prime, optimus primal, Ultra Magnus there.

I like the models a lot. The game seems a little meh though.

The videos mainly focus on the simple mode, I don't know how much the advanced mode adds. But while I hate to be a downer, to me the game feels very basic at it's core, with complexity added in little systems (resource allocation etc) in ways that are cool, but don't really change the fact the core game is a small model count "move then attack" game with no objectives. "Destroy your opponent's models" really shouldn't be the primary objective, much less the only objective. As is I just don't see a reason to play it.

The models look great though and I feel it would be worth the cost of the game just for them if I had another game to use them in right now. But personally I don't. Plus why buy models that are very close to being Transformers when I can just buy Wizkid's "deep cuts" Transformers instead? Well, other than Core Crash models looking much better that is.

I'd probably buy STL's of the models if they sold them; that would give me the versatility of being able to print them at the best scale for different games.

I don't wish to discourage anyone from going in on this, like I said I do think it's worth it just for the models.

By the way, how do people feel about the fact that there won't be a retail version?

Not having a retail version *should* increase the chance the product will be delivered to backers. The creator does not have to guess how many units to make, and *can* receive a higher profit margin per unit. Distributors expect at least a 40% discount, while backers expect a 20% MSRP discount and will also pay up front. Emphasis on "can", though. The creator can still mismanage the project, including by promising too many rewards, turning that higher profit margin into a loss per unit.

Palladium's Robotech KS is a poster child of product meant for retail. Palladium took all the backer funds for the base game, and expected base game sales to pay for additional KS rewards. When retail base game sales failed, they were unable to send out rewards.

What about game longeivity though?

That's hard to really judge. Some games like KD: Monster have that longevity. Many don't. The big decider really is how "complete" is the game after KSer (what's the scope of the game) and how well it will be supported post KSer.

Clearly this being a skirmish game it probably won't be a complete game so how well it sells and how good the rules are will determine how much support it gets. Or they could go a more novel approach. I backed Human Interface: Be a better human and they've got post KSer to pateron selling STL of figures to support probably doing more (as they went way over budget and probably had to take out loans and pay for shipping increases out of pocket).
