I just picked up the necron half of Indomitus, what would be good to flesh out a Necron list?

I am a complete noob myself, but from what I gather, some must-have or good-to-have unit options are:

Doomsday Ark

Triarch Stalker

Necron Immortals

Stay away from Heavy Destroyers FOR NOW, even if they are regarded as a strong unit, as a lot of units might get new datasheets when a new codex drops, which ought to be relatively soon.

So right now, we can only theorize on a lot of stuff. Head on over to the tactics area where there is an active Necron discussion going on and ask there for better answers than I can give.

I really like each of those models and the heavy destroyers seem point for point almost as good as the Triarchs, but I think the Triarch wins out on rule of cool.

I'll tell you what I've been telling everyone.

Triarch Stalkers. 3 of them

But honestly, wait for the codex as we have no idea what rule changes are coming. Wraiths are probably the safest purchase.

I really love the triarchs, I was hoping to find one of those start collectings with them still floating around, but I dont think that they will be the same price they used to be...

The codex drops in October?, I think.

so far I've picked up the Necron half of the indomitus box, and one of the "newer" Necron starters, was hoping to find the triarch starter, but no dice for me.
I am enjoying the Annihilation barge so far though lol, the double up on Teslas is fun, I made a minimum of 10 hits with it every time it shot.

Edit: I made the Catacomb Command Barge interchange able with the Annihilation Barge, the large turret and the Overseer can slide right in to the space where they normally go, so I'm gonna magnetize them.

Edit: it copied this post twice, so I deleted the copy lol

Same boat as a lot of people as new to new Necrons but have some legacy stuff that I picked up from here and there over the last few editions.

We have already seen evidence that a lot of units are getting profile adjustments, with most seen so far arguably being buffs to older units. But with so much being overhauled it is a bit of a crap shoot at the moment, provided you can find anything.

So far keys to match play games has been grabbing objectives so you can start scoring primary turn 2 and having units that can consistently score your secondary objectives to keep pressure on your opponent. In short, don’t castle up, be ready to contest in at least 3 of the 4 table quarters.

With those thoughts

I think Immortals are a given. At least a couple of boxes to give you two units of 5.

Tomb blades and/or wraiths for early objective denial or ob sec if taking Nihilakh or to help score engage on all front and linebreaker secondary objectives.

Ghost Arks which seem to be more viable this edition for getting infantry around the board quickly to help with securing and holding objectives. Alternatively you can build the kit as a DDA though I think the new Doom Stalker may push it for its traditional HS slot given its lower point cost and BMFG.

The Triarch Stalker seems to have been doing some work in the early battle reports I have watched since it can shoot and move now w/o penalty. Not sure if I would spam though since we don’t know how good its aura buff will be in the new codex.

I am struggling how to fill out the elite slot. I will play the Skorpekh Destroyers initially, but I am skeptical they are a long term solution.

I am hesitant about flyers this edition but would still probably pick up two if they can be had.

It's very hard to advise right now because we don't have all the information on them so any builds for power or even points are a bit questionable right now.

That said right now I'd say pick up more Indomitus. Either picking up whole halves or focus on things like warriors and scarabs - things you know that you'll want more of in general terms.

You can use that to create an affordable core for your force to expand from.

The "Rule of 3" means that any more than 3 full sets would be a waste in terms of repeat units like the reanimator; but things like the warriors and the blade destroyers are more than suitable. Anything after that is either builking out for fun or having spare parts for conversions and the like.

I think that the night scythe is going to be a MVP for 9th, with being able to drop troops out of it turn two being really useful for securing those objectives, so maybe dropping a 10 man of immortals or warriors on an objective would be alright. Assuming that the rules for them don't change too much...
I split an Indomitus box with someone, and I bought a "newer" start collecting, the annihilation barge one. thought about buying a second annihilation barge.

The last few games I've played (1250 because thats all I have in Necrons atm) I like what I've been running so far, both games were vs Deathguard though.

1 cryptek
1 Codex Overlord with Rez Ord
1 Royal warden

5 Immortals with Tesla
10 Warriors with Flayers
10 Warriors with Reapers
10 Warriors with Reapers

3 Skorpech destroyers
2 Cryptothralls
1 Canoptek Reanimator

3 Canoptek Scarab Swarms
3 Canoptek Scarab Swarms
3 Canoptek Scarab Swarms

1 Annihilation Barge with Tesla.

I agree with Overread, the Indomitus box comes with enough bits to make 20 warriors with reapers or flayers, so I used those bits to convert the 10 +2 warriors i got out of a start collecting to the newer non-green rod flayers. and it's good value I think.
