I mean the question is the question. How crazy does this universe get? Examples of people, places things, tech, warp entities etc. The nurgle Daemon Prince in Soul Drinkers comes certainly to mind.

Different authors have produced differing levels. It depends how hard they try.
If you go by Gav thrope, each of the soul stones worn by the Eldar was created by the death of an old Eldar when slannesh sucked their souls out. So they're all wearing grannies ashes as a shield for their soul.
Time travel happens but is never controllable. There was the Ork who met himself and killed him to get two copies of his favourite Choppa.
The warp allows a lot of stupid stuff if you lean into it and deliberately try to push it.
The eye of terror novel by Barrington J Bailey from 20 years ago had a scheming lord of change that figured out how to make matter out of the warp and helped build a giant flotilla out of nothingness but it all collapsed and his senior brethren laughed at his foolishness and probably tortured him (it's been a while since I read it).

My favorite books are the Chaos ones too. Word Bearers comes to mind as a shining example, but I hope that Eye of Terror book is in print or cheap somewhere because thats the STUFF. I have found almost 450 pts of old CSM stuff I built in 2009 and painted a Nurgles theme of fetid olive drab green with white chaos stars. But depending on the latest codex I might role a multi god army, even using some warped sisters as female cultists. But other than this foundation I've wanted to write them as monstrous marauders of warp travel with a trippiness and reality-bending story. Originally they theme was inspired by the warp ghosts colors when almost nothing was written on them. Now I thought they could've been a warband of the warp ghosts created by time travelling in on themselves in warp induced duplication but nothing is written on them other than indications they might be some entities that steal bodies to survive but not really human. Their 'curse' also seems like Nurgle doesn't like them much otherwise rot would be a blessing.
Do boarding attacks happen in mid warp travel?I imagine exceptions can be made to the rules via some eldritch sorcery.

The Rogue Trader RPG had one example: A captain or lieutenant of a ship ends up in the past. When questioned, he said he has a grandfather that is a famous and successful admiral. The authorities check and say the only one with that name is an ensign and there is no record of such an admiral. Both are then executed. The implication was the grandfather was that ensign, before his rise in the ranks.

GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH. |

I like the story of Tuska, the "Daemon-Killa"
Lexicanum wrote:Tuska made his mark in the Eye of Terror, by defeating the Daemon hordes on several Daemon Worlds, and seemed unstoppable until his Waaagh! crash-landed on a flesh planet. The planet belonged to a mighty Daemon Prince of Khorne known as the Blood Prince, who soon led his Daemonic hordes against the invading Orks. In the battle that followed, Tuska suffered many deep wounds and his Boyz took heavy losses. Just as the Blood Prince was about to finish Tuska, his Weirdboyz managed to distract the Daemon using their psychic powers, giving Tuska enough time to impale the creature between its legs with his Power Klaw before being killed himself. The Warboss’ vast horde was later eventually slain to an Ork by the wrathful Daemon Prince and his minions.
However, the story did not end there for Tuska. Khorne had such joy in watching the murderous spectacle, that he ensured that Tuska's Waaagh! rose once more the very next dawn. Now, the Orks repeat the fight over and over again, for the Blood God was so impressed by their limitless battlelust that he took the Orks into his own domain. In the shadow of the Brass Citadel, his elite Bloodletter generals battle against Daemon-Killa’s undying horde on a daily basis. This suits the Warboss just fine: he has finally found a good fight that never ends.

The short story Seven Views of Uhlguth's Passing is about a semi-sentient daemon world in the Eye of Terror which travels into realspace in search of its departed ruler.

I believe that on a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is completely rational and sane, and 10 is totally bat-guano over the top insane. The Warhammer 40K universe is an 11.
There's space fungus that want to kill you, and reproduce by making war; there's space bugs that are the size of tanks that want to eat you; hell is a literal place that you can travel both to and through; 60 million year old robots want to kill all life in the galaxy; armies use both weapons that can kill you from miles away, and also weapons that kill you by hitting you with them; enemies can make your head explode using their heads, unless they mess up then their head explodes too; trench warfare happens alongside giant interplanetary space fleet battles; the human race is trying to save itself, mostly by getting as many of its people killed as it can it seems. Its all nuts all the time; and this just scratches the surface.

That’s pretty much as close to “and they all lived happily ever after” as it gets in 40k

One of my favorites is the nebula that looks like a rose. That is full of stars that make the shape of a rose. And there us a planet that looks like a rose. And the surface is covered by roses. Its also the first Black Library story that has a Dark Angel from the Heresy meet a Dark Angel from the 41st millennium.
The giant floating tube in space that spits out a constant stream of weaponry ranging from sharpened sticks to super spaceships from the Dark Age of Technology.
Orikan travels back in time on a regular basis to make sure his prophecies are correct.
There is a branch of the Inquisition called the Ordos Chronos with only a single member. Supposedly a time traveling individual with some sort of harmonic philips head.

Or there are several Ordos Chronos with separate, but overlapping, missions that are at war with each other (and agents of Guilliman). Automatically Appended Next Post: DeffDred wrote:The giant floating tube in space that spits out a constant stream of weaponry ranging from sharpened sticks to super spaceships from the Dark Age of Technology.
What? Where's that from?
