Hey there fellow nerds.

I started a project a few years ago but sort of fell of the 40k train back in 7th because things got so bonkers IMO.

But this year I have gotten back into 40k and now with 9th edition I'm having more fun than ever before with my Orks. Even though I prefer the models from the 90s compared to today I still play 9th edition but with models from 2nd edition. Sometimes this leads to some conversion work to get something from the 90s to look like something today, especially if it didn't exist back then.

With contrast being released last year and how quickly it goes for me to get basecoats and a battle-ready force on the table and how easy it now is to work with highlights on contrasts I feel my painting standard has upped a bit for this project.

So I thought I'd share the process here. So without further ado, here is what's been finished and highlighted so far:

Some Lootas:

A weirdboy

Big Mek with KFF along with a Runtherd

An army shot from a local 1000p tournament I attended recently

Very nice. Old school orks are the very best exercise in nostalgia. Looking forward to seeing more.

Thanks a bunch! There will be more coming!

Thank you! I agree, few armies are as 90s nostalgic as the Orks!

Haha, how did you even manage to paint them all differently? Painting them all the same makes it easier for me as I can do it all at the same time with ease. But hey, highlights aren't added to them yet so that might destroy me

I picked 4 colours from my Goff theme and each got 3 or 4 on different parts. I don’t think I got any twins out of the batch. I reckon I’ll do similar when I repaint the 2nd Ed Boyz too. Good luck with the highlights, mine just got a drybrush and a wash. They look pretty good all blobbed up. Grots up front, Protect the Ladz, Save lives!

I love 'em. I mean with such bright and delightfully garish colors, what's not to love?

A great orky triumph. What a delight to see these classics given a well deserved airing. My kind of orks, proper Space Orks.

My Ghazghkull finally got some work today. Just building it for now. But a new power claw (like the current version) and a new arm and of course a new ridiculously funny base size

(yes, he has apparently stolen Nazdregs claw....)

I love the look of old Orks, but I do think that you should probably make the ghazghkull a bit taller (maybe put him on a cliff or use stilts if your extra adventurous) so that he fits the new model a bit better, and I would assume that you already have a better plan than this by now, but all in all, love the models.

Not that Ghaz isn't exciting but those Bloodaxe Kommandos in the background... !

Why not get the new ghazzie model, and model it face down with a big tear out of his back, with old ghazzie stood triumphantly on top with a fistful of wires and cables?

Some of those old orks are really cool, nice paint jobs as well! I still have some old space marine models from that era so this is giving me some encouragement to paint them up!

They are well underway. I'm using two units in every list I've made, such awesome models in game and on the hobby table.

Finally got all these wonderful shoota boyz (or marauder space orks with bolters) and 3 "big shootas" (actually Gorkamorka shootas) and of course an armless Nob looking for his double killsaws. Now I need to locate 26 of 5 more marauder space orks with a bolter so I can build an army of 180 shoota boyz

But first...Painting!

Thanks for sharing! 2nd Edition was the edition I've enjoyed the most (various reasons) and your minis are very inspirational.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Your color selection and models are on point. I’m really digging the feel you are going for. This is all contrast paint you say?
