I had this idea a while ago, I wanted to post it here so you guys can tell me how to either make it better or why it won’t work. Let me know what you think.

I like it, it looks like a really good way to have movement trays which scale as the unit dies!

Don't know whether you could put an "L" shaped connector in so that the pieces could either be connected close together ("L"'s overlapping) or spread out (top of the "L"'s touching). Might not be feasible, though, or necessary to be fair.

How rigid is it when weighted down with miniatures? I was designing something similar as a modular board a while ago and a designer I consulted suggested that the kind of dovetail/puzzle-piece connectors didn't work particularly well and tended to break easily.

Suggestion would be a way to pick up a central-seven. That way you measure from your pickup point to the final spot. That said, my infantry *personally* try to stick to cover. I usually wouldn’t have use for a movement tray.
