Anybody have any insight into how successful this was? Obviously they have rolled it out to other countries and also introduced Mortal Realms.
Do you think there's any chance they might release another partworks in the near future? What armies do you think they might use? Marines and DG just seemed ideal due to the amount of easy build stuff they already had sprues for, I can't see any other armies that would be suitable.

Yes, I think they'll have to "build up" enough stuff they'll be able to bundle together for another run of mags before it's feasible, but I do think it was a success. It sold out comfortably, both from my huge local newsagent and on the online shop, as far as I could tell. I would suspect they might try to be a bit more cunning about spreading must-haves and not-arseds across issues if doing it again though - it's not common for partworks to be something you can buy 1 issue of and get value from it, but with Conquest, we all saw how one issue with something cool sold out several times over, and the next issue of poor old paints got left behind. I'd guess they might be a bit more tactical with scattering shared sprues across a few issues like they did with later issues.

But, I have to say, I'd be absolutely onboard for another one. I loved Conquest, I thought it was incredibly well planned and paced and even with the redundant beginner intro stuff I'd sign up for a new one again in a heartbeat.

I for one am jealous they never did a run in the US. I would have loved a cheaper, partitioned out way of building a Primaris Space Marine force and getting some terrain. As for the Death Guard models, there's plenty of people in my area who wouldn't say no to getting them super cheap from me.

Depending on how it went Marines vs Necrons would be the obvious follow up.

Would seem to make sense. Far more versatile too, I always felt Death Guard was a weird choice for the designated starter set OpFor this edition, because they're SO specific, if you're not into the rotting gribbly guts leaking everywhere schtick they have little to offer. Necrons are far easier for newbies to make look decent quickly and even if you're not wild about them, they don't have a love/hate gimmick as full on as DG.

DG got there because they were in starter set which was involved heavily in the patchwork. No DG, no patchwork.

So in same vain if new one comes within lifetime of 9th you can bet your house it will be marines vs necrons.

I get that, I just didn't quite understand GW's choice of DG as the default anti-Ultramarine force in the starter sets in the first place. I think their very specific look and feel is quite love it or hate it, rather than being a more "normal" Chaos Marine force newbies might use to get the general idea before specifying. I don't think they're an obvious introduction to Chaos factions. The only rationale I can really buy is that they're so visually opposed to the Ultramarines it's easy to play them against each other even before painting.

also launching a new army as part of a starter set seems a smart move if you want to instantly create a player base for that army.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two
