Ok we have some more necron units falling to the destroyer curse, now the new one is a deathmkark that fell victim to it and became the Hexmark.

So is it reasonable to assume a plasmancer is a cryptek that got the destroyer curse?

No I don’t think Plasmancers have the Destroyer virus. This is just a return to having shooty cypteks which were done away with in 7e I believe.

This^

its just going back to some old background for the crypteks as there used to be different 'disiplines' of teks, some delt in time control or plasma or mechinery etc (6 or 8 types i cant remember) and each type had different equipment and rules but they were all done away with a couple of codexes ago. It now seems that there coming back in some form.

Yup. When first introduced, they were closer to being Psyker equivalents.

Perhaps not in terms of raw power. Rather their discipline affected how they supported your army. Memory is iffy, but they were definitely cooler than “fancy cloak or fixy bits” they were replaced with.

I think the OP's original post was in response to the actual model's design (please correct me if I'm wrong!). Necrons maintain a reverence for their physical forms because it is the absolute last bit of their former lives that remains under their control. Manipulating the body, especially disfigurement of any substantial type, is (or at least was) seen as anathema. Hence, regular Necrons treated destroyers as pariahs. The plasmancer has a severely altered form, outright removing its lower half (looks as if it was going to be rebuilt and then just stopped). Clearly, the general GW rule of cool applied to the model, they rarely let their own fluff dictate design ideas.

Active armies, still collecting and painting First and greatest love - Orks, Orks, and more Orks largest pile of shame, so many tanks unassembled most complete and painted beautiful models, couldn't resist the swarm will consume all
Armies in disrepair: nothing new since 5th edition oh how I want to revive, but mostly old fantasy demons and some glorious Soul Grinders in need of love

Nope, because they aren't. Just a different super-science specialty.

The one in the Indomitus novel is a bit of a megalomaniac, but basically they've learned to manipulate energy directly by studying C'tan shards.

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

No, Plasmancers are just one of the names for the various Cryptek disciplines. In this case Harbingers of Destruction. This was introduced back when the 5E dex released.

Chronomancers are Harbingers of Eternity, Pyschomancers of Despair, etc etc.

A cryptek turning into a destroyer is a cool concept I'd like to see one day for sure, but a Plasmancer is just a cryptek type.

I miss the days dispersion field warriors zapping everyone.
When we brimmed and sparked with eldritch energies from a source barely comprehended.
I'm loving the Plasmancer, thinking of ways to run 3, one, obviously, with Lightening Field.

If all cryptek types get the rumored buff to Reanimation, it will be much easier to justify a Plasmancer.
