Hey all, just getting back into 40K. I am trying to organize the models I have before I get to painting. How does this list shake out:

Daemon Prince with Wings (2x Malefic Talons and Warp Bolter, Intoxicating Elixir)
Lucius the Eternal

20x Noise Marines (Doom Siren, Lightning Claw and Plasma Pistol, 19 Chainswords, Icon of Excess)
10x Noise Marines (10x Sonic Blasters)
10x Noise Marines (10x Sonic Blasters)
5x Noise Marines (Blastmaster)
5x Noise Marines (Blastmaster)
5x Noise Marines (Blastmaster)

10x Possessed
1x Greater Possessed

5x Raptors (LC, 2x plasmagun)

Interesting list. Based on your choices I'm thinking a Daemonkin approach might do you well. It will add a huge ability to advance and charge for your daemon units.

A small patrol with a herald or other Slaanesh HQ and a daemonette squad will do you well. You can pay for it by dropping the raptor and one of the blastmaster squad.

Not a bad idea. I am still sorting through my models, but as a devoted fan of Slaanesh... I may happen to have some daemonettes and seekers sitting around.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Daemon Prince with Wings (2x Malefic Talons and Warp Bolter, Intoxicating Elixir)
Lucius the Eternal

20x Noise Marines (Doom Siren, Lightning Claw and Plasma Pistol, 19 Chainswords, Icon of Excess)
10x Noise Marines (10x Sonic Blasters)

5x Noise Marines (Blastmaster)

10x Possessed
1x Greater Possessed

Herald of Slaanesh

15x Daemonettes (Daemonic Icon, Instrument of Chaos)

Quick question: Would the Locus of Slaanesh from the Herald stack with Locus of Power from the GP? If I am reading this correctly, it would be +2 to all daemons from the Emperors Children (possessed and defilers).

RAW no reason they don't stack.

Also, some wargear suggestions. The Rainment Repulsive relic may just be the best relic in the CSM range allowing the model to re-roll basically everything. I'd take that on your DP instead.

Lighting claws are about the worst choice. Either go cheap with a powersword or invest in a powerfist. The latter is my suggestion.

One other question, I saw hellforged contemptors on another list. Are these foreword? Where can I find rules on this?

Thanks

Yes they are Forgeworld and are in the now ancient imperial armor Index Forces of Chaos. I mention ancient as it's not for sale anymore as a new one is supposedly coming out in the next few months but who knows. You can also find the rules on the 40k App.

Also, if you haven't checked out the update in PA Faith and Fury be prepared to be surprised at the boost EC and all legions got. Some great new options and strategems.

A few slight changes based on comments above:

Demon Prince (Wings, Warp Bolter, Malefic Talons x2) - Intoxicating Elixir
Lucius The Eternal

20x Noise Marines (Doom Siren, Thunderhammer and plasma pistol, Icon of Excess, 19 CCW)
10x Noise Marines (9x sonic blasters, blastmaster, powersword)
10x Noise Marines (9x sonic blasters, blastmaster)
5x Noise Marines (blastmaster)
5x Noise Marines (blastmaster)

Greater Possessed
10x Possessed

Defiler

Herald of Slaanesh
13x Daemonettes

I still need to get the supplement for the rainment repulsive. So, I will switch out/add once I have that book. Otherwise, how does this look?

Somewhere in the bloody warp

Looks pretty solid for a EC list - this is what I'd run if I had a couple more defilers.

Lucius the Eternal is only ok as a force-multiplier for your gunline noise marines - instead I'd suggest maybe running him as a Dark Apostle, and give him the Remnant of Maraviglia (you have to pay 1CP for an extra relic but it's worth it - for one battle round every unit within 6" can re-roll wound rolls. For noise marines, this applies to all their shooting in your turn, and any close combat attacks they get to make. It also applies to their attacks made when they die as a result of Music of the Apocalypse!
When you're not blasting out the Maraviglia on a HH-era gramophone, you could give him the Benediction of Darkness prayer to give your large noise marine blob a bit more survivability.

What psychic powers are you planning on giving your daemon prince? Diabolic Strength will buff his own offensive output, but he's already a blender as is - might be worth looking into warptime to speed up your CC noise marines.

One final thought - you know noise marine squads in units of 10 can take 2 blastmasters? Food for thought...

Do you know what your sin is, Malcolm Reynolds?
Ah hell, I'm a fan of all seven.
But right now, I'm gonna have to go with wrath,

Interesting. Did you test it ? If yes, how do you find the Noise Marines who are equiped with Chainswords or boltgun instead of their sonic weapons ? I ask because I have 30 marines to assemble, but instead of giving them sonic blasters (either from GW or Kromlech), I'd rather wait for GW to release new Noise Marines models.

I ran a similar themed list like this at the end of 5th edition that worked pretty well. However, I am just returning to 40K in the past 2 weeks and local games are a little difficult with COVID right now. Interest inside my friend circle is picking up and a few of us are dusting off the models and learning the new rules. In that old list, I had 5 mad squads with blastmasters camping on the back edge in rhinos with havoc launchers. I then had one large sonic blaster blob midfield being supported by advancing defilers. Depending on the army I was facing defilers would either sit back with the rhinos and drop pie plates or advance and smash.

I only have 22 sonic blaster models and 8 blastmasters (4 assembled). Still tweaking the list to see what works best. I may drop the demon detachment and just buff up the squads I have and flush out the army with cultists.

While I like it on paper, quite a bit actually, I feel you have over invested in troops. If you have other models you would like to use I would suggest dropping a squad of 10 and a squad of 5. NM are as durable as chaos marines but more costly and without excruciating frequencies their damage output is actually lower vs meq than a chaos marine squad with 2 reapers and cbplas. So having a main target (20 man squad) and a backup for EC (10 man) both fully tooled is what I would suggest. And then a smaller backfield unit minimally equipped. OR a large one also minimal with 2 BMs and fist and no sonic blasters and use the other bodies as ablatives.. similar to the old havocs. Either way I second the suggestion for 2 BMs in 10 man squads.

For other suggestions, something that can impact from deep strike either by shooting, assault or both is good in EC. For examples I like to take my warp talons and terminators as EC due to honour the prince and excess of violence strats. A blender jump lord with rapacious talons has also been a staple for me although now the nerf to cmd reroll has me considering other options, just depends on how risky you like to be. On that note lucius is pretty bad. If you just wanna use the model I can respect that but otherwise I suggest a different hq.

Anyway just some friendly ideas.

Almost forgot, if you wanna brew with the latest rules I can recommend using http://wahapedia.ru/wh40k8ed/factions/chaos-space-marines/
While I wouldn't rely on it for solving certain rules debates the site has been accurate on its rules and you can find everything in one place including all the traits, strats, relics, etc etc. I use this when building from excel vs. battlescribe due to ease of referencing.

Fair enough. I pulled out all the old models. I am trying to organize them prior to stripping and painting them. Here is what I have left over from above (that I was going to paint as a Night Lords detachment). What would you change, if you don't mind?

3 Rhinos
2 Land Raiders
3 Vindicators
3 Predators
2 Heldrakes
25 Raptors
30-ish more CSM
10 Havocs (5 Reapers, 5 Missile Launchers)
50-ish cultists
10 terminators
Fabius Bile
Harken Worldclaimer (was going to modify to be a Jump Pack CL with Black Mace)
Sorcerors in PA
Sorceror in termie armor

Ohh goodies! Ya you have plenty to play with brother. So let me start by saying if you rolling massed NM because you like them then carry on I can always respect players who play what they like.

So from that list, and without getting greedy..
I would be looking to include the following to your current list:

2 rhinos
(3 possibly, list dependent but definitely 2. Mechanized infantry is really good now and it was decent in 8th so that saying something. A third would allow those possessed to get there more intact)

Sorcerer- either with JP or tda both can work
(instead of lucius although you could still roll lucius just for rerolls on plasma. So I'll backtrack and say if you do use him take some units to reroll with.. see below)

5-10 terminators
(Definitely take these as you are missing a real high str high ap bomb and backup target for endless cacophony. All cbplas dropping in from DS near to lucius or a JP/tda lord)

5 havocs- 4 reaper chaincannons.
(These can be slogging, mechanized, or strategic reserves, possibly along with a NM unit. So basically a pseudo NM unit that doesn't need EF to buff their guns)

I'll stop there. Although a heldrake would also fit nicely and draw heat from you other stuff.

How to fit these:
Unless your just sold on the daemons I would start by losing these.
And then trimming the NM into just what you need/want. So to me this would be similar to what I mentioned above.. a couple fully tooled units to benefit from excruciating frequencies and then a more budget unit to round out the troops slots.
Lastly when pts get tight consider the 3rd defiler. They were better then people thought in 8th honestly and now they're really solid. But without an area buff like a master of possession provides or daemonforge for one their shooting can be lackluster. So they're primarily assault. If it gets tight the third could sit the bench and you wouldn't regret it if it means including one of the units mentioned above.

Anyway thats what I got good luck.

LOL. Yes. I have plenty of goodies. On top of that, I have a Khorne detachment I don't want to repaint. So, another Land Raider, 3 Mauler Fiends, 40 berserkers, 10 CSM/Chosen, 3 more rhinos, Kharn the Betrayer, and 3 bloodthirsters, and a khorne demon prince.

Dig it. My csm collection is not nearly as large but its big enough I couldn't come close to using all the models I like. Just one reason I'm kinda pissed about the pts hikes.
On the flip side the increases to DP and discos actually caused me to shelf them for now which freed up pts for infantry so its not all bad. Its not that I really wanted to use those models anyway but if something is that efficient then I feel compelled to lol. Probably better this way.

10x CSM (2x Reaper Chaincannons)

Have you considered running a disco instead of the demon prince as you have 3 defilers, the +1 to hit would be really useful.
