Hi guys,
I have been away from the hobby for about two months now, and thus Psychic Awakening is has ended. So was it a big event as they advertised it or just a bunch of loosely connected stories with no real importance (there are interesting bits of lore for the setting though).
And which one is your preferred one and why ?
I just read the lore of War of the Spider, I'm not impressed tbh.
The one about the Tau, Imperials and genestealers cult and Pariah are my favorite. I like the emphasize on faith, a key element of the Imperium that is subtility shown in Pariah, better than in Faith and Fury I think.

Its hard not to view it as a missed opportunity that will be irrelevent in 6-12 months at every level.

Particularly egregious end of edition book series cashgrab. Made all the worse by the fact some of the rules will be sold to you again shortly while invalidating most of what you bought mere months ago.

The pa series was a very expensive load of nothing. I can see all the rules in the app and am spared the bad stories. The fact that they cost the same as a codex is aweful.

War if the spider was the only one I purchased cos I love Fabius biles character. The book is named after him, had a picture of him on the front but has only 3 pages of rules for him and his army.

The whole thing was a cash in on putting out new strays for armies that people wanted cos of a badly balanced game. the whole thing should have been done via white dwarf

Let's have a collective show of hands, just to get a rough idea (hardly a conclusive study, I know, but still).
Did you buy any Psychic Awakening books? If so, how many?

I'm happy to say it was zero for me, because I recognised them as a cash grab the moment they were announced.

They aren't worth it. Most of the good stories were actually posted on Warhammer community articles. The fluff in the books isn't great (not terrible either).

I would absolutely not buy any of them at this point and just get the app if you want the rules.

Same. I loathe campaign books for their transitory nature anyway, and it was clear by book one (when eldar got some weird backstory to justify more Ynnari and they basically just reprinted the old rules with none of the background changes) that they were making an exceptionally low effort this time around.

Functionally it hit 'end of edition blues' and 'we have to put out something while we're overhauling our miniatures factory.' And thus was spawned a completely pointless series of update books. Mostly updating the datasheets from the CSM vs SM boxed set over and over again, when the real solution is what's coming next month, and putting all the basic units in the same bloody book and not repeating that particularly atrocity on their customer base again.

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

I bought War of the Spider for my DG. For rules it's great, but the Fluff is really just an unimportant short story about Fabius Bile, and for that it's pretty expensive.

I refuse to buy books like these, maybe if they were chock-full-o lore I would have thought about it. But since they were thinly veiled "rules" crap & I do mean crap, there was ZERO chance.

I bougth Faith and Fury, War of the Spider, Pariah, and War of the Beast. Thoroughly enjoyed the lore bits, have played with a lot of the missions and rules and found them to be acceptable.

"Unimportant"

Trading a perfect clone of Fulgrim who still worships the Emperor and believes the EC can be brought back to the light to Trazyn for unaltered pure EC genestock.

The story potential here is unfathomable. We could see a loyalist and traitor Fulgrim, adding in huge story potential and creating a very unique and interesting dynamic, especially between the loyalist Fulgrim and Guilliman.

I agree with a few posts here.

While rules wise us tyranids came out quite well from Blood of Baal with a fair few fun options, the whole "we almost ate Baal then Papa Smurf and a BLOODTHIRSTER of all things showed up" ending was a massive letdown.

Not been impressed with the fluff at all.

Rules have varied from great (Grey Knights) to "why did you even bother?" (GSC).

Its hard to give them a fair judging because anything we could have done with them was much more difficult based on lockdown. I bought Ritual of the Damned. I was disappointed in the rules section. It was advertised as the DA opening up a little more to Primaris. It was VERY little more.

Status Quo will always be maintained. Some "worlds" have a 2++ Reroll all 1's until the end of time Plot Armor. The Big Four home worlds. Terra. Mars. Necromunda, Armageddon, The Eye, the Maelstrom, The Webway, the Deep Space Fringe where Nids live, etc. They went further with Cadia than any other in-game thing that I can think of in 40K.

I bought all but Blood of Baal and Saga of the Beast. Content is fine for my uses (mostly home based narrative), and some of the books will be used for awhile with the associated rules.
I would have preferred more campaign content, but what is in there is useable. Cost should have been 30 or under though.

I can see the Necron's pariah nexus thing being relevant further down the line as another galactic nuke option. The biggest thing to come out of the psychic awakening series is a null field, funnily enough. The fact that psychic powers have been becoming more and more common was already known, although the resistance to null powers is a new thing. Either the warp can overcome null fields by denying their existence or people are routing their psychic power through the emperor like some kind of VPN.

Vigilus will be talked about for longer than these, at least that is planet important to the Imperium as a whole, and they're far better-written books.

I've got Blood of Baal for my Nids but it was such a waste of paper I didn't bother to get the following books for GSC and AdMech.

I struggled to get through the few pages of the completely irrelevant forgettable lore where nothing happened.

Vigilus was on another level entirely, books worth even for the lore and story alone, but in the end, they only provided that kind of content to selected few factions and not to all, making it a failure.

As far as my factions go, I'm not even sure Phoenix Rising would be worth pirating, let alone actually buying.

And since the series began with a middle-finger to DE and Ynnari players, I can't say I was eager to bother with any of the others.

I got my PA less then a week before our store closed, so I didn't get to play with it in 8th. But the rules were a huge improvment and still are the main driving force behind GK being fun.

Lore wise it is strange. I full expect the DA dude and the GK captin to be dead, as they were left on the Magnus planet of magic. Draigo is tricky though. Normaly anyone should be dead too, but draigo soloed worse then primarchs before, and he did destroy demon planets on his own, and unless the rules for warp got changed he shouldn't even be teleported out, because the planet is a demon one and inside warp space .

Did they really recycle that story for War of the Spider? Because that happened a couple years back in Clonelord.
Which happens before Manflayer, which kicks off in M37. So, in universe, that happened 3000+ years ago.

That actually ties into Indomitus and, presumably, the current storyline.

In theory the eldar book and Pariah will have meaningful lore effects... sometime.

I bought Faith and Fury. The new Night Lords rules were impossible to resist. They finally gave the Eighth Legion back some personality. They were excellent, albeit unfortunately entirely done through strategems, warlord traits, and relics. The Night Lords story was also ok. This shows someone at gw actually gets Night Lords, I hope whoever wrote these rules was involved with the new csm codex.

Still sore about the price, though.

I picked up three of them. Blood of Baal was a gift for my son and his Flesh Tearers. The Ritual of the Damned was for my Dark Angels. For the Greater Good was for my Scions. The lore was, well, OK. For the Greater Good was, perhaps, the most interesting. The rules in all three were good, and to be honest that's why I bought the books. It was an upgrade - the story was tertiary. The post-LVO nerf hammer aimed at the Iron Hands hit the Dark Angels squarely after the book had been out for about a month. Oh well.

I think that the Scions in For the Greater Good were the gem of the bunch - they packed a lot into those pages!

i really hope the fluff we got in PA will be translated in the new csm codex. If it isnt then i dread the day where PAs will inevitably not be allowed in matched play anymore.

Faith and Fury, Engine War, and Blood of Baal, to get the Black Templar, CSM, Daemons, Chaos Knight, and Tyranid rules. And now that SW, DA, and DW are going to get rolled into the main codex I might have to look at War of the Beast and Ritual of the Damned.

I got the PR book... coz I wanted an accurate list of the traits+exarch powers for my CWE. The fancy ynnri relics were a nice bonus.

As much as the book sucked it did allow the CWE to do something that wasn't: Big blob of XX with Guide +doom+jinx.
Learned to be happy with scraps so its better than nothing.. But by no means amazing.

Yeah I think I can spot a consensus here...
I do have a question: blood of Baal is, if I'm correct, the cleaning and purging of the system after the victory on Baal. So we got two books (shields of Baal campaign) then the battle of Baal and finally that
How do you Blood Angels and tyranids feel about that ? Are you happy to see the events unfolding years after years or are you sick of having the same battle reenacted for 3-4 years ?
