I couldn’t find anything on the topic. Would anyone care to enlighten me?

See that stuff above? Completely true. All of it, every single word. Stands to reason.

'History' is a very broad word. What would you like to know?

For a second there, I expected the link to lead back to this thread as a joke. Was pleasantly surprised to be proven wrong!

All that comes to mind ever since I joined was the onslaught of kitchen/fake passport adbots that ran around the site for a few years. That and that one awful picture of an Ork cheerleader some posters loved to share.

Faithful... Enlightened... Ambitious... Brethren... WE NEED A NEW DRIVER! THIS ONE IS DEAD!

It's pretty cool that DrewRiggio found the article and responded. I remember seeing the article before but I don't remember seeing that part.

Do you remember a classic event from Dakka history, especially one that has been lost in the mists of time (hopefully with locally saved text or images), why not write about it here?

Chaplain Grabthar's OOP FW river that he definitely owned.
Also, Mauleed was a tactical genius, a master of strategy, some might say the greatest player to ever pick up a die.

A few users you don't hear from any more, does anyone know?
- Meangreenstompa - what happened to him?
- Casey's Law - as above
- Melissa (Malissa?) - taking on all comers in the off topic forum?
- Matty_RC - likewise?
Then in the 'hope they have left' column
- 'Testify'/'BryllCream' (went by other names? Had an avatar of I guy painted blue - but not like Avatar) - Could wreck a thread and get it closed with a skill not seen through the ages, and also had that ability to get a rise out of other posters who then got banned posting something in retaliation. I believe was banned but came back under other names(?)

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

After he left Dakka, he went across to Heresy Online. Unfortunately, I don't think he liked it there much. No idea where he is now.

Melissia. She literally posted 1 month ago. So did MeanGreenStompa.
Pretty sure most of those are OT heads that departed after the politics/religion ban.

Ah wow - I didn't realise that about MGS. I guess Dakka can be a pretty big place in-between all the sub forums so it can be like 'ships passing in the night' (or change a letter in that first word there).
I must say I don't post in the 40k forums much any more and that seems to have its own ecosystem.

Kroothawk - another name I haven't seen in a while

It was a great store, huge warehouse space with tons of terrain and tables. We only went up twice from NY but I loved it.

I don't see anything from Viktor von Domm (of League of Extraordinary Riveters fame) anymore, but his Plog was a major shaping influence in my hobby growing up. In fact, his acronym for my old Dakka username is why my current username is 'LooT' - I was practically named by the man.

I hope he's okay.

I'm glad my internet deep dive was so helpful to so many. Maybe that article should be stickied somewhere? We can't be the first people on the site curious about its history.

Dang, really makes me sad looking back at some of those old images of Dakka. Spent a good portion of my younger years there, and watched the decline of the store after the Wakelins left, and Juan was running it... and when it was bought and had the physical location name changed to Battlefield: Manchester until the final close.

Actually the whole rock star thing didn’t pan out but hey, gotta be in it to win it I guess! It was good craic while it lasted. I just play country and folk tunes for my friends and family on FB live these days.

How you doing bro?! Crazy to see your name on my screen after so many years.... remember the Dakka tournament at Warhammer world?! mattyrm actually works there now believe it or not.
